Psalms 23:1–6
YHWH as shepherd: pastures, waters of rest, and his presence in the dark valley
Study it word by word1A psalm of David. YHWH is my shepherd; I will lack nothing.
2In pastures of grass he makes me lie down; beside waters of rest he leads me.
3He brings back my soul; he guides me along tracks of righteousness for the sake of his name.
4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not fear evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5You lay out before me a table in front of my adversaries; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6Only good and loyal love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will return to the house of YHWH for length of days.

Out of reverence Jews stopped pronouncing it and read "Adonai" (Lord), so many Bibles put "the LORD" or "Jehovah". This translation keeps the four letters. The name is related to the verb "to be" (Exodus 3:14-15). He is not a god other than Elohim: "YHWH Elohim" is the same Creator God, called by his name.
