In the secondבִּ שְׁתַּיִםyearשְׁנַתof Dariusלְדָרְיָוֶשׁthe king,הַמֶּלֶךְin the sixthבַּ הַשִּׁשִּׁיmonth,חֹדֶשׁon the firstבְּ אֶחָדdayיוֹםof the month,לַחֹדֶשׁthe wordדְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameהָיָהthroughבְּיַדHaggaiחַגַּיthe prophetהַנָּבִיאto Zerubbabelאֶל זְרֻבָּבֶלsonבֶּןof Shealtiel,שְׁאַלְתִּיאֵלgovernorפַּחַתof Judah,יְהוּדָהand to Joshuaוְאֶל יְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבֶּןof Jehozadak,יְהוֹצָדָקthe highהַגָּדוֹלpriest,הַכֹּהֵןsaying,לֵאמֹר
ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתsaying:לֵאמֹרThisהַזֶּהpeopleהָעָםsay,אָמְרוּ“The timeעֶתhas notלֹאcome,בֹּאthe timeעֶתfor the houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהto be built.”לְהִבָּנוֹת
And the wordוַ דְּבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיthroughבְּיַדHaggaiחַגַּיthe prophet,הַנָּבִיאsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Is it a timeהַעֵתfor you,לָכֶםyou yourselves,אַתֶּםto dwellלָשֶׁבֶתin your paneledסְפוּנִיםhouses,בְּבָתֵּיכֶםwhile thisוְ הַזֶּהhouseהַבַּיִתlies desolate?חָרֵב
And now,וְעַתָּהthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot:צְבָאוֹתSetשִׂימוּyour heartלְבַבְכֶםonעַלyour ways.דַּרְכֵיכֶם
You have sownזְרַעְתֶּםmuch,הַרְבֵּהand bring inוְהָבֵאlittle;מְעָטyou eat,אָכוֹלand there is noוְאֵיןsatisfaction;לְשָׂבְעָהyou drink,שָׁתוֹand there is noוְאֵיןdrunkenness;לְשָׁכְרָהyou clothe yourselves,לָבוֹשׁand there is noוְאֵיןwarmthלְחֹםfor anyone;לוֹand the one who earns wagesוְהַמִּשְׂתַּכֵּרearns wagesמִשְׂתַּכֵּרforאֶלa bagצְרוֹרwith holes.נָקוּב
ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot:צְבָאוֹתSetשִׂימוּyour heartלְבַבְכֶםonעַלyour ways.דַּרְכֵיכֶם
Go upעֲלוּto the mountainהָהָרand bringוַהֲבֵאתֶםwoodעֵץand buildוּבְנוּthe house,הַבָּיִתand I will take pleasureוְאֶרְצֶהin itבּוֹand be glorified,וְאֶכָּבְדָהsaysאָמַרYHWH.יְהוָה
You lookedפָּנֹהforאֶלmuch,הַרְבֵּהand look,וְהִנֵּהit came to little;לִמְעָטand you brought itוַהֲבֵאתֶםhome,הַבַּיִתand I blewוְנָפַחְתִּיon it.בוֹWhy?יַעַן מֶהdeclaresנְאֻםYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹתBecause ofיַעַןmy house,בֵּיתִיwhichאֲשֶׁרliesהוּאdesolate,חָרֵבwhile youוְאַתֶּםrun,רָצִיםeachאִישׁto his own house.לְבֵיתוֹ
Therefore,עַל כֵּןbecause ofעֲלֵיyouכֶםthe heavensשָמַיִםhave held backכָּלְאוּthe dew,מִטָּלand the earthוְהָאָרֶץhas held backכָּלְאָהits produce.יְבוּלָהּ
And I calledוָאֶקְרָאfor a droughtחֹרֶבonעַלthe landהָאָרֶץand onוְעַלthe mountains,הֶהָרִיםand onוְעַלthe grainהַדָּגָןand onוְעַלthe new wineהַתִּירוֹשׁand onוְעַלthe oil,הַיִּצְהָרand onוְעַלwhatאֲשֶׁרthe groundהָאֲדָמָהbrings forth,תּוֹצִיאand onוְעַלhuman beingsהָאָדָםand onוְעַלlivestock,הַבְּהֵמָהand onוְעַלallכָּלthe laborיְגִיעַof their hands.”כַּפָּיִם
And Zerubbabelוַ זְרֻבָּבֶלsonבֶּןof Shealtiel,שַׁלְתִּיאֵלand Joshuaוִיהוֹשֻׁעַsonבֶּןof Jehozadak,יְהוֹצָדָקthe highהַגָּדוֹלpriest,הַכֹּהֵןand allוְכֹלthe remnantשְׁאֵרִיתof the peopleהָעָםlistenedיִּשְׁמַעto the voiceבְּקוֹלof YHWHיְהוָהtheir Elohimאֱלֹהֵיהֶםand toוְעַלthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof Haggaiחַגַּיthe prophet,הַנָּבִיאasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהtheir Elohimאֱלֹהֵיהֶםhad sent him;שְׁלָחוֹand the peopleוַ הָעָםfearedיִּירְאוּbeforeמִפְּנֵיYHWH.יְהוָה
And Haggai,וַ חַגַּיthe messengerמַלְאַךְof YHWH,יְהוָהspokeיֹּאמֶרwith the messageבְּמַלְאֲכוּתof YHWHיְהוָהto the people,לָעָםsaying,לֵאמֹר“Iאֲנִיam with you,אִתְּכֶםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.”יְהוָה
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהstirred upיָּעַרthe spiritרוּחַof Zerubbabelזְרֻבָּבֶלsonבֶּןof Shealtiel,שַׁלְתִּיאֵלgovernorפַּחַתof Judah,יְהוּדָהand the spiritוְ רוּחַof Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבֶּןof Jehozadak,יְהוֹצָדָקthe highהַגָּדוֹלpriest,הַכֹּהֵןand the spiritוְ רוּחַof allכֹּלthe remnantשְׁאֵרִיתof the people;הָעָםand they cameוַיָּבֹאוּand didוַיַּעֲשׂוּworkמְלָאכָהon the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתtheir Elohim,אֱלֹהֵיהֶם
on the twenty-עֶשְׂרִיםfourthוְאַרְבָּעָהdayבְּיוֹםof the month,לַחֹדֶשׁin the sixth,בַּשִּׁשִּׁיin the secondבִּ שְׁתַּיִםyearשְׁנַתof Dariusלְדָרְיָוֶשׁthe king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
