And it happenedוַיְהִיin that year,בַּשָּׁנָה הַהִיאat the beginningבְּרֵאשִׁיתof the reignמַמְלֶכֶתof Zedekiahצִדְקִיָּהkingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהin the fourthהָרְבִעִיתyear,בַּשָּׁנָהin the fifthהַחֲמִישִׁיmonth,בַּחֹדֶשׁthat Hananiahחֲנַנְיָהsonבֶןof Azzur,עַזּוּרthe prophet,הַנָּבִיאsaid to me,אָמַר אֵלַיwhoאֲשֶׁרwas from Gibeon,מִגִּבְעוֹןin the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWH,יְהוָהbefore the eyesלְעֵינֵיof the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםand of allוְכָלthe people,הָעָםsaying:לֵאמֹר
“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלsaying:לֵאמֹרI have brokenשָׁבַרְתִּיthe yokeאֶת עֹלof the kingמֶלֶךְof Babylon.בָּבֶל
Withinבְּעוֹדtwo years'שְׁנָתַיִםtimeיָמִיםIאֲנִיwill bring backמֵשִׁיבto this placeאֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּהallאֶת כָּלthe vesselsכְּלֵיof the houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהthatאֲשֶׁרNebuchadnezzarנְבוּכַדנֶאצַּרkingמֶלֶךְof Babylonבָּבֶלtookלָקַחfrom this placeמִן הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּהand carried themוַיְבִיאֵםto Babylon.בָּבֶל
And Jeconiahוְאֶת יְכָנְיָהsonבֶןof Jehoiakim,יְהוֹיָקִיםkingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהand allוְאֶת כָּלthe exilesגָּלוּתof Judahיְהוּדָהwho wentהַבָּאִיםto Babylon,בָּבֶלָהIאֲנִיwill bring backמֵשִׁיבto this place,אֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּהdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהforכִּיI will breakאֶשְׁבֹּרthe yokeאֶת עֹלof the kingמֶלֶךְof Babylon.”בָּבֶל
And Jeremiahוַ יִרְמְיָהthe prophetהַנָּבִיאspokeיֹּאמֶרto Hananiahאֶל חֲנַנְיָהthe prophetהַנָּבִיאbefore the eyesלְעֵינֵיof the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםand before the eyesוּלְעֵינֵיof allכָלthe peopleהָעָםwho were standingהָעֹמְדִיםin the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWH;יְהוָה
and Jeremiahוַ יִרְמְיָהthe prophetהַנָּבִיאsaid:יֹּאמֶר“Amen!אָמֵןMay YHWHיְהוָהdoיַעֲשֶׂהso;כֵּןmay YHWHיְהוָהconfirmיָקֵםyour wordsאֶת דְּבָרֶיךָthatאֲשֶׁרyou have prophesied,נִבֵּאתָto bring backלְהָשִׁיבthe vesselsכְּלֵיof the houseבֵיתof YHWHיְהוָהand allוְכָלthe exilesהַגּוֹלָהfrom Babylonמִבָּבֶלto this place.אֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה
Butאַךְhear,שְׁמַעplease,נָאthis wordהַדָּבָר הַזֶּהthatאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam speakingדֹּבֵרin your earsבְּאָזְנֶיךָand in the earsוּבְאָזְנֵיof allכָּלthe people:הָעָם
The prophetsהַנְּבִיאִיםwhoאֲשֶׁרwereהָיוּbefore meלְפָנַיand before youוּלְפָנֶיךָfrom of oldמִן הָעוֹלָםprophesiedוַיִּנָּבְאוּagainst manyאֶל רַבּוֹתlandsאֲרָצוֹתand against greatוְעַל גְּדֹלוֹתkingdomsמַמְלָכוֹתof warלְמִלְחָמָהand of evilוּלְרָעָהand of pestilence.וּלְדָבֶר
The prophetהַנָּבִיאwhoאֲשֶׁרprophesiesיִנָּבֵאof peace,לְשָׁלוֹםwhen the wordבְּ דְּבַרof the prophetהַנָּבִיאcomes to pass,בֹאthe prophetהַנָּבִיאwill be knownיִוָּדַעwhomאֲשֶׁר וֹYHWHיְהוָהhas trulyבֶּאֱמֶתsent.”שְׁלָח
Then Hananiahוַ חֲנַנְיָהthe prophetהַנָּבִיאtookיִּקַּחthe yokeאֶת הַמּוֹטָהfrom off the neckמֵעַל צַוַּארof Jeremiahיִרְמְיָהthe prophetהַנָּבִיאand broke it.וַיִּשְׁבְּרֵהוּ
And Hananiahוַ חֲנַנְיָהspokeיֹּאמֶרbefore the eyesלְעֵינֵיof allכָלthe people,הָעָםsaying:לֵאמֹר“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהLike thisכָּכָהI will breakאֶשְׁבֹּרthe yokeאֶת עֹלof Nebuchadnezzarנְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּרkingמֶלֶךְof Babylonבָּבֶלwithinבְּעוֹדtwo years'שְׁנָתַיִםtimeיָמִיםfrom off the neckמֵעַל צַוַּארof allכָּלthe nations.”הַגּוֹיִםAnd Jeremiahוַ יִרְמְיָהthe prophetהַנָּבִיאwentיֵּלֶךְhis way.לְדַרְכּוֹ
And the wordוַיְהִי דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcame to Jeremiah,אֶל יִרְמְיָהafter Hananiahאַחֲרֵי חֲנַנְיָהthe prophetהַנָּבִיאhad brokenשְׁבוֹרthe yokeאֶת הַמּוֹטָהfrom off the neckמֵעַל צַוַּארof Jeremiahיִרְמְיָהthe prophet,הַנָּבִיאsaying:לֵאמֹר
“Goהָלוֹךְand sayוְאָמַרְתָּto Hananiah,אֶל חֲנַנְיָהsaying:לֵאמֹר‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהYokesמוֹטֹתof woodעֵץyou have broken,שָׁבָרְתָּbut you will makeוְעָשִׂיתָin their placeתַחְתֵּיהֶןyokesמֹטוֹתof iron.בַּרְזֶל
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel:יִשְׂרָאֵלA yokeעֹלof ironבַּרְזֶלI have putנָתַתִּיon the neckעַל צַוַּארof allכָּלthese nationsהַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּהto serveלַעֲבֹדNebuchadnezzarאֶת נְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּרkingמֶלֶךְof Babylon,בָּבֶלand they will serve him;וַעֲבָדֻהוּand evenוְגַםthe animalsאֶת חַיַּתof the fieldהַשָּׂדֶהI have given him.’”נָתַתִּי לוֹ
And Jeremiahוַ יִרְמְיָהthe prophetהַנָּבִיאsaidיֹּאמֶרto Hananiahאֶל חֲנַנְיָהthe prophet:הַנָּבִיא“Hear,שְׁמַעplease,נָאHananiah!חֲנַנְיָהYHWHיְהוָהdid notלֹאsend you,שְׁלָחֲךָbut youוְאַתָּהhave madeהִבְטַחְתָּthis peopleאֶת הָעָם הַזֶּהtrustהִבְטַחְתָּin falsehood.עַל שָׁקֶר
ThereforeלָכֵןthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהLook, I amהִנְנִיsending youמְשַׁלֵּחֲךָfrom off the faceמֵעַל פְּנֵיof the ground;הָאֲדָמָהthis yearהַשָּׁנָהyouאַתָּהwill die,מֵתforכִּיyou have spokenדִבַּרְתָּrebellionסָרָהagainst YHWH.”אֶל יְהוָה
And Hananiahוַ חֲנַנְיָהthe prophetהַנָּבִיאdiedיָּמָתin that year,בַּשָּׁנָה הַהִיאin the seventhהַשְּׁבִיעִיmonth.בַּחֹדֶשׁ
