1And it happened after this that David struck the Philistines and subdued them; and David took Metheg-ammah from the hand of the Philistines. 2He struck Moab and measured them with the line, making them lie down on the ground; he measured two lines to put to death and one full line to keep alive. And Moab became David’s servants, bearing tribute. 3David struck Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when he went to restore his hand at the river Euphrates. 4David captured from him one thousand seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand foot soldiers; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, and left of them a hundred chariots. 5When Aram of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck of Aram twenty two thousand men. 6David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and Aram became David’s servants, bearing tribute. And YHWH saved David wherever he went. 7David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. 8And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took a great deal of bronze. 9When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the force of Hadadezer, 10Toi sent Joram his son to King David to ask him about his welfare and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him; for Hadadezer had been a man of wars with Toi. And in his hand were articles of silver, and articles of gold, and articles of bronze. 11These also King David consecrated to YHWH, with the silver and the gold that he had consecrated from all the nations that he had subdued: 12from Aram, from Moab, from the sons of Ammon, from the Philistines, from Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah. 13David made a name for himself when he returned from striking Aram in the Valley of Salt: eighteen thousand. 14He put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all Edom became servants to David. And YHWH saved David wherever he went. 15David reigned over all Israel, and David was doing justice and righteousness for all his people. 16Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was recorder; 17Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests; Seraiah was scribe; 18Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were priests.
