John 15:9–11
Jesus says he speaks so that his joy may be in them and be complete
Study it word by word9As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; remain in my love.
10If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.
11I have spoken these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be complete.
In its context
7If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
8By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.
…
12This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
13No one has greater love than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
