Then allוַ כָּלthe chiefsשָׂרֵיof the forcesהַחֲיָלִיםcame near,יִּגְּשׁוּand Johananוְיוֹחָנָןsonבֶּןof Kareahקָרֵחַand Jezaniahוִיזַנְיָהsonבֶּןof Hoshaiah,הוֹשַׁעְיָהand allוְכָלthe peopleהָעָםfrom the smallמִקָּטֹןtoוְעַדthe great,גָּדוֹל
and they saidוַיֹּאמְרוּto Jeremiahאֶל יִרְמְיָהוּthe prophet,הַנָּבִיא“Pleaseנָאlet our supplicationתְחִנָּתֵנוּfallתִּפָּלbefore you,לְפָנֶיךָand prayוְהִתְפַּלֵּלfor usבַּעֲדֵנוּto YHWHאֶל יְהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֶיךָforבְּעַדallכָּלthis remnantהַשְּׁאֵרִית הַזֹּאת—forכִּיwe are leftנִשְׁאַרְנוּa fewמְעַטout of many,מֵהַרְבֵּהasכַּאֲשֶׁרyour eyesעֵינֶיךָseeרֹאוֹתus—אֹתָנוּ
that YHWHוְ יְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָmay tellיַגֶּדusלָנוּthe wayאֶת הַדֶּרֶךְin whichאֲשֶׁר בָּהּwe should walkנֵלֶךְand the thingוְאֶת הַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרwe should do.”נַעֲשֶׂה
And Jeremiahוַ יִרְמְיָהוּthe prophetהַנָּבִיאsaidיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵיהֶם“I have heard.שָׁמַעְתִּיLook, Iהִנְנִיwill prayמִתְפַּלֵּלto YHWHאֶל יְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםaccording to your words;כְּדִבְרֵיכֶםand it will be thatוְהָיָהeveryכָּלwordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהanswersיַעֲנֶהyouאֶתְכֶםI will tellאַגִּידyou;לָכֶםI will notלֹאwithholdאֶמְנַעfrom youמִכֶּםa word.”דָּבָר
And theyוְהֵמָּהsaidאָמְרוּto Jeremiah,אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּ“MayיְהִיYHWHיְהוָהbeיְהִיagainst usבָּנוּa trueאֱמֶתand faithfulוְנֶאֱמָןwitnessלְעֵדifאִםwe do notלֹאdoנַעֲשֶׂהsoכֵּןaccording to everyכְּכָלwordהַדָּבָרwith whichאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָsends youיִשְׁלָחֲךָto us.אֵלֵינוּ
Whetherאִםgoodטוֹבorוְאִםbad,רָעto the voiceבְּקוֹלof YHWHיְהוָהour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵינוּto whomאֲשֶׁר אֵלָיוweאֲנַחְנוּare sendingשֹׁלְחִיםyou,אֹתְךָwe will listen,נִשְׁמָעso thatלְמַעַן אֲשֶׁרit may go wellיִיטַבwith usלָנוּwhenכִּיwe listenנִשְׁמַעto the voiceבְּקוֹלof YHWHיְהוָהour Elohim.”אֱלֹהֵינוּ
And it happenedוַיְהִיat the endמִקֵּץof tenעֲשֶׂרֶתdays,יָמִיםand the wordוַ דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיto Jeremiah.אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּ
And he calledוַיִּקְרָאJohananאֶל יוֹחָנָןsonבֶּןof Kareahקָרֵחַand allוְאֶל כָּלthe chiefsשָׂרֵיof the forcesהַחֲיָלִיםwho wereאֲשֶׁרwith him,אִתּוֹand allוּלְכָלthe peopleהָעָםfrom the smallלְמִקָּטֹןtoוְעַדthe great,גָּדוֹל
and he saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵיהֶם“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלto whomאֲשֶׁר אֵלָיוyou sentשְׁלַחְתֶּםmeאֹתִיto letלְהַפִּילyour supplicationתְּחִנַּתְכֶםfallהַפִּילbefore him:לְפָנָיו
Ifאִםyou will indeed stayשׁוֹב תֵּשְׁבוּin this land,בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאתthen I will buildוּבָנִיתִיyouאֶתְכֶםand notוְלֹאdemolish you,אֶהֱרֹסand I will plantוְנָטַעְתִּיyouאֶתְכֶםand notוְלֹאuproot you;אֶתּוֹשׁforכִּיI have relentedנִחַמְתִּיconcerningאֶלthe evilהָרָעָהthatאֲשֶׁרI have doneעָשִׂיתִיto you.לָכֶם
Do notאַלbe afraidתִּירְאוּofמִפְּנֵיthe kingמֶלֶךְof Babylon,בָּבֶלwhomאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםare afraid of;יְרֵאִים מִפָּנָיוdo notאַלbe afraidתִּירְאוּof him,מִמֶּנּוּdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהforכִּיwith youאִתְּכֶםam Iאָנִיto saveלְהוֹשִׁיעַyouאֶתְכֶםand to rescueוּלְהַצִּילyouאֶתְכֶםfrom his hand.מִיָּדוֹ
And I will grantוְאֶתֵּןyouלָכֶםcompassion,רַחֲמִיםand he will have compassionוְרִחַםon youאֶתְכֶםand letוְהֵשִׁיבyouאֶתְכֶםreturnהֵשִׁיבto your land.אֶל אַדְמַתְכֶם
But ifוְאִםyouאַתֶּםsay,אֹמְרִים‘We will notלֹאstayנֵשֵׁבin this land,’בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאתso as notלְבִלְתִּיto listenשְׁמֹעַto the voiceבְּקוֹלof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵיכֶם
saying,לֵאמֹר‘No,לֹאbutכִּיto the landאֶרֶץof Egyptמִצְרַיִםwe will go,נָבוֹאwhereאֲשֶׁרwe will notלֹאseeנִרְאֶהwar,מִלְחָמָהand the soundוְקוֹלof the hornשׁוֹפָרwe will notלֹאhear,נִשְׁמָעand for breadוְלַלֶּחֶםwe will notלֹאbe hungry,נִרְעָבand thereוְשָׁםwe will stay’;נֵשֵׁב
now,וְעַתָּהtherefore,לָכֵןhearשִׁמְעוּthe wordדְבַרof YHWH,יְהוָהremnantשְׁאֵרִיתof Judah:יְהוּדָהThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel:יִשְׂרָאֵלIfאִםyouאַתֶּםreally setשׂוֹם תְּשִׂמוּןyour facesפְּנֵיכֶםto goלָבֹאto Egypt,מִצְרַיִםand goוּבָאתֶםto reside as aliensלָגוּרthere,שָׁם
then it will be thatוְהָיְתָהthe swordהַחֶרֶבthatאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםare afraid ofיְרֵאִים מִמֶּנָּהwill overtakeתַּשִּׂיגyouאֶתְכֶםthere,שָׁםin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Egypt;מִצְרָיִםand the famineוְהָרָעָבthatאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםare anxious aboutדֹּאֲגִים מִמֶּנּוּwill clingיִדְבַּקafter youאַחֲרֵיכֶםthereשָׁםin Egypt,מִצְרַיִםand thereוְשָׁםyou will die.תָּמֻתוּ
And it will be thatוְיִהְיוּallכָלthe menהָאֲנָשִׁיםwhoאֲשֶׁרhave setשָׂמוּtheir facesאֶת פְּנֵיהֶםto goלָבוֹאto Egyptמִצְרַיִםto reside as aliensלָגוּרthereשָׁםwill dieיָמוּתוּby the sword,בַּחֶרֶבby famine,בָּרָעָבand by pestilence;וּבַדָּבֶרand they will haveוְ יִהְיֶה לָהֶםnoלֹאsurvivorשָׂרִידor fugitiveוּפָלִיטfromמִפְּנֵיthe evilהָרָעָהthatאֲשֶׁרIאֲנִיam bringingמֵבִיאon them.עֲלֵיהֶם
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel:יִשְׂרָאֵלAsכַּאֲשֶׁרmy angerאַפִּיand my furyוַחֲמָתִיwere poured outנִתַּךְon the inhabitantsעַל יֹשְׁבֵיof Jerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלִַםsoכֵּןmy furyחֲמָתִיwill be poured outתִּתַּךְon youעֲלֵיכֶםwhen you goבְּבֹאֲכֶםto Egypt,מִצְרָיִםand you will becomeוִהְיִיתֶםan imprecationלְאָלָהand a horrorוּלְשַׁמָּהand a curseוְלִקְלָלָהand a reproach,וּלְחֶרְפָּהand you will notוְלֹאseeתִרְאוּthis placeאֶת הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּהagain.עוֹד
YHWHיְהוָהhas spokenדִּבֶּרagainst you,עֲלֵיכֶםremnantשְׁאֵרִיתof Judah:יְהוּדָה‘Do notאַלgoתָּבֹאוּto Egypt.’מִצְרָיִםKnow for certainיָדֹעַ תֵּדְעוּthatכִּיI have warnedהַעִידֹתִיyouבָכֶםtoday.הַיּוֹם
Forכִּיyou have ledהִתְעֵיתֶםyourselvesastrayהִתְעֵיתֶםat the cost of your souls,בְּנַפְשׁוֹתֵיכֶםwhenכִּיyouאַתֶּםsentשְׁלַחְתֶּםmeאֹתִיto YHWHאֶל יְהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵיכֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘Prayהִתְפַּלֵּלfor usבַּעֲדֵנוּto YHWHאֶל יְהוָהour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵינוּand according to allוּכְכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּsays,יֹאמַרsoכֵּןtellהַגֶּדus,לָנוּand we will do it.’וְעָשִׂינוּ
And I have toldוָאַגִּדyouלָכֶםtoday,הַיּוֹםbut you have notוְלֹאlistenedשְׁמַעְתֶּםto the voiceבְּקוֹלof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםin anythingוּלְכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרhe has sent meשְׁלָחַנִיto you.אֲלֵיכֶם
So now,וְעַתָּהknow for certainיָדֹעַ תֵּדְעוּthatכִּיby the sword,בַּחֶרֶבby famine,בָּרָעָבand by pestilenceוּבַדֶּבֶרyou will dieתָּמוּתוּin the placeבַּמָּקוֹםwhereאֲשֶׁרyou desireחֲפַצְתֶּםto goלָבוֹאto reside as aliensלָגוּרthere.”שָׁם
