The wordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרJeremiahיִרְמְיָהוּthe prophetהַנָּבִיאspokeדִּבֶּרto Baruchאֶל בָּרוּךְsonבֶּןof Neriah,נֵרִיָּהwhen he wroteבְּכָתְבוֹthese wordsאֶת הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּהin a bookעַל סֵפֶרfrom the mouthמִפִּיof Jeremiah,יִרְמְיָהוּin the fourth yearבַּשָּׁנָה הָרְבִעִיתof Jehoiakimלִיהוֹיָקִיםsonבֶּןof Josiah,יֹאשִׁיָּהוּkingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהsaying,לֵאמֹר
“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלconcerning you,עָלֶיךָBaruch:בָּרוּךְ
You said,אָמַרְתָּ‘Woeאוֹיnowנָאto me,לִיforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהhas addedיָסַףafflictionיָגוֹןto my pain;עַל מַכְאֹבִיI am wearyיָגַעְתִּיwith my sighing,בְּאַנְחָתִיand restוּמְנוּחָהI have notלֹאfound.’מָצָאתִי
Thusכֹּהyou shall sayתֹּאמַרto him,אֵלָיו‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהLook,הִנֵּהwhatאֲשֶׁרI have built,בָּנִיתִיIאֲנִיam demolishing,הֹרֵסand whatוְאֵת אֲשֶׁרI have planted,נָטַעְתִּיIאֲנִיam uprooting;נֹתֵשׁand this I do toוְthe wholeאֶת כָּלlandהָאָרֶץitself.הִיא
And you,וְאַתָּהare you seekingתְּבַקֶּשׁfor yourselfלְךָgreat things?גְדֹלוֹתDo notאַלseek them;תְּבַקֵּשׁforכִּיlook, Iהִנְנִיam bringingמֵבִיאevilרָעָהon allעַל כָּלflesh,בָּשָׂרdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH;יְהוָהbut I will giveוְנָתַתִּיyouלְךָyour lifeאֶת נַפְשְׁךָas spoilלְשָׁלָלin allעַל כָּלthe placesהַמְּקֹמוֹתwhereאֲשֶׁר שָׁםyou go.’”תֵּלֶךְ
