That whichאֲשֶׁרcameהָיָהas the wordדְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהto Jeremiahאֶל יִרְמְיָהוּthe prophetהַנָּבִיאconcerning the Philistines,אֶל פְּלִשְׁתִּיםbeforeבְּטֶרֶםPharaohפַרְעֹהstruckיַכֶּהGaza.עַזָּה
ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהLook,הִנֵּהwatersמַיִםare risingעֹלִיםfrom the northמִצָּפוֹןand will becomeוְהָיוּan overflowingשׁוֹטֵףtorrent;לְנַחַלand they will overflowוְיִשְׁטְפוּthe landאֶרֶץand all that fills it,וּמְלוֹאָהּthe cityעִירand those who dwellוְיֹשְׁבֵיin it;בָהּand the peopleהָאָדָםwill cry out,וְזָעֲקוּand everyכֹּלinhabitantיוֹשֵׁבof the landהָאָרֶץwill wail,וְהֵילִל
at the soundמִקּוֹלof the stampingשַׁעֲטַתof the hoofsפַּרְסוֹתof his stallions,אַבִּירָיוat the rattlingמֵרַעַשׁof his chariots,לְרִכְבּוֹthe rumblingהֲמוֹןof his wheels;גַּלְגִּלָּיוthe fathersאָבוֹתdo notלֹאturn backהִפְנוּto their childrenאֶל בָּנִיםfor the slacknessמֵרִפְיוֹןof their hands,יָדָיִם
because of the dayעַל הַיּוֹםthat is comingהַבָּאto devastateלִשְׁדוֹדallאֶת כָּלthe Philistines,פְּלִשְׁתִּיםto cut offלְהַכְרִיתfrom Tyreלְצֹרand from Sidonוּלְצִידוֹןeveryכֹּלsurvivorשָׂרִידwho helps;עֹזֵרforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהis devastatingשֹׁדֵדthe Philistines,אֶת פְּלִשְׁתִּיםthe remnantשְׁאֵרִיתof the islandאִיof Caphtor.כַפְתּוֹר
Baldnessקָרְחָהhas comeבָּאָהupon Gaza;אֶל עַזָּהAshkelonאַשְׁקְלוֹןhas been silenced,נִדְמְתָהthe remnantשְׁאֵרִיתof their valley.עִמְקָםHow longעַד מָתַיwill you gash yourself?תִּתְגּוֹדָדִי
Ah,הוֹיswordחֶרֶבof YHWH!לַיהוָהHow longעַד אָנָהwill you notלֹאbe quiet?תִשְׁקֹטִיWithdrawהֵאָסְפִיinto your sheath;אַל תַּעְרֵךְrestהֵרָגְעִיand be still!וָדֹמִּי
Howאֵיךְcan you be quiet,תִּשְׁקֹטִיwhen YHWHוַיהוָהhas given it orders?צִוָּה לָהּAgainst Ashkelonאֶל אַשְׁקְלוֹןand against the shoreוְאֶל חוֹףof the sea,הַיָּםthereשָׁםhe has appointed it.יְעָדָהּ
