Nahum
Old Testament · translated from the Hebrew
An announcement of the fall of Nineveh, capital of Assyria, which had oppressed many peoples. YHWH is slow to anger, but will by no means leave the guilty unpunished; and he knows those who take refuge in him.
How it is laid out
Key verses
Who wrote it
The vision of Nahum the Elkoshite (1:1). The book gives no more details about him.

Roughly between 663 BC, when No-amon (Thebes) fell, which the book treats as past (3:8-10), and 612 BC, when Nineveh fell.
For whom, and in what situation
For Judah, which had suffered under Assyria. It announces that the perverse one “will not again pass through” her and invites her to celebrate her festivals and fulfill her vows (1:15).
