The headsרָאשֵׁיof the fathers’ housesהָאָבוֹתof the familyלְמִשְׁפַּחַתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Gileadגִלְעָדsonבֶּןof Machir,מָכִירsonבֶּןof Manasseh,מְנַשֶּׁהof the familiesמִמִּשְׁפְּחֹתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Joseph,יוֹסֵףcame nearוַיִּקְרְבוּand spokeוַיְדַבְּרוּbeforeלִפְנֵיMosesמֹשֶׁהand beforeוְלִפְנֵיthe chiefs,הַנְּשִׂאִיםthe headsרָאשֵׁיof the fathers’ housesאָבוֹתof the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
They said,וַיֹּאמְרוּ“YHWHיְהוָהcommandedצִוָּהmy lordאֲדֹנִיto giveלָתֵתthe landהָאָרֶץas an inheritanceבְּנַחֲלָהby lotבְּגוֹרָלto the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלand my lordוַאדֹנִיwas commandedצֻוָּהby YHWHבַיהוָהto giveלָתֵתthe inheritanceנַחֲלַתof Zelophehadצְלָפְחָדour brotherאָחִינוּto his daughters.לִבְנֹתָיו
But if they becomeוְהָיוּwivesלְנָשִׁיםto oneלְאֶחָדof the sonsמִבְּנֵיof the tribesשִׁבְטֵיof the sonsבְנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלthenוְtheir inheritanceנַחֲלָתָןwill be taken awayנִגְרְעָהfrom the inheritanceמִנַּחֲלַתof our fathersאֲבֹתֵינוּand addedוְנוֹסַףtoעַלthe inheritanceנַחֲלַתof the tribeהַמַּטֶּהto whichאֲשֶׁרthey belong;תִּהְיֶינָה לָהֶםso it will be taken awayוּ יִגָּרֵעַfrom the lotמִגֹּרַלof our inheritance.נַחֲלָתֵנוּ
And whenוְאִםthe jubileeהַיֹּבֵלof the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלcomes,יִהְיֶהtheir inheritanceנַחֲלָתָןwill be addedוְנוֹסְפָהtoעַלthe inheritanceנַחֲלַתof the tribeהַמַּטֶּהto whichאֲשֶׁרthey belong;תִּהְיֶינָה לָהֶםand from the inheritanceוּמִנַּחֲלַתof the tribeמַטֵּהof our fathersאֲבֹתֵינוּtheir inheritanceנַחֲלָתָןwill be taken away.”יִגָּרַע
Mosesמֹשֶׁהcommandedוַיְצַוthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלat the commandעַל פִּיof YHWH,יְהוָהsaying,לֵאמֹר“The tribeמַטֵּהof the sonsבְנֵיof Josephיוֹסֵףis speakingדֹּבְרִיםrightly.כֵּן
This isזֶהthe thingהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhas commandedצִוָּהconcerning the daughtersלִבְנוֹתof Zelophehad,צְלָפְחָדsaying:לֵאמֹרLet them becomeתִּהְיֶינָהthe wivesלְנָשִׁיםof whoeverלַis goodטּוֹבin their eyes;בְּעֵינֵיהֶםonlyאַךְwithin the familyלְמִשְׁפַּחַתof the tribeמַטֵּהof their fatherאֲבִיהֶםshall they becomeתִּהְיֶינָהwives.לְנָשִׁים
So the inheritanceוְ נַחֲלָהof the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלshall notלֹאpassתִסֹּבfrom tribeמִמַּטֶּהto tribe,אֶל מַטֶּהforכִּיthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלshall hold fast,יִדְבְּקוּeachאִישׁto the inheritanceבְּנַחֲלַתof the tribeמַטֵּהof his fathers.אֲבֹתָיו
And everyוְכָלdaughterבַּתwho possessesיֹרֶשֶׁתan inheritanceנַחֲלָהfrom the tribesמִמַּטּוֹתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלshall becomeתִּהְיֶהwifeלְאִשָּׁהto oneלְאֶחָדof the familyמִמִּשְׁפַּחַתof the tribeמַטֵּהof her father,אָבִיהָso thatלְמַעַןthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלmay possess,יִירְשׁוּeach,אִישׁthe inheritanceנַחֲלַתof his fathers.אֲבֹתָיו
So the inheritanceוְ נַחֲלָהshall notלֹאpassתִסֹּבfrom tribeמִמַּטֶּהto anotherאַחֵרtribe,לְמַטֶּהforכִּיthe tribesמַטּוֹתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלshall hold fast,יִדְבְּקוּeachאִישׁto his own inheritance.”בְּנַחֲלָתוֹ
AsכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad commandedצִוָּהMoses,מֹשֶׁהsoכֵּןdidעָשׂוּthe daughtersבְּנוֹתof Zelophehad.צְלָפְחָד
Mahlah,מַחְלָהTirzah,תִרְצָהHoglah,וְחָגְלָהMilcah,וּמִלְכָּהand Noah,וְנֹעָהthe daughtersבְּנוֹתof Zelophehad,צְלָפְחָדbecameוַתִּהְיֶינָהwivesלְנָשִׁיםto the sonsלִבְנֵיof their uncles.דֹדֵיהֶן
Withinמִthe familiesמִּשְׁפְּחֹתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהsonבֶןof Josephיוֹסֵףthey becameהָיוּwives,לְנָשִׁיםand their inheritanceוַ נַחֲלָתָןremainedתְּהִיinעַלthe tribeמַטֵּהof the familyמִשְׁפַּחַתof their father.אֲבִיהֶן
These areאֵלֶּהthe commandmentsהַמִּצְוֺתand the rulesוְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִיםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהcommandedצִוָּהthroughבְּיַדMosesמֹשֶׁהtoאֶלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלin the plainsבְּעַרְבֹתof Moabמוֹאָבbyעַלthe Jordanיַרְדֵּןopposite Jericho.יְרֵחוֹ
