John 15:4–5
Jesus, the vine, teaches that fruit comes from staying in him
Study it word by word4Remain in me, and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.
5I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him, he bears much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.
In its context
2Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that bears fruit he prunes, so that it may bear more fruit.
3You are already clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.
…
6If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out like the branch and withers; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
7If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
