And it happened,וַיְהִיwhen Jeremiahכְּ יִרְמְיָהוּhad finishedכַלּוֹתspeakingלְדַבֵּרto allאֶל כָּלthe peopleהָעָםallאֶת כָּלthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof YHWHיְהוָהtheir Elohim,אֱלֹהֵיהֶםwith whichאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהtheir Elohimאֱלֹהֵיהֶםhad sent himשְׁלָחוֹto them,אֲלֵיהֶםallאֵת כָּלthese words,הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה
that Azariahוַ עֲזַרְיָהsonבֶןof Hoshaiahהוֹשַׁעְיָהsaid,יֹּאמֶרand Johananוְיוֹחָנָןsonבֶּןof Kareah,קָרֵחַand allוְכָלthe insolentהַזֵּדִיםmen,הָאֲנָשִׁיםsayingאֹמְרִיםto Jeremiah,אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּ“Youאַתָּהare speakingמְדַבֵּרfalsehood!שֶׁקֶרYHWHיְהוָהour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּhas notלֹאsent youשְׁלָחֲךָto say,לֵאמֹר‘Do notלֹאgoתָבֹאוּto Egyptמִצְרַיִםto reside as aliensלָגוּרthere,’שָׁם
butכִּיBaruchבָּרוּךְsonבֶּןof Neriahנֵרִיָּהis incitingמַסִּיתyouאֹתְךָagainst us,בָּנוּin orderלְמַעַןto giveתֵּתusאֹתָנוּinto the handבְיַדof the Chaldeans,הַכַּשְׂדִּיםto putלְהָמִיתusאֹתָנוּto deathהָמִיתor to carryוּלְהַגְלוֹתusאֹתָנוּinto exileהַגְלוֹתto Babylon.”בָּבֶל
So Johananוְ יוֹחָנָןsonבֶּןof Kareahקָרֵחַand allוְכָלthe chiefsשָׂרֵיof the forcesהַחֲיָלִיםand allוְכָלthe peopleהָעָםdid notלֹאlistenשָׁמַעto the voiceבְּקוֹלof YHWH,יְהוָהto stayלָשֶׁבֶתin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Judah.יְהוּדָה
But Johananוַ יוֹחָנָןsonבֶּןof Kareahקָרֵחַand allוְכָלthe chiefsשָׂרֵיof the forcesהַחֲיָלִיםtookיִּקַּחallאֵת כָּלthe remnantשְׁאֵרִיתof Judahיְהוּדָהwhoאֲשֶׁרhad returnedשָׁבוּfrom allמִכָּלthe nationsהַגּוֹיִםwhereאֲשֶׁר שָׁםthey had been drivenנִדְּחוּto reside as aliensלָגוּרin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Judah:יְהוּדָה
the menאֶת הַגְּבָרִיםand the womenוְאֶת הַנָּשִׁיםand the little onesוְאֶת הַטַּףand the daughtersוְאֶת בְּנוֹתof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְand everyוְאֵת כָּלpersonהַנֶּפֶשׁwhomאֲשֶׁרNebuzaradanנְבוּזַרְאֲדָןthe chiefרַבof the guardטַבָּחִיםhad leftהִנִּיחַwith Gedaliahאֶת גְּדַלְיָהוּsonבֶּןof Ahikamאֲחִיקָםsonבֶּןof Shaphan,שָׁפָןand Jeremiahוְאֵת יִרְמְיָהוּthe prophetהַנָּבִיאand Baruchוְאֶת בָּרוּךְsonבֶּןof Neriah.נֵרִיָּהוּ
And they cameוַיָּבֹאוּinto the landאֶרֶץof Egypt,מִצְרַיִםforכִּיthey did notלֹאlistenשָׁמְעוּto the voiceבְּקוֹלof YHWH;יְהוָהand they cameוַיָּבֹאוּas far asעַדTahpanhes.תַּחְפַּנְחֵס
And the wordוַ דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיto Jeremiahאֶל יִרְמְיָהוּin Tahpanhes,בְּתַחְפַּנְחֵסsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Takeקַחin your handבְּיָדְךָlargeגְּדֹלוֹתstones,אֲבָנִיםand hide themוּטְמַנְתָּםin the mortar,בַּמֶּלֶטin the brickworkבַּמַּלְבֵּןthatאֲשֶׁרis at the entranceבְּפֶתַחof the houseבֵּיתof Pharaohפַּרְעֹהin Tahpanhes,בְּתַחְפַּנְחֵסbefore the eyesלְעֵינֵיof Jewishיְהוּדִיםmen;אֲנָשִׁים
and sayוְאָמַרְתָּto them,אֲלֵיהֶם‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel:יִשְׂרָאֵלLook, Iהִנְנִיam sending,שֹׁלֵחַand I will takeוְלָקַחְתִּיNebuchadnezzarאֶת נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּרkingמֶלֶךְof Babylon,בָּבֶלmy servant,עַבְדִּיand I will setוְשַׂמְתִּיhis throneכִסְאוֹaboveמִמַּעַלthese stonesלָאֲבָנִים הָאֵלֶּהthatאֲשֶׁרI have hidden;טָמָנְתִּיand he will spreadוְנָטָהhis canopyאֶת שַׁפְרִירוֹover them.עֲלֵיהֶם
And he will comeוּבָאand strikeוְהִכָּהthe landאֶת אֶרֶץof Egypt:מִצְרָיִםthoseאֲשֶׁרwho are for death,לַמָּוֶתto death;לַמָּוֶתand thoseוַאֲשֶׁרfor captivity,לַשְּׁבִיto captivity;לַשֶּׁבִיand thoseוַאֲשֶׁרfor the sword,לַחֶרֶבto the sword.לֶחָרֶב
And I will kindleוְהִצַּתִּיa fireאֵשׁin the housesבְּבָתֵּיof the godsאֱלֹהֵיof Egypt,מִצְרַיִםand he will burn themוּשְׂרָפָםand take them captive;וְשָׁבָםand he will wrap himselfוְעָטָהwith the landאֶת אֶרֶץof Egyptמִצְרַיִםasכַּאֲשֶׁרthe shepherdהָרֹעֶהwraps himselfיַעְטֶהwith his garment;אֶת בִּגְדוֹand he will go outוְיָצָאfrom thereמִשָּׁםin peace.בְּשָׁלוֹם
And he will breakוְשִׁבַּרthe standing stonesאֶת מַצְּבוֹתof Beth-shemeshבֵּית שֶׁמֶשׁthatאֲשֶׁרis in the landבְּאֶרֶץof Egypt,מִצְרָיִםand the housesוְאֶת בָּתֵּיof the godsאֱלֹהֵיof Egyptמִצְרַיִםhe will burnיִשְׂרֹףwith fire.’”בָּאֵשׁ
