Forγὰρthe marriedὕπανδροςwomanἡ γυνὴis boundδέδεταιby lawνόμῳto her livingτῷ ζῶντιhusband;ἀνδρὶbutδὲifἐὰνthe husbandὁ ἀνήρdies,ἀποθάνῃshe is releasedκατήργηταιfromἀπὸthe lawτοῦ νόμουof the husband.τοῦ ἀνδρός
Soἄραthen,οὖνwhile the husbandτοῦ ἀνδρὸςis living,ζῶντοςshe will be calledχρηματίσειan adulteressμοιχαλὶςifἐὰνshe becomesγένηταιthe wifeof anotherἑτέρῳman;ἀνδρὶbutδὲifἐὰνthe husbandὁ ἀνήρdies,ἀποθάνῃshe isἐστὶνfreeἐλευθέραfromἀπὸthe law,τοῦ νόμουso thatτοῦsheαὐτὴνis notμὴ εἶναιan adulteressμοιχαλίδαif she becomes the wifeγενομένηνof anotherἑτέρῳman.ἀνδρὶ
So,Ὥστεmy brothers,ἀδελφοί μουyouὑμεῖςalsoκαὶwere put to deathἐθανατώθητεto the lawτῷ νόμῳthroughδιὰthe bodyτοῦ σώματοςof the Messiah,τοῦ Χριστοῦso thatεἰς τὸyouὑμᾶςmight belongγενέσθαιto another,ἑτέρῳto the one whoτῷwas raisedἐγερθέντιfromἐκthe dead,νεκρῶνin order thatἵναwe might bear fruitκαρποφορήσωμενfor God.τῷ θεῷ
Forγὰρwhenὅτεwe wereἦμενinἐνthe flesh,τῇ σαρκίthe passionsτὰ παθήματαof sins,τῶν ἁμαρτιῶνwhich wereτὰthroughδιὰthe law,τοῦ νόμουwere at workἐνηργεῖτοinἐνour membersτοῖς μέλεσιν ἡμῶνtoεἰς τὸbear fruitκαρποφορῆσαιfor death.τῷ θανάτῳ
Butδὲnowνυνὶwe have been releasedκατηργήθημενfromἀπὸthe law,τοῦ νόμουhaving diedἀποθανόντεςto thatinἐνwhichᾧwe were held,κατειχόμεθαso thatὥστεweἡμᾶςserve as slavesδουλεύεινinἐνnewnessκαινότητιof the Spiritπνεύματοςandκαὶnotοὐin the oldnessπαλαιότητιof the letter.γράμματος
WhatΤίthenοὖνshall we say?ἐροῦμενThatthe lawὁ νόμοςissin?ἁμαρτίαBy no means!μὴ γένοιτοOn the contrary,ἀλλὰI did notοὐκknowἔγνωνsinτὴν ἁμαρτίανexceptεἰ μὴthroughδιὰthe law;νόμουforτε γὰρI would not have knownοὐκ ᾔδεινcovetingτήν ἐπιθυμίανifεἰthe lawὁ νόμοςhad notμὴsaid,ἔλεγενYou shall notΟὐκcovet.ἐπιθυμήσεις
Butδὲsin,ἡ ἁμαρτίαtakingλαβοῦσαopportunityἀφορμὴνthroughδιὰthe commandment,τῆς ἐντολῆςproducedκατειργάσατοinἐνmeἐμοὶevery kind ofπᾶσανcoveting;ἐπιθυμίανforγὰρapart fromχωρὶςthe lawνόμουsinἁμαρτίαisdead.νεκρά
AndδὲIἐγὼwas onceποτέaliveἔζωνapart fromχωρὶςthe law;νόμουbutδὲwhen the commandmentτῆς ἐντολῆςcame,ἐλθούσηςsinἡ ἁμαρτίαcame to life again,ἀνέζησεν
andδὲIἐγὼdied,ἀπέθανονandκαὶthe commandmentἡ ἐντολὴthat wasἡforεἰςlife,ζωὴνthisαὕτηwas foundεὑρέθηfor meμοιto beforεἰςdeath;θάνατον
forγὰρsin,ἡ ἁμαρτίαtakingλαβοῦσαopportunityἀφορμὴνthroughδιὰthe commandment,τῆς ἐντολῆςdeceivedἐξηπάτησένmeμεandκαὶthroughδι’itαὐτῆςkilled me.ἀπέκτεινεν
Soὥστεthe lawὁ νόμοςisholy,ἅγιοςandκαὶthe commandmentἡ ἐντολὴisholyἁγίαandκαὶrighteousδικαίαandκαὶgood.ἀγαθή
Thenοὖνdid what is goodΤὸ ἀγαθὸνbecomeἐγένετοdeathθάνατοςto me?ἐμοὶBy no means!μὴ γένοιτοButἀλλὰsinἡ ἁμαρτίαdid,so thatἵναit might be shown to beφανῇsin,ἁμαρτίαproducingκατεργαζομένηdeathθάνατονin meμοιthroughδιὰwhat is good,τοῦ ἀγαθοῦso thatἵναsinἡ ἁμαρτίαmight becomeγένηταιsinfulἁμαρτωλὸςbeyond measureκαθ’ ὑπερβολὴνthroughδιὰthe commandment.τῆς ἐντολῆς
Forγὰρwe knowΟἴδαμενthatὅτιthe lawὁ νόμοςisἐστινspiritual,πνευματικόςbutδὲIἐγὼamεἰμιof flesh,σάρκινόςsoldπεπραμένοςunderὑπὸsin.τὴν ἁμαρτίαν
ForγὰρwhatὃI doκατεργάζομαιI do notοὐunderstand;γινώσκωforγὰρwhatὃI want,θέλωthisτοῦτοI do notοὐpractice,πράσσωbutἀλλ’whatὃI hate,μισῶthisτοῦτοI do.ποιῶ
ButδὲifεἰwhatὃI do notοὐwant,θέλωthisτοῦτοI do,ποιῶI agreeσύμφημιwith the lawτῷ νόμῳthatὅτιit isgood.καλός
Butδὲnowνυνὶit is no longerοὐκέτιIἐγὼwho doκατεργάζομαιit,αὐτὸbutἀλλὰthe sinἡ ἁμαρτίαthat dwellsοἰκοῦσαinἐνme.ἐμοὶ
ForγὰρI knowοἶδαthatὅτιnothing goodοὐκ ἀγαθόνdwellsοἰκεῖinἐνme,ἐμοίthatτοῦτ’is,ἔστινinἐνmy flesh;τῇ σαρκί μουforγὰρthe wantingτὸ θέλεινis presentπαράκειταίwith me,μοιbutδὲthe doingτὸ κατεργάζεσθαιof the goodτὸ καλὸνis not.οὔ
ForγὰρI do notοὐdoποιῶthe goodἀγαθόνthatὃI want,θέλωbutἀλλὰthe evilκακὸνthatὃI do notοὐwant,θέλωthisτοῦτοI practice.πράσσω
ButδὲifεἰwhatὃI do notοὐwant,θέλωthisτοῦτοI do,ποιῶit is no longerοὐκέτιIἐγὼwho doκατεργάζομαιit,αὐτὸbutἀλλὰthe sinἡ ἁμαρτίαthat dwellsοἰκοῦσαinἐνme.ἐμοὶ
SoἄραI findΕὑρίσκωthisτὸνlaw:νόμονthat,ὅτιwhen I wantτῷ θέλοντι ἐμοὶto doποιεῖνthe good,τὸ καλὸνevilτὸ κακὸνis presentπαράκειταιwith me.ἐμοὶ
ForγὰρI delight inσυνήδομαιthe lawτῷ νόμῳof Godτοῦ θεοῦaccording toκατὰthe innerτὸν ἔσωman,ἄνθρωπον
butδὲI seeβλέπωanotherἕτερονlawνόμονinἐνmy membersτοῖς μέλεσίν μουwaging war againstἀντιστρατευόμενονthe lawτῷ νόμῳof my mindτοῦ νοός μουandκαὶtaking me captiveαἰχμαλωτίζοντά μεtoἐνthe lawτῷ νόμῳof sinτῆς ἁμαρτίαςthatτῷisὄντιinἐνmy members.τοῖς μέλεσίν μου
WretchedταλαίπωροςmanἄνθρωποςthatI am.ἐγὼWhoτίςwill rescueῥύσεταιmeμεfromἐκthisτούτουbodyτοῦ σώματοςof death?τοῦ θανάτου
