Matthew 20:9–16
Those hired last are paid the same as the first; the owner does as he wishes with what is his
Study it word by word9And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, they received a denarius each.
10And when the first came, they thought that they would receive more; and they also received the denarius each.
11And when they received it, they were grumbling against the master of the house,
12saying, ‘These last ones worked one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’
13But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am not wronging you. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?
14Take what is yours and go. But I want to give to this last one as I gave also to you.
15Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what is mine? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’
16So the last will be first, and the first last.”
