  • Where there is no direction a people falls; many advisers bring safety

Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but there is salvation in an abundance of counselors.

  • Listen to advice, and remember YHWH's plan is the one that stands

Listen to counsel and receive correction, so that you may become wise in your end. Many are the plans in the heart of a man, but the counsel of YHWH, it will stand.

  • Moses' father-in-law warns he will wear himself out and advises sharing the load

Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you are doing is not good. You will surely wear yourself out, both you and this people that is with you; for the task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone. Now listen to my voice; I will advise you, and may Elohim be with you! You be the representative for the people before Elohim, and you bring the cases to Elohim. Teach them the statutes and the instructions, and make known to them the way in which they must walk, and the work that they must do. And you shall look for, from all the people, capable men, who fear Elohim, men of truth, who hate unjust gain; and place them over them as chiefs of thousands, chiefs of hundreds, chiefs of fifties, and chiefs of tens. Let them judge the people at all times; and every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge themselves; so make it lighter for yourself, and they will bear the load with you. If you do this thing and Elohim so commands you, you will be able to endure, and also all this people will go to their place in peace.” Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said.

    Exodus 18:17–24
  • Rehoboam asks the elders for advice but prefers that of the young men

King Rehoboam sought counsel from the elders who had stood before Solomon his father while he was alive, saying, “How do you counsel me to answer this people?” They spoke to him, saying, “If today you are a servant to this people and serve them and answer them and speak good words to them, they will be your servants all the days.” But he abandoned the counsel of the elders that they had counseled him, and sought counsel from the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

    1 Kings 12:6–8
  • Happy is the one who follows YHWH's instruction, not the counsel of the wicked

Happy is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but in the instruction of YHWH is his delight, and on his instruction he meditates by day and night. He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, that gives its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and all that he does prospers.

    Psalms 1:1–3
  • Israel's men accept the Gibeonites' provisions without asking YHWH
