And menוַ אֲנָשִׁיםof the eldersמִזִּקְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלcameיָּבוֹאto meאֵלַיand satוַיֵּשְׁבוּbefore me.לְפָנָי
And the wordוַ דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיto me,אֵלַיsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Sonבֶּןof man,אָדָםtheseהָאֵלֶּהmenהָאֲנָשִׁיםhave taken upהֶעֱלוּtheir idolsגִלּוּלֵיהֶםinto their heart,עַל לִבָּםand the stumbling blockוּמִכְשׁוֹלof their iniquityעֲוֺנָםthey have putנָתְנוּbeforeנֹכַחtheir face.פְּנֵיהֶםShould I let myself be consulted at allהַאִדָּרֹשׁ אִדָּרֵשׁby them?לָהֶם
Thereforeלָכֵןspeakדַּבֵּרto themאוֹתָםand sayוְאָמַרְתָּto them,אֲלֵיהֶם‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהוִהAny manאִישׁ אִישׁof the houseמִבֵּיתof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwhoאֲשֶׁרtakes upיַעֲלֶהhis idolsאֶת גִּלּוּלָיוinto his heartאֶל לִבּוֹand putsיָשִׂיםthe stumbling blockוּמִכְשׁוֹלof his iniquityעֲוֺנוֹbeforeנֹכַחhis faceפָּנָיוand comesוּבָאto the prophet,אֶל הַנָּבִיאI,אֲנִיYHWH,יְהוָהwill answerנַעֲנֵיתִיhimלוֹin itבָאaccording to the multitudeבְּרֹבof his idols,גִּלּוּלָיו
in order toלְמַעַןseizeתְּפֹשׂthe houseאֶת בֵּיתof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלby their heart,בְּלִבָּםbecauseאֲשֶׁרthey have turned awayנָזֹרוּfrom me,מֵעָלַיall of them,כֻּלָּםthrough their idols.’בְּגִלּוּלֵיהֶם
Thereforeלָכֵןsayאֱמֹרto the houseאֶל בֵּיתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהוִהTurn back,שׁוּבוּand turn awayוְהָשִׁיבוּfrom your idols,מֵעַל גִּלּוּלֵיכֶםand from allוּמֵעַל כָּלyour abominationsתּוֹעֲבֹתֵיכֶםturn awayהָשִׁיבוּyour faces.פְנֵיכֶם
Forכִּיany manאִישׁ אִישׁof the houseמִבֵּיתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלor of the resident aliensוּמֵהַגֵּרwhoאֲשֶׁרresideיָגוּרin Israel,בְּיִשְׂרָאֵלwho separates himselfוְיִנָּזֵרfrom following meמֵאַחֲרַיand takes upוְיַעַלhis idolsגִּלּוּלָיוinto his heartאֶל לִבּוֹand putsיָשִׂיםthe stumbling blockוּמִכְשׁוֹלof his iniquityעֲוֺנוֹbeforeנֹכַחhis faceפָּנָיוand comesוּבָאto the prophetאֶל הַנָּבִיאto consultלִדְרָשׁmeבִיfor himself,לוֹI,אֲנִיYHWH,יְהוָהwill answerנַעֲנֶהhimלּוֹmyself.בִּי
And I will setוְנָתַתִּיmy faceפָנַיagainst thatבָּ הַהוּאman,אִישׁand I will make himוַהֲשִׂמֹתִיהוּa signלְאוֹתand proverbs,וְלִמְשָׁלִיםand I will cut him offוְהִכְרַתִּיוfrom the midstמִתּוֹךְof my people;עַמִּיand you will knowוִידַעְתֶּםthatכִּיI amאֲנִיYHWH.יְהוָה
And the prophet,וְהַנָּבִיאifכִיhe is enticedיְפֻתֶּהand speaksוְדִבֶּרa word,דָּבָרI,אֲנִיYHWH,יְהוָהhave enticedפִּתֵּיתִיthatאֵת הַהוּאprophet,הַנָּבִיאand I will stretch outוְנָטִיתִיmy handאֶת יָדִיagainst himעָלָיוand destroy himוְהִשְׁמַדְתִּיוfrom the midstמִתּוֹךְof my peopleעַמִּיIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵל
And they will bearוְנָשְׂאוּtheir iniquity;עֲוֺנָםlike the iniquityכַּעֲוֺןof the one who consultsהַדֹּרֵשׁwill beיִהְיֶהthe iniquityכַּעֲוֺןof the prophet,הַנָּבִיא
so thatלְמַעַןthe houseבֵּיתof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwill noלֹאlongerעוֹדgo astrayיִתְעוּfrom following meמֵאַחֲרַיand noוְלֹאlongerעוֹדdefile themselvesיִטַּמְּאוּwith allבְּכָלtheir transgressions,פִּשְׁעֵיהֶםbut they will beוְהָיוּmyלִיpeople,לְעָםand Iוַאֲנִיwill beאֶהְיֶהtheirלָהֶםElohim,לֵאלֹהִיםdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH.’”יְהוִה
And the wordוַ דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיto me,אֵלַיsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Sonבֶּןof man,אָדָםa land,אֶרֶץwhenכִּיit sinsתֶחֱטָאagainst meלִיby committingלִמְעָלa breach of faith,מַעַלand I stretch outוְנָטִיתִיmy handיָדִיagainst itעָלֶיהָand breakוְשָׁבַרְתִּיitsלָהּstaffמַטֵּהof breadלָחֶםand sendוְהִשְׁלַחְתִּיfamineרָעָבinto itבָהּand cut offוְהִכְרַתִּיfrom itמִמֶּנָּהhuman beingאָדָםand beast,וּבְהֵמָה
and theseוְ הָאֵלֶּהthreeשְׁלֹשֶׁתmenהָאֲנָשִׁיםwereהָיוּin its midst,בְּתוֹכָהּNoah,נֹחַDaniel,דָּנִיֵּאלand Job,וְאִיּוֹבtheyהֵמָּהby their righteousnessבְצִדְקָתָםwould deliverיְנַצְּלוּtheir souls,נַפְשָׁםdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH.יְהוִה
IfלוּI madeאַעֲבִירa ferociousרָעָהanimalחַיָּהpass throughבָּthe land,אָרֶץand it left it childless,וְשִׁכְּלָתָּהand it becameוְהָיְתָהa desolationשְׁמָמָהwithoutמִבְּלִיanyone passing throughעוֹבֵרbecauseמִפְּנֵיof the animal,הַחַיָּה
even if theseהָאֵלֶּהthreeשְׁלֹשֶׁתmenהָאֲנָשִׁיםwere in its midst,בְּתוֹכָהּas I live,חַי אָנִיdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהneitherאִםsonsבָּנִיםnorוְאִםdaughtersבָּנוֹתwould they deliver;יַצִּילוּtheyהֵמָּהaloneלְבַדָּםwould be delivered,יִנָּצֵלוּand the landוְהָאָרֶץwould beתִּהְיֶהa desolation.שְׁמָמָה
Orאוֹif I bringאָבִיאa swordחֶרֶבupon thatעַל הָ הַהִיאlandאָרֶץand say,וְאָמַרְתִּי‘Sword,חֶרֶבpass throughתַּעֲבֹרthe land,’בָּאָרֶץand cut offוְהִכְרַתִּיfrom itמִמֶּנָּהhuman beingאָדָםand beast,וּבְהֵמָה
and theseוּ הָאֵלֶּהthreeשְׁלֹשֶׁתmenהָאֲנָשִׁיםwere in its midst,בְּתוֹכָהּas Iאָנִיlive,חַיdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהthey would notלֹאdeliverיַצִּילוּsonsבָּנִיםor daughters,וּבָנוֹתbutכִּיtheyהֵםaloneלְבַדָּםwould be delivered.יִנָּצֵלוּ
Orאוֹif I sendאֲשַׁלַּחpestilenceדֶּבֶרinto thatאֶל הָ הַהִיאlandאָרֶץand pour outוְשָׁפַכְתִּיmy furyחֲמָתִיupon itעָלֶיהָwith bloodבְּדָםto cut offלְהַכְרִיתfrom itמִמֶּנָּהhuman beingאָדָםand beast,וּבְהֵמָה
and Noah,וְנֹחַDaniel,דָּנִיֵּאלand Jobוְאִיּוֹבwere in its midst,בְּתוֹכָהּas Iאָנִיlive,חַיdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהneitherאִםsonבֵּןnorאִםdaughterבַּתwould they deliver;יַצִּילוּtheyהֵמָּהby their righteousnessבְצִדְקָתָםwould deliverיַצִּילוּtheir souls.נַפְשָׁם
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהֹוִה‘How much moreאַף כִּיwhen myיfourאַרְבַּעַתevilהָרָעִיםjudgments,שְׁפָטַsword,חֶרֶבfamine,וְרָעָבferociousרָעָהanimal,וְחַיָּהand pestilence,וָדֶבֶרI sendשִׁלַּחְתִּיagainst Jerusalemאֶל יְרוּשָׁלִָםto cut offלְהַכְרִיתfrom itמִמֶּנָּהhuman beingאָדָםand beast!וּבְהֵמָה
And look,וְהִנֵּהthere will be leftנוֹתְרָהin itבָּהּsurvivorsפְּלֵטָהbrought out,הַמּוּצָאִיםsonsבָּנִיםand daughters;וּבָנוֹתlook, theyהִנָּםare coming outיוֹצְאִיםto you,אֲלֵיכֶםand you will seeוּרְאִיתֶםtheir wayאֶת דַּרְכָּםand their deeds,וְאֶת עֲלִילוֹתָםand you will be comfortedוְנִחַמְתֶּםover the evilעַל הָרָעָהthatאֲשֶׁרI have broughtהֵבֵאתִיupon Jerusalem,עַל יְרוּשָׁלִַםallאֵת כָּלthatאֲשֶׁרI have broughtהֵבֵאתִיupon it.עָלֶיהָ
And they will comfortוְנִחֲמוּyouאֶתְכֶםwhenכִּיyou seeתִרְאוּtheir wayאֶת דַּרְכָּםand their deeds,וְאֶת עֲלִילוֹתָםand you will knowוִידַעְתֶּםthatכִּיnotלֹאwithout causeחִנָּםhave I doneעָשִׂיתִיallאֵת כָּלthatאֲשֶׁרI have doneעָשִׂיתִיin it,בָהּdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH.’”יְהֹוִה
