And it happened,וַיְהִיwhenכַּאֲשֶׁרDavidדָּוִידlivedיָשַׁבin his house,בְּבֵיתוֹthat Davidוַ דָּוִידsaidיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלNathanנָתָןthe prophet,הַנָּבִיא“Look,הִנֵּהIאָנֹכִיliveיוֹשֵׁבin the houseבְּבֵיתof cedars,הָאֲרָזִיםbut the arkוַאֲרוֹןof the covenantבְּרִיתof YHWHיְהוָהis underתַּחַתcurtains.”יְרִיעוֹת
NathanנָתָןsaidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלDavid,דָּוִיד“Allכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרisin your heart,בִּלְבָבְךָdo it,עֲשֵׂהforכִּיElohimהָאֱלֹהִיםiswith you.”עִמָּךְ
And it happenedוַיְהִיthat nightבַּלַּיְלָה הַהוּאthatוַthe wordדְּבַרof ElohimאֱלֹהִיםcameיְהִיtoאֶלNathan,נָתָןsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Goלֵךְand sayוְאָמַרְתָּtoאֶלDavidדָּוִידmy servant,עַבְדִּי‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהIt is notלֹאyouאַתָּהwho will buildתִּבְנֶהmeלִּיthe houseהַבַּיִתto live in.לָשָׁבֶת
ForכִּיI have notלֹאlivedיָשַׁבְתִּיin a houseבְּבַיִתfromמִןthe dayהַיּוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרI brought upהֶעֱלֵיתִיIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלtoעַדthisהַזֶּהday,הַיּוֹםbut I have beenוָאֶהְיֶהfrom tentמֵאֹהֶלtoאֶלtentאֹהֶלand from dwelling to dwelling.וּמִמִּשְׁכָּן
Whereverבְּכֹל אֲשֶׁרI have moved aboutהִתְהַלַּכְתִּיamong allבְּכָלIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלdid I speakהֲ דִּבַּרְתִּיa wordדָבָרwithאֶתoneאַחַדof the judgesשֹׁפְטֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלwhomאֲשֶׁרI commandedצִוִּיתִיto shepherdלִרְעוֹתmy people,עַמִּיsaying,לֵאמֹר“Whyלָמָּהhave you notלֹאbuiltבְנִיתֶםmeלִיa houseבֵּיתof cedars?”’אֲרָזִים
And now,וְעַתָּהthusכֹּהyou shall sayתֹאמַרto my servant,לְעַבְדִּיto David,לְדָוִיד‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot:צְבָאוֹתIאֲנִיtook youלְקַחְתִּיךָfromמִןthe pasture,הַנָּוֶהfrom followingמִן אַחֲרֵיthe flock,הַצֹּאןto beלִהְיוֹתleaderנָגִידoverעַלmy peopleעַמִּיIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵל
And I have beenוָאֶהְיֶהwith youעִמְּךָwhereverבְּכֹל אֲשֶׁרyou went,הָלַכְתָּand I have cut offוָאַכְרִיתallכָּלyour enemiesאוֹיְבֶיךָfrom before you;מִפָּנֶיךָand I will makeוְעָשִׂיתִיfor youלְךָa nameשֵׁםlike the nameכְּשֵׁםof the great onesהַגְּדוֹלִיםwhoאֲשֶׁרareon the earth.בָּאָרֶץ
And I will appointוְשַׂמְתִּיa placeמָקוֹםfor my peopleלְעַמִּיIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלand I will plant them,וּנְטַעְתִּיהוּand they will dwellוְשָׁכַןin their own placeתַּחְתָּיוand will trembleיִרְגַּזnoוְלֹאmore;עוֹדand unjust menבְנֵי עַוְלָהwill notוְלֹאagainיוֹסִיפוּconsume themלְבַלֹּתוֹasכַּאֲשֶׁרat the beginning,בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה
and from the daysוּלְמִיָּמִיםthatאֲשֶׁרI commandedצִוִּיתִיjudgesשֹׁפְטִיםto be overעַלmy peopleעַמִּיIsrael;יִשְׂרָאֵלand I will subdueוְהִכְנַעְתִּיallכָּלyour enemies.אוֹיְבֶיךָAnd I declareוָאַגִּדto youלָךְthatוּYHWHיְהוָהwill buildיִבְנֶהa houseבַיִתfor you.לְּךָ
And it will be,וְהָיָהwhenכִּיyour daysיָמֶיךָare fulfilledמָלְאוּto goלָלֶכֶתwithעִםyour fathers,אֲבֹתֶיךָthat I will raise upוַהֲקִימוֹתִיyour offspringזַרְעֲךָafter you,אַחֲרֶיךָone whoאֲשֶׁרwill beיִהְיֶהof your sons,מִבָּנֶיךָand I will establishוַהֲכִינוֹתִיhis kingdom.מַלְכוּתוֹ
Heהוּאwill buildיִבְנֶהa houseבָּיִתfor me,לִּיand I will make firmוְכֹנַנְתִּיhis throneכִּסְאוֹforever.עַד עוֹלָם
Iאֲנִיwill beאֶהְיֶהto himלּוֹa father,לְאָבand heוְהוּאwill beיִהְיֶהto meלִּיa son;לְבֵןand my loyal loveוְחַסְדִּיI will notלֹאtake awayאָסִירfrom him,מֵעִמּוֹasכַּאֲשֶׁרI took it awayהֲסִירוֹתִיfrom him whoמֵאֲשֶׁרwasהָיָהbefore you.לְפָנֶיךָ
And I will set himוְהַעֲמַדְתִּיהוּin my houseבְּבֵיתִיand in my kingdomוּבְמַלְכוּתִיforever,עַד הָעוֹלָםand his throneוְכִסְאוֹwill beיִהְיֶהestablishedנָכוֹןforever.’”עַד עוֹלָם
In accordance with allכְּכֹלtheseהָאֵלֶּהwordsהַדְּבָרִיםand in accordance with allוּכְכֹלthisהַזֶּהvision,הֶחָזוֹןsoכֵּןNathanנָתָןspokeדִּבֶּרtoאֶלDavid.דָּוִיד
Then Kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְDavidדָּוִידwent inיָּבֹאand satוַיֵּשֶׁבbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Whoמִיam I,אֲנִיYHWHיְהוָהElohim,אֱלֹהִיםand whoוּמִיismy house,בֵיתִיthatכִּיyou have brought meהֲבִיאֹתַנִיthis far?עַד הֲלֹם
And thisוַ זֹאתwas smallתִּקְטַןin your eyes,בְּעֵינֶיךָElohim;אֱלֹהִיםand you have spokenוַתְּדַבֵּרofעַלthe houseבֵּיתof your servantעַבְדְּךָfor a long time to come;לְמֵרָחוֹקand you have regarded meוּרְאִיתַנִיaccording to the rankכְּתוֹרof a manהָאָדָםof high degree,הַמַּעֲלָהYHWHיְהוָהElohim.אֱלֹהִים
Whatמַהmoreעוֹדcan Davidדָּוִידaddיּוֹסִיףto youאֵלֶיךָfor the honorלְכָבוֹדof your servant?עַבְדֶּךָYouוְאַתָּהknowיָדָעְתָּyour servant.עַבְדְּךָ
YHWH,יְהוָהfor the sake ofבַּעֲבוּרyour servantעַבְדְּךָand according toוּכְyour heartלִבְּךָyou have doneעָשִׂיתָallכָּלthisהַזֹּאתgreatness,הַגְּדוּלָּהto make knownלְהֹדִיעַallכָּלthe great things.הַגְּדֻלּוֹת
YHWH,יְהוָהthere is noneאֵיןlike you,כָּמוֹךָand there is noוְאֵיןElohimאֱלֹהִיםbesides you,זוּלָתֶךָaccording to allבְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרwe have heardשָׁמַעְנוּwith our ears.בְּאָזְנֵינוּ
And whoוּמִיislike your peopleכְּעַמְּךָIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלoneאֶחָדnationגּוֹיon the earth,בָּאָרֶץwhomאֲשֶׁרElohimהָאֱלֹהִיםwentהָלַךְto rescueלִפְדּוֹתfor himselfלוֹas a people,עָםto makeלָשׂוּםfor yourselfלְךָa nameשֵׁםof great thingsגְּדֻלּוֹתand awesome things,וְנֹרָאוֹתby driving outלְגָרֵשׁnationsגּוֹיִםfrom beforeמִפְּנֵיyour peopleעַמְּךָwhomאֲשֶׁרyou rescuedפָּדִיתָfrom Egypt?מִמִּצְרַיִם
You madeוַתִּתֵּןyour peopleעַמְּךָIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלto be yourלְךָpeopleלְעָםforever;עַד עוֹלָםand you,וְאַתָּהYHWH,יְהוָהhave becomeהָיִיתָtheirלָהֶםElohim.לֵאלֹהִים
And now,וְעַתָּהYHWH,יְהוָהthe wordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרyou have spokenדִּבַּרְתָּconcerningעַלyour servantעַבְדְּךָand concerningוְעַלhis house,בֵּיתוֹlet it stand firmיֵאָמֵןforever,עַד עוֹלָםand doוַעֲשֵׂהasכַּאֲשֶׁרyou have spoken.דִּבַּרְתָּ
Let it stand firm,וְיֵאָמֵןand let your nameוְ שִׁמְךָbe greatיִגְדַּלforever,עַד עוֹלָםso that it is said,לֵאמֹר‘YHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלis Elohimאֱלֹהִיםfor Israel’;לְיִשְׂרָאֵלand may the houseוּבֵיתof Davidדָּוִידyour servantעַבְדְּךָbe establishedנָכוֹןbefore you.לְפָנֶיךָ
Forכִּיyou,אַתָּהmy Elohim,אֱלֹהַיhave made it knownגָּלִיתָ אֹזֶןto your servantעַבְדְּךָthat you will buildלִבְנוֹתhimלוֹa house;בָּיִתthereforeעַל כֵּןyour servantעַבְדְּךָhas found courageמָצָאto prayלְהִתְפַּלֵּלbefore you.לְפָנֶיךָ
And now,וְעַתָּהYHWH,יְהוָהyouאַתָּהareהוּאElohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםand you have spokenוַתְּדַבֵּרconcerningעַלyour servantעַבְדְּךָthisהַזֹּאתgood thing.הַטּוֹבָה
And now,וְעַתָּהyou have been pleasedהוֹאַלְתָּto blessלְבָרֵךְthe houseבֵּיתof your servant,עַבְדְּךָthat it may beלִהְיוֹתforeverלְעוֹלָםbefore you;לְפָנֶיךָforכִּיyou,אַתָּהYHWH,יְהוָהhave blessed,בֵּרַכְתָּand it will be blessedוּמְבֹרָךְforever.”לְעוֹלָם
