Babylon
Today: Babylon ruins, near Hillah, Iraq
A great city on the Euphrates River, in present-day Iraq, about 53 miles (85 km) south of Baghdad.
In its land the languages were confused at Babel (Gen 11:9). Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem and took the people captive there (2 Kgs 25:1-11). Daniel lived there (Dan 1:1-6).
The context
16And to the priests and to all this people I spoke, saying, “Thus says YHWH: Do not listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, ‘Look, the vessels of the house of YHWH will be brought back from Babylon now, shortly,’ for they are prophesying falsehood to you.
17 · This verse (above)
18But if they are prophets, and if the word of YHWH is with them, let them intercede, please, with YHWH Tsevaot, that the vessels that are left in the house of YHWH, and in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem may not go to Babylon.
