And the wordוַ דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיto me,אֵלַיsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Sonבֶּןof man,אָדָםwhatמַהisיִּהְיֶהthe woodעֵץof the vineהַגֶּפֶןmore than anyמִכָּלwood,עֵץthe branchהַזְּמוֹרָהthatאֲשֶׁרwasהָיָהamong the treesבַּעֲצֵיof the forest?הַיָּעַר
Is woodהֲ עֵץtakenיֻקַּחfrom itמִמֶּנּוּto makeלַעֲשׂוֹתsomething useful?לִמְלָאכָהOrאִםdo they takeיִקְחוּfrom itמִמֶּנּוּa pegיָתֵדto hangלִתְלוֹתon itעָלָיוanyכָּלvessel?כֶּלִי
Look,הִנֵּהit is givenנִתַּןto the fireלָאֵשׁfor fuel;לְאָכְלָהits twoאֵת שְׁנֵיendsקְצוֹתָיוthe fireהָאֵשׁconsumes,אָכְלָהand its middleוְתוֹכוֹis charred.נָחָרIs it usefulהֲיִצְלַחfor any work?לִמְלָאכָה
Look,הִנֵּהwhen itבִּהְיוֹתוֹwas whole,תָמִיםit was notלֹאmadeיֵעָשֶׂהinto anything useful;לִמְלָאכָהhow much lessאַף כִּיwhen the fireאֵשׁhas consumed itאֲכָלַתְהוּand it is charred,וַיֵּחָרcan it stillוְ עוֹדbe madeנַעֲשָׂהinto anything useful!”לִמְלָאכָה
ThereforeלָכֵןthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהוִה“Likeכַּאֲשֶׁרthe woodעֵץof the vineהַגֶּפֶןamong the treesבְּעֵץof the forest,הַיַּעַרwhichאֲשֶׁרI have givenנְתַתִּיוto the fireלָאֵשׁfor fuel,לְאָכְלָהsoכֵּןI have givenנָתַתִּיthe inhabitantsאֶת יֹשְׁבֵיof Jerusalem.יְרוּשָׁלִָם
And I will setוְנָתַתִּיmy faceאֶת פָּנַיagainst them;בָּהֶםfrom the fireמֵהָאֵשׁthey have come out,יָצָאוּand the fireוְהָאֵשׁwill consume them;תֹּאכְלֵםand you will knowוִידַעְתֶּםthatכִּיI amאֲנִיYHWHיְהוָהwhen I setבְּשׂוּמִיmy faceאֶת פָּנַיagainst them.בָּהֶם
And I will makeוְנָתַתִּיthe landאֶת הָאָרֶץa desolationשְׁמָמָהbecauseיַעַןthey have committedמָעֲלוּa breach of faith,מַעַלdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH.”יְהוִה
