At the beginningבְּרֵאשִׁיתof the reignמַמְלֶכֶתof Jehoiakimיְהוֹיָקִםsonבֶּןof Josiah,יֹאושִׁיָּהוּkingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהthis wordהַדָּבָר הַזֶּהcameהָיָהto Jeremiahאֶל יִרְמְיָהfromמֵאֵתYHWH,יְהוָהsaying,לֵאמֹר
ThusכֹּהYHWHיְהוָהsaidאָמַרto me:אֵלַי“Makeעֲשֵׂהfor yourselfלְךָstrapsמוֹסֵרוֹתand yokes,וּמֹטוֹתand put themוּנְתַתָּםon your neck,עַל צַוָּארֶךָ
and send themוְשִׁלַּחְתָּםto the kingאֶל מֶלֶךְof Edom,אֱדוֹםand to the kingוְאֶל מֶלֶךְof Moab,מוֹאָבand to the kingוְאֶל מֶלֶךְof the childrenבְּנֵיof Ammon,עַמּוֹןand to the kingוְאֶל מֶלֶךְof Tyre,צֹרand to the kingוְאֶל מֶלֶךְof Sidon,צִידוֹןby the handבְּיַדof the messengersמַלְאָכִיםwho have comeהַבָּאִיםto Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםto Zedekiahאֶל צִדְקִיָּהוּkingמֶלֶךְof Judah;יְהוּדָה
and commandוְצִוִּיתָthemאֹתָםto say to their masters,אֶל אֲדֹנֵיהֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel:יִשְׂרָאֵלThusכֹּהyou shall sayתֹאמְרוּto your masters:אֶל אֲדֹנֵיכֶם
Iאָנֹכִיmadeעָשִׂיתִיthe earth,אֶת הָאָרֶץthe human beingsאֶת הָאָדָםand the animalsוְאֶת הַבְּהֵמָהthat areאֲשֶׁרon the faceעַל פְּנֵיof the earth,הָאָרֶץby my great powerבְּכֹחִי הַגָּדוֹלand by my outstretched arm,וּבִזְרוֹעִי הַנְּטוּיָהand I give itוּנְתַתִּיהָto whomeverלַאֲשֶׁרit seems rightיָשַׁרin my eyes.בְּעֵינָי
And nowוְעַתָּהIאָנֹכִיhave givenנָתַתִּיallאֶת כָּלthese landsהָאֲרָצוֹת הָאֵלֶּהinto the handבְּיַדof Nebuchadnezzarנְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּרkingמֶלֶךְof Babylon,בָּבֶלmy servant;עַבְדִּיand evenוְגַםthe animalsאֶת חַיַּתof the fieldהַשָּׂדֶהI have givenנָתַתִּיhimלוֹto serve him.לְעָבְדוֹ
And allכָּלthe nationsהַגּוֹיִםwill serveוְעָבְדוּhimאֹתוֹand his sonוְאֶת בְּנוֹand his son's son,וְאֶת בֶּן בְּנוֹuntilעַדthe timeעֵתof his own landאַרְצוֹcomes,בֹּאheהוּאtoo;גַּםand many nationsוְ גּוֹיִם רַבִּיםand greatוּ גְּדֹלִיםkingsמְלָכִיםwill make him their slave.עָבְדוּ בוֹ
And it will be:וְהָיָהthe nationהַגּוֹיor the kingdomוְהַמַּמְלָכָהthatאֲשֶׁרwill notלֹאserveיַעַבְדוּhim,אֹתוֹNebuchadnezzarאֶת נְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּרkingמֶלֶךְof Babylon,בָּבֶלand thatוְאֵת אֲשֶׁרwill notלֹאputיִתֵּןits neckאֶת צַוָּארוֹunder the yokeבְּעֹלof the kingמֶלֶךְof Babylon,בָּבֶלwith the swordבַּחֶרֶבand with the famineוּבָרָעָבand with the pestilenceוּבַדֶּבֶרI will punishאֶפְקֹדthat nation,עַל הַגּוֹי הַהוּאdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהuntilעַדI have finished offתֻּמִּיthemאֹתָםby his hand.בְּיָדוֹ
And you,וְאַתֶּםdo notאַלlistenתִּשְׁמְעוּto your prophets,אֶל נְבִיאֵיכֶםor to your diviners,וְאֶל קֹסְמֵיכֶםor to your dreams,וְאֶל חֲלֹמֹתֵיכֶםor to your soothsayers,וְאֶל עֹנְנֵיכֶםor to your sorcerers,וְאֶל כַּשָּׁפֵיכֶםwhoאֲשֶׁר הֵםare sayingאֹמְרִיםto you,אֲלֵיכֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘You will notלֹאserveתַעַבְדוּthe kingאֶת מֶלֶךְof Babylon.’בָּבֶל
Forכִּיtheyהֵםare prophesyingנִבְּאִיםfalsehoodשֶׁקֶרto you,לָכֶםso as toלְמַעַןremoveהַרְחִיקyouאֶתְכֶםfar fromמֵעַלyour land,אַדְמַתְכֶםand so that I will driveוְהִדַּחְתִּיyou out,אֶתְכֶםand you will perish.וַאֲבַדְתֶּם
But the nationוְהַגּוֹיthatאֲשֶׁרbringsיָבִיאits neckאֶת צַוָּארוֹunder the yokeבְּעֹלof the kingמֶלֶךְof Babylonבָּבֶלand serves him,וַעֲבָדוֹI will leave itוְהִנַּחְתִּיוon its own ground,עַל אַדְמָתוֹdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand it will till itוַעֲבָדָהּand dwellוְיָשַׁבin it.’”בָּהּ
And to Zedekiahוְאֶל צִדְקִיָּהkingמֶלֶךְof JudahיְהוּדָהI spokeדִּבַּרְתִּיaccording to allכְּכָלthese words,הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּהsaying,לֵאמֹר“Bringהָבִיאוּyour necksאֶת צַוְּארֵיכֶםunder the yokeבְּעֹלof the kingמֶלֶךְof Babylon,בָּבֶלand serveוְעִבְדוּhimאֹתוֹand his people,וְעַמּוֹand live.וִחְיוּ
Whyלָמָּהwill you die,תָמוּתוּyouאַתָּהand your people,וְעַמֶּךָby the sword,בַּחֶרֶבby the famine,בָּרָעָבand by the pestilence,וּבַדָּבֶרasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhas spokenדִּבֶּרconcerning the nationאֶל הַגּוֹיthatאֲשֶׁרwill notלֹאserveיַעֲבֹדthe kingאֶת מֶלֶךְof Babylon?בָּבֶל
And do notוְאַלlistenתִּשְׁמְעוּto the wordsאֶל דִּבְרֵיof the prophetsהַנְּבִאִיםwho sayהָאֹמְרִיםto you,אֲלֵיכֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘You will notלֹאserveתַעַבְדוּthe kingאֶת מֶלֶךְof Babylon,’בָּבֶלforכִּיtheyהֵםare prophesyingנִבְּאִיםfalsehoodשֶׁקֶרto you.לָכֶם
ForכִּיI have notלֹאsent them,שְׁלַחְתִּיםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand theyוְהֵםare prophesyingנִבְּאִיםin my nameבִּשְׁמִיfalsely,לַשָּׁקֶרso thatלְמַעַןI will driveהַדִּיחִיyou out,אֶתְכֶםand you will perish,וַאֲבַדְתֶּםyouאַתֶּםand the prophetsוְהַנְּבִאִיםwho prophesyהַנִּבְּאִיםto you.”לָכֶם
And to the priestsוְאֶל הַכֹּהֲנִיםand to allוְאֶל כָּלthis peopleהָעָם הַזֶּהI spoke,דִּבַּרְתִּיsaying,לֵאמֹר“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהDo notאַלlistenתִּשְׁמְעוּto the wordsאֶל דִּבְרֵיof your prophetsנְבִיאֵיכֶםwho prophesyהַנִּבְּאִיםto you,לָכֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘Look,הִנֵּהthe vesselsכְלֵיof the houseבֵיתof YHWHיְהוָהwill be brought backמוּשָׁבִיםfrom Babylonמִבָּבֶלָהnow,עַתָּהshortly,’מְהֵרָהforכִּיtheyהֵמָּהare prophesyingנִבְּאִיםfalsehoodשֶׁקֶרto you.לָכֶם
Do notאַלlistenתִּשְׁמְעוּto them;אֲלֵיהֶםserveעִבְדוּthe kingאֶת מֶלֶךְof Babylonבָּבֶלand live.וִחְיוּWhyלָמָּהshould this cityהָעִיר הַזֹּאתbecomeתִהְיֶהa ruin?חָרְבָּה
But ifוְאִםtheyהֵםare prophets,נְבִאִיםand ifוְאִםthe wordדְּבַרof YHWHיְהוָהisיֵשׁwith them,אִתָּםlet them intercede,יִפְגְּעוּplease,נָאwith YHWHבַּיהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthatלְבִלְתִּיthe vesselsהַכֵּלִיםthat are leftהַנּוֹתָרִיםin the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWH,יְהוָהand in the houseוּבֵיתof the kingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהand in Jerusalemוּבִירוּשָׁלִַםmay not goבֹאוּto Babylon.בָּבֶלָה
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaotצְבָאוֹתconcerning the pillars,אֶל הָעַמֻּדִיםand concerning the Sea,וְעַל הַיָּםand concerning the stands,וְעַל הַמְּכֹנוֹתand concerning the restוְעַל יֶתֶרof the vesselsהַכֵּלִיםthat are leftהַנּוֹתָרִיםin this city,בָּעִיר הַזֹּאת
whichאֲשֶׁרNebuchadnezzarנְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּרkingמֶלֶךְof Babylonבָּבֶלdid notלֹאtakeלְקָחָםwhen he carried into exileבַּגְלוֹתוֹJeconiahאֶת יְכָונְיָהsonבֶןof Jehoiakim,יְהוֹיָקִיםkingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהfrom Jerusalemמִירוּשָׁלִַםto Babylon,בָּבֶלָהand allוְאֵת כָּלthe noblesחֹרֵיof Judahיְהוּדָהand Jerusalem;וִירוּשָׁלִָם
forכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלconcerning the vesselsעַל הַכֵּלִיםthat are leftהַנּוֹתָרִיםin the houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהand in the houseוּבֵיתof the kingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהand in Jerusalem:וִירוּשָׁלִָם
‘To Babylonבָּבֶלָהthey will be brought,יוּבָאוּand thereוְשָׁמָּהthey will remainיִהְיוּuntilעַדthe dayיוֹםI visitפָּקְדִיthem,אֹתָםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH;יְהוָהthen I will bring them upוְהַעֲלִיתִיםand restore themוַהֲשִׁיבֹתִיםto this place.’”אֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה
