Matthew 5:1–7:29

5:1Now seeing the crowds, he went up onto the mountain; and when he had sat down, his disciples came to him. 5:2And opening his mouth, he was teaching them, saying, 5:3“Happy are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 5:4Happy are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5:5Happy are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 5:6Happy are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. 5:7Happy are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. 5:8Happy are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 5:9Happy are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 5:10Happy are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 5:11Happy are you when they insult you and persecute you and say every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. 5:12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. 5:13“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what will it be salted? It is good for nothing any longer except to be thrown out and trampled by people. 5:14You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. 5:15Nor do they light a lamp and put it under the basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 5:16In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. 5:17“Do not think that I came to abolish the law or the prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 5:18For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one iota or one stroke will ever pass from the law until all things take place. 5:19So whoever breaks one of these least commandments and teaches people to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, this one will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 5:20For I tell you that unless your righteousness far exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter into the kingdom of heaven. 5:21“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to the judgment.’ 5:22But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to the judgment; and whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca,’ will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘Fool,’ will be liable to fiery Gehenna. 5:23So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 5:24leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

Luke 6:17-49

17And coming down with them, he stood on a level place, and there was a large crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coast of Tyre and Sidon, 18who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled by unclean spirits were being healed. 19And all the crowd were trying to touch him, because power was coming out from him and healing all. 20And he, lifting up his eyes to his disciples, was saying, “Happy are the poor, because yours is the kingdom of God. 21Happy are those who are hungry now, because you will be satisfied. Happy are those who weep now, because you will laugh. 22Happy are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. 23Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for look, your reward is great in heaven; for their fathers used to do the same things to the prophets. 24But woe to you who are rich, because you have received your comfort. 25Woe to you who are full now, because you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, because you will mourn and weep. 26Woe to you when all people speak well of you, for their fathers used to do the same things to the false prophets. 27But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29To the one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from the one who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and from the one who takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. 31And just as you want people to do to you, do to them likewise. 32And if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same. 34And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners so that they may receive back the same amount. 35Rather, love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and evil. 36Be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. 37And do not judge, and you will never be judged; and do not condemn, and you will never be condemned; release, and you will be released. 38Give, and it will be given to you: a good measure, pressed down, shaken, running over, they will put into your lap; for with the measure with which you measure, it will be measured back to you.” 39And he also told them a parable: “A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40A disciple is not above the teacher; but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.

Matthew 7:1-5

1“Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. 2For with the judgment you judge you will be judged, and with the measure you measure with it will be measured to you. 3And why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the beam in your own eye? 4Or how will you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and look, the beam is in your own eye? 5Hypocrite, first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

Luke 6:37-42

37And do not judge, and you will never be judged; and do not condemn, and you will never be condemned; release, and you will be released. 38Give, and it will be given to you: a good measure, pressed down, shaken, running over, they will put into your lap; for with the measure with which you measure, it will be measured back to you.” 39And he also told them a parable: “A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40A disciple is not above the teacher; but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher. 41And why do you see the splinter that is in your brother’s eye, but the beam that is in your own eye you do not notice? 42How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the splinter that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the beam in your eye? Hypocrite, first take out the beam from your eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the splinter that is in your brother’s eye.
