Jericho
Today: Jericho (Ariha), West Bank
A city in the Jordan valley, about 15 miles (25 km) northeast of Jerusalem and not far from the river.
It was the first city Israel took in Canaan; its walls fell (Josh 6:20). Centuries later Jesus passed through Jericho and saved Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10).
The context
14He took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water and said, “Where is YHWH, the Elohim of Elijah?” He too struck the water, and it was divided to one side and to the other, and Elisha crossed over.
