Ahaziahוַ אֲחַזְיָהfellיִּפֹּלthrough the latticeבְּעַד הַשְּׂבָכָהof his upper roomבַּעֲלִיָּתוֹthat wasאֲשֶׁרin Samariaבְּשֹׁמְרוֹןand became sick.וַיָּחַלHe sentוַיִּשְׁלַחmessengersמַלְאָכִיםand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵהֶם“Go,לְכוּconsultדִרְשׁוּBaal-zebub,בְּבַעַל זְבוּבthe godאֱלֹהֵיof Ekron,עֶקְרוֹןwhetherאִםI will liveאֶחְיֶהthrough thisמֵ זֶהsickness.”חֳלִי
But the angelוּמַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהspokeדִּבֶּרto Elijahאֶל אֵלִיָּהthe Tishbite,הַתִּשְׁבִּי“Get up,קוּםgo upעֲלֵהto meetלִקְרַאתthe messengersמַלְאֲכֵיof the kingמֶלֶךְof Samaria,שֹׁמְרוֹןand sayוְדַבֵּרto them,אֲלֵהֶם‘Is it because there is noהַמִבְּלִי אֵיןElohimאֱלֹהִיםin Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלthat youאַתֶּםare goingהֹלְכִיםto consultלִדְרֹשׁBaal-zebub,בְּבַעַל זְבוּבthe godאֱלֹהֵיof Ekron?’עֶקְרוֹן
ThereforeוְלָכֵןthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָה‘From the bedהַמִּטָּה מִמֶּנָּהto whichאֲשֶׁר שָּׁםyou have gone upעָלִיתָyou will notלֹאcome down,תֵרֵדbutכִּיyou will surely die.’”מוֹת תָּמוּתAnd Elijahוַ אֵלִיָּהwent.יֵּלֶךְ
The messengersהַמַּלְאָכִיםreturnedוַיָּשׁוּבוּto him,אֵלָיוand he saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵיהֶם“Whyמַה זֶּהhave you returned?”שַׁבְתֶּם
They saidוַיֹּאמְרוּto him,אֵלָיו“A manאִישׁcame upעָלָהto meet usלִקְרָאתֵנוּand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto us,אֵלֵינוּ‘Go,לְכוּreturnשׁוּבוּto the kingאֶל הַמֶּלֶךְwhoאֲשֶׁרsent youשָׁלַח אֶתְכֶםand speakוְדִבַּרְתֶּםto him,אֵלָיו“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָה‘Is it because there is noהַמִבְּלִי אֵיןElohimאֱלֹהִיםin Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלthat youאַתָּהare sendingשֹׁלֵחַto consultלִדְרֹשׁBaal-zebub,בְּבַעַל זְבוּבthe godאֱלֹהֵיof Ekron?עֶקְרוֹןThereforeלָכֵןfrom the bedהַמִּטָּה מִמֶּנָּהto whichאֲשֶׁר שָּׁםyou have gone upעָלִיתָyou will notלֹאcome down,תֵרֵדbutכִּיyou will surely die.’”’”מוֹת תָּמוּת
He spokeוַיְדַבֵּרto them,אֲלֵהֶם“Whatמֶהwas the appearanceמִשְׁפַּטof the manהָאִישׁwhoאֲשֶׁרcame upעָלָהto meet youלִקְרַאתְכֶםand spokeוַיְדַבֵּרto youאֲלֵיכֶםtheseהָאֵלֶּהwords?”אֶת הַדְּבָרִים
They saidוַיֹּאמְרוּto him,אֵלָיו“A hairyבַּעַל שֵׂעָרman,אִישׁwith a beltוְאֵזוֹרof leatherעוֹרtiedאָזוּרaround his waist.”בְּמָתְנָיוHe said,וַיֹּאמַר“It isהוּאElijahאֵלִיָּהthe Tishbite.”הַתִּשְׁבִּי
He sentוַיִּשְׁלַחto himאֵלָיוa commanderשַׂרof fiftyחֲמִשִּׁיםwith his fifty.וַחֲמִשָּׁיוHe went upוַיַּעַלto him,אֵלָיוand there he was,וְהִנֵּהsittingיֹשֵׁבon the topעַל רֹאשׁof the mountain.הָהָרHe spokeוַיְדַבֵּרto him,אֵלָיו“Manאִישׁof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְhas spoken:דִּבֶּר‘Come down.’”רֵדָה
Elijahאֵלִיָּהוּansweredוַיַּעֲנֶהand spokeוַיְדַבֵּרto the commanderאֶל שַׂרof the fifty,הַחֲמִשִּׁים“And ifוְאִםIאָנִיam a manאִישׁof Elohim,אֱלֹהִיםlet fireאֵשׁcome downתֵּרֶדfrom the heavensמִן הַשָּׁמַיִםand consumeוְתֹאכַלyouאֹתְךָand your fifty.”וְאֶת חֲמִשֶּׁיךָAnd fireוַ אֵשׁcame downתֵּרֶדfrom the heavensמִן הַשָּׁמַיִםand consumedוַתֹּאכַלhimאֹתוֹand his fifty.וְאֶת חֲמִשָּׁיו
Againוַיָּשָׁבhe sentוַיִּשְׁלַחto himאֵלָיוanotherאַחֵרcommanderשַׂרof fiftyחֲמִשִּׁיםwith his fifty.וַחֲמִשָּׁיוHe answeredוַיַּעַןand spokeוַיְדַבֵּרto him,אֵלָיו“Manאִישׁof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרthe king:הַמֶּלֶךְ‘Come downרֵדָהquickly.’”מְהֵרָה
Elijahאֵלִיָּהansweredוַיַּעַןand spokeוַיְדַבֵּרto them,אֲלֵיהֶם“IfאִםIאָנִיam a manאִישׁof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםlet fireאֵשׁcome downתֵּרֶדfrom the heavensמִן הַשָּׁמַיִםand consumeוְתֹאכַלyouאֹתְךָand your fifty.”וְאֶת חֲמִשֶּׁיךָAnd the fireוַ אֵשׁof Elohimאֱלֹהִיםcame downתֵּרֶדfrom the heavensמִן הַשָּׁמַיִםand consumedוַתֹּאכַלhimאֹתוֹand his fifty.וְאֶת חֲמִשָּׁיו
Againוַיָּשָׁבhe sentוַיִּשְׁלַחa thirdשְׁלִשִׁיםcommanderשַׂרof fiftyחֲמִשִּׁיםwith his fifty.וַחֲמִשָּׁיוThe thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁיcommanderשַׂרof fiftyהַחֲמִשִּׁיםwent upוַיַּעַלand cameוַיָּבֹאand kneltוַיִּכְרַעonעַלhis kneesבִּרְכָּיוbeforeלְנֶגֶדElijahאֵלִיָּהוּand pleadedוַיִּתְחַנֵּןwith himאֵלָיוand spokeוַיְדַבֵּרto him,אֵלָיו“Manאִישׁof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםplease,נָאlet my lifeנַפְשִׁיand the lifeוְנֶפֶשׁof theseאֵלֶּהfiftyחֲמִשִּׁיםservants of yoursעֲבָדֶיךָbe preciousתִּיקַרin your eyes.בְּעֵינֶיךָ
Look,הִנֵּהfireאֵשׁcame downיָרְדָהfrom the heavensמִן הַשָּׁמַיִםand consumedוַתֹּאכַלthe twoאֶת שְׁנֵיfirstהָרִאשֹׁנִיםcommandersשָׂרֵיof fiftyהַחֲמִשִּׁיםand their fifties;וְאֶת חֲמִשֵּׁיהֶםbut nowוְעַתָּהlet my lifeנַפְשִׁיbe preciousתִּיקַרin your eyes.”בְּעֵינֶיךָ
The angelמַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהspokeוַיְדַבֵּרto Elijah,אֶל אֵלִיָּהוּ“Go downרֵדwith him;אוֹתוֹdo notאַלbe afraidתִּירָאof him.”מִפָּנָיוHe got upוַיָּקָםand went downוַיֵּרֶדwith himאוֹתוֹto the king.אֶל הַמֶּלֶךְ
He spokeוַיְדַבֵּרto him,אֵלָיו“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָה‘Becauseיַעַן אֲשֶׁרyou sentשָׁלַחְתָּmessengersמַלְאָכִיםto consultלִדְרֹשׁBaal-zebub,בְּבַעַל זְבוּבthe godאֱלֹהֵיof Ekron,עֶקְרוֹןis it because there is noהַמִבְּלִי אֵיןElohimאֱלֹהִיםin Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלto consultלִדְרֹשׁhis word?בִּדְבָרוֹThereforeלָכֵןfrom the bedהַמִּטָּה מִמֶּנָּהto whichאֲשֶׁר שָּׁםyou have gone upעָלִיתָyou will notלֹאcome down,תֵרֵדbutכִּיyou will surely die.’”מוֹת תָּמוּת
He diedוַיָּמָתaccording to the wordכִּדְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהthatאֲשֶׁרElijahאֵלִיָּהוּhad spoken.דִּבֶּרAnd Joramוַ יְהוֹרָםreignedיִּמְלֹךְin his placeתַּחְתָּיוin yearבִּשְׁנַתtwoשְׁתַּיִםof Joramלִיהוֹרָםsonבֶּןof Jehoshaphat,יְהוֹשָׁפָטkingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהbecauseכִּיhe did notלֹאhaveהָיָה לוֹa son.בֵּן
