In the seventh month,בַּשְּׁבִיעִיon the twenty-בְּעֶשְׂרִיםfirstוְאֶחָדday of the month,לַחֹדֶשׁthe wordדְּבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameהָיָהthroughבְּיַדHaggaiחַגַּיthe prophet,הַנָּבִיאsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Speak,אֱמָרplease,נָאtoאֶלZerubbabelזְרֻבָּבֶלsonבֶּןof Shealtiel,שַׁלְתִּיאֵלgovernorפַּחַתof Judah,יְהוּדָהand toוְאֶלJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבֶּןof Jehozadak,יְהוֹצָדָקthe highהַגָּדוֹלpriest,הַכֹּהֵןand toוְאֶלthe remnantשְׁאֵרִיתof the people,הָעָםsaying,לֵאמֹר
‘Whoמִיis leftהַנִּשְׁאָרamong youבָכֶםwhoאֲשֶׁרsawרָאָהthisהַזֶּהhouseהַבַּיִתin its formerבִּ הָרִאשׁוֹןglory?כְבוֹדוֹAnd howוּמָהdo youאַתֶּםseeרֹאִיםitאֹתוֹnow?עַתָּהIs it not,הֲלוֹאcompared with it,כָמֹהוּas nothingכְּאַיִןin your eyes?בְּעֵינֵיכֶם
And now,וְעַתָּהbe strong,חֲזַקZerubbabel,זְרֻבָּבֶלdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH;יְהוָהand be strong,וַחֲזַקJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבֶּןof Jehozadak,יְהוֹצָדָקthe highהַגָּדוֹלpriest;הַכֹּהֵןand be strong,וַחֲזַקallכָּלyou peopleעַםof the land,הָאָרֶץdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand work;וַעֲשׂוּforכִּיIאֲנִיam with you,אִתְּכֶםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
According to the wordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרI covenantedכָּרַתִּיwith youאִתְּכֶםwhen you came outבְּצֵאתְכֶםof Egypt,מִמִּצְרַיִםand my spiritוְרוּחִיremainsעֹמֶדֶתin your midst;בְּתוֹכְכֶםdo notאַלfear.’תִּירָאוּ
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot:צְבָאוֹת‘Onceאַחַתmore,עוֹדin a little while,מְעַט הִיאIוַאֲנִיwill shakeמַרְעִישׁthe heavensהַשָּׁמַיִםand the earth,וְ הָאָרֶץand the seaוְ הַיָּםand the dry land.וְ הֶחָרָבָה
And I will shakeוְהִרְעַשְׁתִּיallכָּלthe nations,הַגּוֹיִםand the treasuresוּ חֶמְדַּתof allכָּלthe nationsהַגּוֹיִםwill come,בָאוּand I will fillוּמִלֵּאתִיthisהַזֶּהhouseהַבַּיִתwith glory,’כָּבוֹדsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
‘Mineלִיis the silver,הַכֶּסֶףand mineוְלִיthe gold,’הַזָּהָבdeclaresנְאֻםYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
‘Greaterגָּדוֹלwill beיִהְיֶהthe latterהָאַחֲרוֹןgloryכְּבוֹדof thisהַזֶּהhouseהַבַּיִתthanמִןthe former,’הָרִאשׁוֹןsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot;צְבָאוֹת‘and in thisוּבַ הַזֶּהplaceמָּקוֹםI will giveאֶתֵּןpeace,’שָׁלוֹםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.”צְבָאוֹת
On the twenty-בְּעֶשְׂרִיםfourthוְאַרְבָּעָהday of the ninth month,לַתְּשִׁיעִיin the secondבִּ שְׁתַּיִםyearשְׁנַתof Darius,לְדָרְיָוֶשׁthe wordדְּבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameהָיָהtoאֶלHaggaiחַגַּיthe prophet,הַנָּבִיאsaying,לֵאמֹר
“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot:צְבָאוֹתAsk,שְׁאַלplease,נָאthe priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםfor instruction,תּוֹרָהsaying,לֵאמֹר
Ifהֵןsomeoneאִישׁcarriesיִשָּׂאholyקֹדֶשׁmeatבְּשַׂרin the edgeבִּכְנַףof his garmentבִּגְדוֹand touchesוְנָגַעwith its edgeבִּכְנָפוֹthe breadאֶל הַלֶּחֶםor the stewוְאֶל הַנָּזִידor the wineוְאֶל הַיַּיִןor oilוְאֶל שֶׁמֶןor anyוְאֶל כָּלfood,מַאֲכָלwill it become holy?”הֲיִקְדָּשׁAnd the priestsוַ הַכֹּהֲנִיםansweredיַּעֲנוּand said,וַיֹּאמְרוּ“No.”לֹא
And Haggaiוַ חַגַּיsaid,יֹּאמֶר“Ifאִםsomeone uncleanטְמֵאby a dead personנֶפֶשׁtouchesיִגַּעanyבְּכָלof these,אֵלֶּהwill it become unclean?”הֲיִטְמָאAnd the priestsוַ הַכֹּהֲנִיםansweredיַּעֲנוּand said,וַיֹּאמְרוּ“It will become unclean.”יִטְמָא
And Haggaiוַ חַגַּיansweredיַּעַןand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Soכֵּןis thisהַזֶּהpeople,הָעָםand soוְכֵןthisהַזֶּהnationהַגּוֹיbefore me,לְפָנַיdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand soוְכֵןallכָּלthe workמַעֲשֵׂהof their hands;יְדֵיהֶםand whatוַאֲשֶׁרthey presentיַקְרִיבוּthereשָׁםis unclean.טָמֵא הוּא
And now,וְעַתָּהset,שִׂימוּplease,נָאyour heartלְבַבְכֶםfromמִןthisהַזֶּהdayהַיּוֹםonward:וָמָעְלָהbeforeמִטֶּרֶםa stoneאֶבֶןwas placedשׂוּםonאֶלa stoneאֶבֶןin the templeבְּהֵיכַלof YHWH,יְהוָה
since they were so:מִהְיוֹתָםone cameבָּאtoאֶלa heapעֲרֵמַתof twenty,עֶשְׂרִיםand there wereוְהָיְתָהten;עֲשָׂרָהone cameבָּאtoאֶלthe wine vatהַיֶּקֶבto draw offלַחְשֹׂףfiftyחֲמִשִּׁיםmeasures,פּוּרָהand there wereוְהָיְתָהtwenty.עֶשְׂרִים
I struckהִכֵּיתִיyouאֶתְכֶםwith blightבַּשִּׁדָּפוֹןand with mildewוּבַיֵּרָקוֹןand with hailוּבַבָּרָדin allכָּלthe workמַעֲשֵׂהof your hands;יְדֵיכֶםand you did not turnוְאֵין אֶתְכֶםto me,אֵלַיdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
Set,שִׂימוּplease,נָאyour heartלְבַבְכֶםfromמִןthisהַזֶּהdayהַיּוֹםonward,וָמָעְלָהfromמִthe twenty-עֶשְׂרִיםfourthוְאַרְבָּעָהdayיּוֹםof the ninth month,לַתְּשִׁיעִיfromלְמִןthe dayהַיּוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרthe templeהֵיכַלof YHWHיְהוָהwas founded;יֻסַּדsetשִׂימוּyour heart.לְבַבְכֶם
Isהַthe seedהַזֶּרַעstillעוֹדin the barn?בַּמְּגוּרָהAnd evenוְעַדthe vineהַגֶּפֶןand the fig treeוְהַתְּאֵנָהand the pomegranateוְהָרִמּוֹןand the olive treeוְעֵץ הַזַּיִתhave notלֹאborne fruit.נָשָׂאFromמִןthisהַזֶּהdayהַיּוֹםI will bless.”אֲבָרֵךְ
And the wordוַ דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיa second timeשֵׁנִיתtoאֶלHaggaiחַגַּיon the twenty-בְּעֶשְׂרִיםfourthוְאַרְבָּעָהday of the month,לַחֹדֶשׁsaying,לֵאמֹר
“SpeakאֱמֹרtoאֶלZerubbabel,זְרֻבָּבֶלgovernorפַּחַתof Judah,יְהוּדָהsaying,לֵאמֹרIאֲנִיwill shakeמַרְעִישׁthe heavensהַשָּׁמַיִםand the earth;וְאֶת הָאָרֶץ
and I will overthrowוְהָפַכְתִּיthe throneכִּסֵּאof kingdoms,מַמְלָכוֹתand I will destroyוְהִשְׁמַדְתִּיthe strengthחֹזֶקof the kingdomsמַמְלְכוֹתof the nations;הַגּוֹיִםand I will overthrowוְהָפַכְתִּיthe chariotמֶרְכָּבָהand its riders;וְרֹכְבֶיהָand the horsesסוּסִיםand their ridersוְרֹכְבֵיהֶםwill go down,וְיָרְדוּeachאִישׁby the swordבְּחֶרֶבof his brother.אָחִיו
On that day,בַּיּוֹם הַהוּאdeclaresנְאֻםYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתI will take you,אֶקָּחֲךָZerubbabelזְרֻבָּבֶלsonבֶּןof Shealtiel,שְׁאַלְתִּיאֵלmy servant,עַבְדִּיdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand I will make youוְשַׂמְתִּיךָlike a seal;כַּחוֹתָםforכִּיyouבְךָI have chosen,בָחַרְתִּיdeclaresנְאֻםYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.”צְבָאוֹת
