2 Samuel 6:1-11
1David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2David arose and went, with all the people who were with him, from Baale-judah, to bring up from there the ark of Elohim, over which is called the name, the name of YHWH Tsevaot, who sits on the cherubim. 3They set the ark of Elohim on a new cart and carried it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart. 4They carried it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, with the ark of Elohim; and Ahio was walking before the ark. 5David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before YHWH with all kinds of instruments of cypress wood, with lyres, with harps, with tambourines, with sistrums, and with cymbals. 6When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out his hand to the ark of Elohim and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. 7The anger of YHWH burned against Uzzah, and Elohim struck him there for the fault, and he died there beside the ark of Elohim. 8David was angry because YHWH had made a breach against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez-uzzah, to this day. 9David feared YHWH that day and said, “How can the ark of YHWH come to me?” 10So David was not willing to move the ark of YHWH to himself into the city of David; and David turned it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 11The ark of YHWH remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, and YHWH blessed Obed-edom and all his house.
1David consulted with the commanders of the thousands and of the hundreds, with every leader. 2David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is from YHWH our Elohim, let us send everywhere to our brothers who remain in all the lands of Israel, and with them to the priests and the Levites in the cities with their pasturelands, so that they may gather to us; 3and let us bring back the ark of our Elohim to us, for we did not consult it in the days of Saul.” 4All the assembly said to do so, for the thing seemed right in the eyes of all the people. 5So David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor of Egypt as far as the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of Elohim from Kiriath-jearim. 6And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, to Kiriath-jearim, which belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of Elohim, of YHWH, who sits on the cherubim, where the name is called. 7They set the ark of Elohim on a new cart from the house of Abinadab, and Uzzah and Ahio were driving the cart. 8And David and all Israel were celebrating before Elohim with all their strength, with songs and with lyres and with harps and with tambourines and with cymbals and with trumpets. 9They came to the threshing floor of Chidon, and Uzzah reached out his hand to take hold of the ark, for the oxen stumbled. 10The anger of YHWH burned against Uzzah, and he struck him because he had put out his hand on the ark; and he died there before Elohim. 11David was angry because YHWH had made a breach against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez-uzzah, to this day. 12David feared Elohim that day, saying, “How shall I bring the ark of Elohim to me?” 13So David did not move the ark to himself, to the city of David, but he turned it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 14The ark of Elohim remained with the house of Obed-edom in his house three months, and YHWH blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that he had.
