Translation note

Numbers 18:19 calls a covenant of YHWH a “covenant of salt forever” (also 2 Chronicles 13:5). In Mark 9:49 the base text (SBLGNT) says “everyone will be salted with fire”; the words “and every sacrifice will be salted with salt” are a variant that is not in the base text.

The context

12As an offering of firstfruits you may present them to YHWH, but to the altar they shall not go up as a pleasing aroma.

13 · This verse (above)

14If you present a grain offering of first-ripe fruits to YHWH, you shall present as the grain offering of your first-ripe fruits fresh ears roasted in the fire, crushed new grain.
