Luke 10:25–37
Jesus tells of the Samaritan to answer who my neighbor is
Study it word by word25And look, a certain expert in the law stood up to test him, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26And he said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”
27And he answered and said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
28And he said to him, “You answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”
29But he, wanting to declare himself righteous, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30And Jesus replied and said, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among bandits, who also stripped him and laid blows on him and went away, leaving him half dead.
31Now by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32And likewise a Levite also, coming to the place and seeing him, passed by on the other side.
33But a certain Samaritan, traveling, came to him; and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion.
34And he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and putting him on his own animal, he brought him to an inn and took care of him.
35And on the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’
36Which of these three seems to you to have become a neighbor to the one who fell among the bandits?”
37And he said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” And Jesus said to him, “Go, and you do likewise.”
In its context
23And turning to the disciples, he said privately, “Happy are the eyes that see what you see.
24For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”
…
38Now as they were traveling, he entered into a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed him.
39And she had a sister called Mary, who also, sitting at the feet of Jesus, was listening to his word.
