that Joshuaוַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַsummonedיִּקְרָאallלְכָלIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלits elders,לִזְקֵנָיוits heads,וּלְרָאשָׁיוits judges,וּלְשֹׁפְטָיוand its supervisors,וּלְשֹׁטְרָיוand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵהֶם“Iאֲנִיam old,זָקַנְתִּיadvancedבָּאתִיin days.בַּיָּמִים
And youוְאַתֶּםhave seenרְאִיתֶםallכָּלthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםhas doneעָשָׂהto allלְכָלtheseהָאֵלֶּהnationsהַגּוֹיִםbecause of you,מִפְּנֵיכֶםforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵיכֶםheהוּאisthe one who fightsהַנִּלְחָםfor you.לָכֶם
See,רְאוּI have allottedהִפַּלְתִּיto youלָכֶםtheseהָאֵלֶּהnationsהַגּוֹיִםthat remainהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםas an inheritanceבְּנַחֲלָהfor your tribes,לְשִׁבְטֵיכֶםfromמִןthe Jordan,הַיַּרְדֵּןwith allוְכָלthe nationsהַגּוֹיִםthatאֲשֶׁרI have cut off,הִכְרַתִּיto the Greatוְ הַגָּדוֹלSeaהַיָּםtoward the settingמְבוֹאof the sun.הַשָּׁמֶשׁ
And YHWHוַיהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵיכֶםheהוּאwill push them backיֶהְדֳּפֵםbefore youמִפְּנֵיכֶםand dispossessוְהוֹרִישׁthemאֹתָםbefore you,מִלִּפְנֵיכֶםand you shall take possessionוִירִשְׁתֶּםof their land,אַרְצָםjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםspokeדִּבֶּרto you.לָכֶם
And be veryוַ מְאֹדstrongחֲזַקְתֶּםto keepלִשְׁמֹרand to doוְלַעֲשׂוֹתallכָּלthat is writtenהַכָּתוּבin the bookבְּסֵפֶרof the instructionתּוֹרַתof Moses,מֹשֶׁהnotלְבִלְתִּיturning asideסוּרfrom itמִמֶּנּוּto the rightיָמִיןor to the left,וּשְׂמֹאול
so that you do notלְבִלְתִּיgoבוֹאamongבַּtheseהָאֵלֶּהnations,גּוֹיִםthoseהָאֵלֶּהthat remainהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםwith you;אִתְּכֶםand the nameוּבְשֵׁםof their godsאֱלֹהֵיהֶםyou shall notלֹאmention,תַזְכִּירוּnorוְלֹאmake anyone swear by it,תַשְׁבִּיעוּnorוְלֹאserve them,תַעַבְדוּםnorוְלֹאbow downתִשְׁתַּחֲווּto them;לָהֶם
butכִּי אִםto YHWHבַּיהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyou shall cling,תִּדְבָּקוּasכַּאֲשֶׁרyou have doneעֲשִׂיתֶםtoעַדthisהַזֶּהday.הַיּוֹם
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהhas dispossessedיּוֹרֶשׁbefore youמִפְּנֵיכֶםgreatגְּדֹלִיםand strongוַעֲצוּמִיםnations;גּוֹיִםand as for you,וְאַתֶּםnoלֹאmanאִישׁhas stoodעָמַדbefore youבִּפְנֵיכֶםtoעַדthisהַזֶּהday.הַיּוֹם
Oneאֶחָדmanאִישׁof youמִכֶּםpursuesיִרְדָּףa thousand,אָלֶףforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵיכֶםheהוּאisthe one who fightsהַנִּלְחָםfor you,לָכֶםjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרhe spokeדִּבֶּרto you.לָכֶם
So be veryוְ מְאֹדcareful,נִשְׁמַרְתֶּםfor your souls,לְנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶםto loveלְאַהֲבָהYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim.אֱלֹהֵיכֶם
Forכִּיifאִםyou do indeedשׁוֹבturn backתָּשׁוּבוּand clingוּדְבַקְתֶּםto the restבְּיֶתֶרof theseהָאֵלֶּהnations,הַגּוֹיִםthoseהָאֵלֶּהthat remainהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםwith you,אִתְּכֶםand intermarryוְהִתְחַתַּנְתֶּםwith them,בָּהֶםand go inוּבָאתֶםamong them,בָּהֶםand theyוְהֵםamong you,בָּכֶם
knowתֵּדְעוּfor certainיָדוֹעַthatכִּיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםwill notלֹאcontinueיוֹסִיףto dispossessלְהוֹרִישׁtheseהָאֵלֶּהnationsהַגּוֹיִםbefore you;מִלִּפְנֵיכֶםand they shall beוְהָיוּfor youלָכֶםa snareלְפַחand a trap,וּלְמוֹקֵשׁa whipוּלְשֹׁטֵטon your sidesבְּצִדֵּיכֶםand thornsוְלִצְנִנִיםin your eyes,בְּעֵינֵיכֶםuntilעַדyou perishאֲבָדְכֶםfrom offמֵעַלthisהַזֹּאתgoodהַטּוֹבָהlandהָאֲדָמָהthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםhas givenנָתַןyou.לָכֶם
And look,וְהִנֵּהIאָנֹכִיam goingהוֹלֵךְtodayהַיּוֹםthe wayבְּדֶרֶךְof allכָּלthe earth.הָאָרֶץAnd knowוִידַעְתֶּםwith allבְּכָלyour heartלְבַבְכֶםand with allוּבְכָלyour soulנַפְשְׁכֶםthatכִּיnotלֹאoneאֶחָדwordדָּבָרhas fallenנָפַלof allמִכֹּלthe goodהַטּוֹבִיםwordsהַדְּבָרִיםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםspokeדִּבֶּרconcerning you;עֲלֵיכֶםallהַכֹּלhave comeבָּאוּto you;לָכֶםnotלֹאoneאֶחָדwordדָּבָרof themמִמֶּנּוּhas fallen.נָפַל
And it shall beוְהָיָהthat just asכַּאֲשֶׁרallכָּלthe goodהַטּוֹבwordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםspokeדִּבֶּרto youאֲלֵיכֶםhas comeבָּאupon you,עֲלֵיכֶםsoכֵּןYHWHיְהוָהwill bringיָבִיאupon youעֲלֵיכֶםallכָּלthe evilהָרָעword,הַדָּבָרuntilעַדhe has destroyedהַשְׁמִידוֹyouאוֹתְכֶםfrom offמֵעַלthisהַזֹּאתgoodהַטּוֹבָהlandהָאֲדָמָהthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםhas givenנָתַןyou.לָכֶם
When you transgressבְּעָבְרְכֶםthe covenantבְּרִיתof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםthatאֲשֶׁרhe commandedצִוָּהyou,אֶתְכֶםand goוַהֲלַכְתֶּםand serveוַעֲבַדְתֶּםotherאֲחֵרִיםgodsאֱלֹהִיםand bow downוְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶםto them,לָהֶםthen the angerוְ אַףof YHWHיְהוָהwill burnחָרָהagainst you,בָּכֶםand you will perishוַאֲבַדְתֶּםquicklyמְהֵרָהfrom offמֵעַלthe goodהַטּוֹבָהlandהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרhe has givenנָתַןyou.”לָכֶם
