Luke 9:7-9

7Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was happening, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead, 8and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the ancient prophets had risen. 9But Herod said, “John I beheaded; but who is this about whom I hear such things?” And he was seeking to see him.

Matthew 14:1-12

1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Jesus, 2and he said to his servants, “This is John the Immerser; he has been raised from the dead, and that is why the powers are at work in him.” 3For Herod, having seized John, bound him and put him away in prison because of Herodias, the wife of Philip his brother, 4for John had been saying to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” 5And though he wanted to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they held him to be a prophet. 6But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst and pleased Herod, 7so he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. 8And she, prompted by her mother, says, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Immerser.” 9And the king was grieved, but because of the oaths and those reclining at table with him he ordered it to be given. 10And he sent and beheaded John in the prison. 11And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12And his disciples came and took the corpse and buried him, and they went and reported it to Jesus.

Mark 6:14-29

14And King Herod heard of it, for his name had become known; and people were saying, “John the Immerser has been raised from the dead, and that is why these powers are at work in him.” 15But others were saying, “He is Elijah”; and others were saying, “A prophet, like one of the prophets.” 16But when Herod heard it, he was saying, “John, whom I beheaded, he has been raised.” 17For Herod himself had sent and seized John and bound him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of Philip his brother, because he had married her. 18For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19And Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to kill him, and she could not; 20for Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man, and he was protecting him. And when he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and he heard him gladly. 21And an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his nobles and the commanders and the leading men of Galilee. 22And when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those reclining with him. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.” 23And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.” 24And going out, she said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” And she said, “The head of John the Immerser.” 25And at once coming in with haste to the king, she asked, saying, “I want you to give me right now, on a platter, the head of John the Immerser.” 26And the king, although he became deeply grieved, because of his oaths and those reclining at table, did not want to refuse her. 27And at once the king sent an executioner and ordered him to bring his head. And he went and beheaded him in the prison 28and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. 29And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took away his body and laid it in a tomb.
