Key verses

Who wrote it

About seventy-three psalms carry David’s name in their title; others name Asaph, the sons of Korah, Solomon, Heman, Ethan or Moses (Psalm 90). Others name no one.

When it was written

Roughly from around 1000 BC, in David’s time, to after the exile in Babylon (Psalm 137), in the 6th century BC or later.

For whom, and in what situation

For the people of Israel, who sang them in the temple worship and also prayed them alone: in joy, distress, guilt and exile. They are gathered into five books.
