It happenedוַיְהִיthat whenכַּאֲשֶׁרthe wallהַחוֹמָהhad been builtנִבְנְתָהand I had set upוָאַעֲמִידthe doors,הַדְּלָתוֹתthe gatekeepers,וַ הַשּׁוֹעֲרִיםthe singers,וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִיםand the Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּםwere appointed.יִּפָּקְדוּ
And I putוָאֲצַוֶּהHananiחֲנָנִיmy brother,אָחִיand Hananiahוְ חֲנַנְיָהthe leaderשַׂרof the fortress,הַבִּירָהin charge ofעַלJerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלִָםforכִּיheהוּאwaslikeכְּa manאִישׁof truthאֱמֶתand fearedוְיָרֵאElohimהָאֱלֹהִיםmore thanמֵmany.רַבִּים
And I saidוָאֹמַרto them,לָהֶם“The gatesשַׁעֲרֵיof Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםare not toלֹאbe openedיִפָּתְחוּuntilעַדthe sunהַשֶּׁמֶשׁis hot;חֹםand whileוְעַדtheyהֵםare standing,עֹמְדִיםlet them shutיָגִיפוּthe doorsהַדְּלָתוֹתand bar them;וֶאֱחֹזוּand appointוְהַעֲמֵידguardsמִשְׁמְרוֹתfrom the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵיof Jerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלִַםeachאִישׁat his guardבְּמִשְׁמָרוֹand eachוְאִישׁin front ofנֶגֶדhis house.”בֵּיתוֹ
Now the cityוְהָעִירwaswideרַחֲבַתin spaceיָדַיִםand large,וּגְדוֹלָהbut the peopleוְהָעָםwerefewמְעַטwithin it,בְּתוֹכָהּand there were noוְאֵיןhousesבָּתִּיםbuilt.בְּנוּיִם
Then my Elohimוַ אֱלֹהַיput itיִּתֵּןintoאֶלmy heart,לִבִּיand I gatheredוָאֶקְבְּצָהthe nobles,הַחֹרִיםthe officials,וְ הַסְּגָנִיםand the peopleוְ הָעָםto be registered by genealogy.לְהִתְיַחֵשׂAnd I foundוָאֶמְצָאthe bookסֵפֶרof the genealogyהַיַּחַשׂof those who came upהָעוֹלִיםat the first,בָּרִאשׁוֹנָהand I foundוָאֶמְצָאwrittenכָּתוּבin it:בּוֹ
Theseאֵלֶּהare the sonsבְּנֵיof the provinceהַמְּדִינָהwho came upהָעֹלִיםfrom the captivityמִשְּׁבִיof the exiles,הַגּוֹלָהwhomאֲשֶׁרNebuchadnezzarנְבוּכַדְנֶצַּרkingמֶלֶךְof Babylonבָּבֶלhad carried into exile,הֶגְלָהand they returnedוַיָּשׁוּבוּto Jerusalemלִירוּשָׁלִַםand Judah,וְלִיהוּדָהeachאִישׁto his city,לְעִירוֹ
who cameהַבָּאִיםwithעִםZerubbabel,זְרֻבָּבֶלJeshua,יֵשׁוּעַNehemiah,נְחֶמְיָהAzariah,עֲזַרְיָהRaamiah,רַעַמְיָהNahamani,נַחֲמָנִיMordecai,מָרְדֳּכַיBilshan,בִּלְשָׁןMispereth,מִסְפֶּרֶתBigvai,בִּגְוַיNehum,נְחוּםand Baanah.בַּעֲנָהThe numberמִסְפַּרof the menאַנְשֵׁיof the peopleעַםof Israel:יִשְׂרָאֵל

Andוַthe governorהַתִּרְשָׁתָאsaidיֹּאמֶרto themלָהֶםthatאֲשֶׁרthey should notלֹאeatיֹאכְלוּof the most holy thingsמִקֹּדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁיםuntilעַדthe priestהַכֹּהֵןstood upעֲמֹדfor Urimלְאוּרִיםand Thummim.וְתוּמִּים
The wholeכָּלassemblyהַקָּהָלtogetherכְּאֶחָדwasforty-two thousand three hundred sixty,אַרְבַּע רִבּוֹא אַלְפַּיִם שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת וְשִׁשִּׁים
besidesמִלְּבַדtheir male slavesעַבְדֵיהֶםand their female slaves,וְאַמְהֹתֵיהֶםthese wereאֵלֶּהseven thousand three hundred thirty-seven;שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת שְׁלֹשִׁים וְשִׁבְעָהand they hadוְלָהֶםtwo hundred forty-fiveמָאתַיִם וְאַרְבָּעִים וַחֲמִשָּׁהmale singersמְשֹׁרֲרִיםand female singers.וּמְשֹׁרֲרוֹת
Their horses, seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred forty-five;
camels,גְּמַלִּיםfour hundred thirty-five;אַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת שְׁלֹשִׁים וַחֲמִשָּׁהdonkeys,חֲמֹרִיםsix thousand seven hundred twenty.שֵׁשֶׁת אֲלָפִים שְׁבַע מֵאוֹת וְעֶשְׂרִים
And someוּמִקְצָתof the headsרָאשֵׁיof the fathers’ housesהָאָבוֹתgaveנָתְנוּfor the work.לַמְּלָאכָהThe governorהַתִּרְשָׁתָאgaveנָתַןto the treasuryלָאוֹצָרa thousandאֶלֶףdrachmasדַּרְכְּמֹנִיםof gold,זָהָבfiftyחֲמִשִּׁיםbowls,מִזְרָקוֹתfive hundred thirtyשְׁלֹשִׁים וַחֲמֵשׁ מֵאוֹתtunicsכָּתְנוֹתof priests.כֹּהֲנִים
And some of the headsוּמֵרָאשֵׁיof the fathers’ housesהָאָבוֹתgaveנָתְנוּto the treasuryלְאוֹצַרof the workהַמְּלָאכָהtwenty thousandשְׁתֵּי רִבּוֹתdrachmasדַּרְכְּמוֹנִיםof goldזָהָבandוְtwo thousand two hundredאַלְפַּיִם וּמָאתָיִםminasמָנִיםof silver.כֶסֶף
And whatוַאֲשֶׁרthe restשְׁאֵרִיתof the peopleהָעָםgaveנָתְנוּwastwenty thousandשְׁתֵּי רִבּוֹאdrachmasדַּרְכְּמוֹנִיםof gold,זָהָבandוְtwo thousandאַלְפָּיִםminasמָנִיםof silver,כֶסֶףandוְsixty-sevenשִׁשִּׁים וְשִׁבְעָהtunicsכָתְנֹתof priests.כֹּהֲנִים
Soוַthe priests,הַכֹּהֲנִיםthe Levites,וְהַלְוִיִּםthe gatekeepers,וְהַשּׁוֹעֲרִיםthe singers,וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִיםsomeוּמִןof the people,הָעָםthe Nethinim,וְהַנְּתִינִיםand allוְכָלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלlivedיֵּשְׁבוּin their cities.בְּעָרֵיהֶםAnd the seventh monthוַ הַחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִיcame,יִּגַּעand the sonsוּבְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwerein their cities.בְּעָרֵיהֶם
