And it happened,וַיְהִיwhenכִּיthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְlivedיָשַׁבin his houseבְּבֵיתוֹand YHWHוַיהוָהhad given him restהֵנִיחַ לוֹfromמִallכָּלhis enemiesאֹיְבָיוall around,מִסָּבִיב
that the kingהַמֶּלֶךְsaidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלNathanנָתָןthe prophet,הַנָּבִיא“See,רְאֵהplease:נָאIאָנֹכִיliveיוֹשֵׁבin a houseבְּבֵיתof cedar,אֲרָזִיםbut the arkוַאֲרוֹןof Elohimהָאֱלֹהִיםremainsיֹשֵׁבinsideבְּתוֹךְthe curtain.”הַיְרִיעָה
Nathanנָתָןsaidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלthe king,הַמֶּלֶךְ“Allכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרisin your heart,בִּלְבָבְךָgo,לֵךְdo it,עֲשֵׂהforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהiswith you.”עִמָּךְ
And it happenedוַיְהִיthat nightבַּלַּיְלָה הַהוּאthatוַthe wordדְּבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיtoאֶלNathan,נָתָןsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Goלֵךְand sayוְאָמַרְתָּtoאֶלmy servant,עַבְדִּיtoאֶלDavid,דָּוִד‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהWill youהַאַתָּהbuildתִּבְנֶהmeלִּיa houseבַיִתfor me to live in?לְשִׁבְתִּי
ForכִּיI have notלֹאlivedיָשַׁבְתִּיin a houseבְּבַיִתfromלְמִthe dayיּוֹםI brought upהַעֲלֹתִיthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלfrom Egyptמִמִּצְרַיִםtoוְעַדthisהַזֶּהday,הַיּוֹםbut I have beenוָאֶהְיֶהmoving aboutמִתְהַלֵּךְin a tentבְּאֹהֶלand in a dwelling.וּבְמִשְׁכָּן
Whereverבְּכֹל אֲשֶׁרI have moved aboutהִתְהַלַּכְתִּיamong allבְּכָלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלdid I speakהֲ דִּבַּרְתִּיa wordדָבָרwithאֶתoneאַחַדof the tribesשִׁבְטֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלwhomאֲשֶׁרI commandedצִוִּיתִיto shepherdלִרְעוֹתmy peopleעַמִּיIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלsaying,לֵאמֹר“Whyלָמָּהhave you notלֹאbuiltבְנִיתֶםmeלִיa houseבֵּיתof cedar?”’אֲרָזִים
And now,וְעַתָּהthusכֹּהyou shall sayתֹאמַרto my servant,לְעַבְדִּיto David,לְדָוִד‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot:צְבָאוֹתIאֲנִיtook youלְקַחְתִּיךָfromמִןthe pasture,הַנָּוֶהfrom followingמֵאַחַרthe flock,הַצֹּאןto beלִהְיוֹתleaderנָגִידoverעַלmy people,עַמִּיoverעַלIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵל
And I have beenוָאֶהְיֶהwith youעִמְּךָwhereverבְּכֹל אֲשֶׁרyou went,הָלַכְתָּand I have cut offוָאַכְרִתָהallכָּלyour enemiesאֹיְבֶיךָfrom before you;מִפָּנֶיךָand I will makeוְעָשִׂתִיfor youלְךָa greatגָּדוֹלname,שֵׁםlike the nameכְּשֵׁםof the great onesהַגְּדֹלִיםwhoאֲשֶׁרareon the earth.בָּאָרֶץ
And I will appointוְשַׂמְתִּיa placeמָקוֹםfor my people,לְעַמִּיfor Israel,לְיִשְׂרָאֵלand I will plant them,וּנְטַעְתִּיוand they will dwellוְשָׁכַןin their own placeתַּחְתָּיוand will trembleיִרְגַּזnoוְלֹאmore;עוֹדand unjust menבְנֵי עַוְלָהwill notוְלֹאagainיֹסִיפוּafflict themלְעַנּוֹתוֹasכַּאֲשֶׁרat the beginning,בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה
even fromוּלְמִןthe dayהַיּוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרI commandedצִוִּיתִיjudgesשֹׁפְטִיםto be overעַלmy peopleעַמִּיIsrael;יִשְׂרָאֵלand I will give you restוַהֲנִיחֹתִי לְךָfrom allמִכָּלyour enemies.אֹיְבֶיךָAnd YHWHוְ יְהוָהdeclaresהִגִּידto youלְךָthatכִּיYHWHיְהוָהwill makeיַעֲשֶׂהa houseבַיִתfor you.לְּךָ
Whenכִּיyour daysיָמֶיךָare fulfilledיִמְלְאוּand you lie downוְשָׁכַבְתָּwithאֶתyour fathers,אֲבֹתֶיךָI will raise upוַהֲקִימֹתִיyour offspringזַרְעֲךָafter you,אַחֲרֶיךָwhoאֲשֶׁרwill come outיֵצֵאfrom your body,מִמֵּעֶיךָand I will establishוַהֲכִינֹתִיhis kingdom.מַמְלַכְתּוֹ
Heהוּאwill buildיִבְנֶהa houseבַּיִתfor my name,לִשְׁמִיand I will make firmוְכֹנַנְתִּיthe throneכִּסֵּאof his kingdomמַמְלַכְתּוֹforever.עַד עוֹלָם
Iאֲנִיwill beאֶהְיֶהto himלּוֹa father,לְאָבand heוְהוּאwill beיִהְיֶהto meלִּיa son.לְבֵןWhenאֲשֶׁר בְּhe commits iniquity,הַעֲוֺתוֹI will rebuke himוְהֹכַחְתִּיוwith the rodבְּשֵׁבֶטof menאֲנָשִׁיםand with the blowsוּבְנִגְעֵיof human beings,בְּנֵי אָדָם
but my loyal loveוְחַסְדִּיwill notלֹאdepartיָסוּרfrom him,מִמֶּנּוּasכַּאֲשֶׁרI took it awayהֲסִרֹתִיfromמֵעִםSaul,שָׁאוּלwhomאֲשֶׁרI took awayהֲסִרֹתִיfrom before you.מִלְּפָנֶיךָ
And your houseוְ בֵּיתְךָand your kingdomוּמַמְלַכְתְּךָwill be firmנֶאְמַןforeverעַד עוֹלָםbefore you;לְפָנֶיךָyour throneכִּסְאֲךָwill beיִהְיֶהestablishedנָכוֹןforever.’”עַד עוֹלָם
In accordance with allכְּכֹלtheseהָאֵלֶּהwordsהַדְּבָרִיםand in accordance with allוּכְכֹלthisהַזֶּהvision,הַחִזָּיוֹןsoכֵּןNathanנָתָןspokeדִּבֶּרtoאֶלDavid.דָּוִד
Then Kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְDavidדָּוִדwent inיָּבֹאand satוַיֵּשֶׁבbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Whoמִיam I,אָנֹכִיAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהand whoוּמִיismy house,בֵיתִיthatכִּיyou have brought meהֲבִיאֹתַנִיthis far?עַד הֲלֹם
And thisוַ זֹאתwas stillעוֹדsmallתִּקְטַןin your eyes,בְּעֵינֶיךָAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH;יְהוִהand you have spokenוַתְּדַבֵּרalsoגַּםofאֶלthe houseבֵּיתof your servantעַבְדְּךָfor a long time to come;לְמֵרָחוֹקand thisוְזֹאתisthe mannerתּוֹרַתof humankind,הָאָדָםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH!יְהוִה
And whatוּמַהcan Davidדָּוִדaddיּוֹסִיףfurtherעוֹדto sayלְדַבֵּרto you?אֵלֶיךָYouוְאַתָּהknowיָדַעְתָּyour servant,עַבְדְּךָAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH.יְהוִה
For the sake ofבַּעֲבוּרyour wordדְּבָרְךָand according toוּכְyour heartלִבְּךָyou have doneעָשִׂיתָallכָּלthisהַזֹּאתgreatness,הַגְּדוּלָּהto make it knownלְהוֹדִיעַto your servant.עַבְדֶּךָ
Thereforeעַל כֵּןyou are great,גָּדַלְתָּAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH;יְהוִהforכִּיthere is noneאֵיןlike you,כָּמוֹךָand there is noוְאֵיןElohimאֱלֹהִיםbesides you,זוּלָתֶךָaccording to allבְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרwe have heardשָׁמַעְנוּwith our ears.בְּאָזְנֵינוּ
And whoוּמִיislike your people,כְעַמְּךָlike Israel,כְּיִשְׂרָאֵלoneאֶחָדnationגּוֹיon the earth,בָּאָרֶץwhomאֲשֶׁרElohimאֱלֹהִיםwentהָלְכוּto rescueלִפְדּוֹתfor himselfלוֹas a people,לְעָםand to makeוְלָשׂוּםfor himselfלוֹa name,שֵׁםand to doוְלַעֲשׂוֹתfor youלָכֶםthe greatnessהַגְּדוּלָּהand awesome thingsוְנֹרָאוֹתfor your land,לְאַרְצֶךָbeforeמִפְּנֵיyour people,עַמְּךָwhomאֲשֶׁרyou rescuedפָּדִיתָfor yourselfלְּךָfrom Egypt,מִמִּצְרַיִםfromnationsגּוֹיִםand its gods?וֵאלֹהָיו
You made firmוַתְּכוֹנֵןfor yourselfלְךָyour peopleעַמְּךָIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלto be yourלְךָpeopleלְעָםforever;עַד עוֹלָםand you,וְאַתָּהYHWH,יְהוָהhave becomeהָיִיתָtheirלָהֶםElohim.לֵאלֹהִים
And now,וְעַתָּהYHWHיְהוָהElohim,אֱלֹהִיםthe wordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרyou have spokenדִּבַּרְתָּconcerningעַלyour servantעַבְדְּךָand concerningוְעַלhis house,בֵּיתוֹconfirm itהָקֵםforever,עַד עוֹלָםand doוַעֲשֵׂהasכַּאֲשֶׁרyou have spoken.דִּבַּרְתָּ
And may your nameוְ שִׁמְךָbe greatיִגְדַּלforever,עַד עוֹלָםso that it is said,לֵאמֹר‘YHWHיְהוָהTsevaotצְבָאוֹתisElohimאֱלֹהִיםoverעַלIsrael’;יִשְׂרָאֵלand may the houseוּבֵיתof your servantעַבְדְּךָDavidדָוִדbeיִהְיֶהestablishedנָכוֹןbefore you.לְפָנֶיךָ
Forכִּיyou,אַתָּהYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתElohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלhave made this knownגָּלִיתָה אֹזֶןto your servant,עַבְדְּךָsaying,לֵאמֹר‘A houseבַּיִתI will buildאֶבְנֶהfor you’;לָּךְthereforeעַל כֵּןyour servantעַבְדְּךָhas foundמָצָאhis heartלִבּוֹto prayלְהִתְפַּלֵּלto youאֵלֶיךָthisהַזֹּאתprayer.הַתְּפִלָּה
And now,וְעַתָּהAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהyouאַתָּהareהוּאElohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםand your wordsוּדְבָרֶיךָareיִהְיוּtruth,אֱמֶתand you have spokenוַתְּדַבֵּרtoאֶלyour servantעַבְדְּךָthisהַזֹּאתgood thing.הַטּוֹבָה
And now,וְעַתָּהbe pleasedהוֹאֵלto blessוּבָרֵךְthe houseבֵּיתof your servant,עַבְדְּךָthat it may beלִהְיוֹתforeverלְעוֹלָםbefore you;לְפָנֶיךָforכִּיyou,אַתָּהAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהhave spoken,דִּבַּרְתָּand with your blessingוּמִבִּרְכָתְךָlet the houseבֵּיתof your servantעַבְדְּךָbe blessedיְבֹרַךְforever.”לְעוֹלָם
