An evildoerמֵרַעpays attentionמַקְשִׁיבto a lipעַל שְׂפַתof wickedness;אָוֶןa liarשֶׁקֶרgives earמֵזִיןtoעַלa tongueלְשׁוֹןof calamities.הַוֺּת
Whoever mocksלֹעֵגthe poorלָרָשׁreproachesחֵרֵףhis Maker;עֹשֵׂהוּwhoever rejoicesשָׂמֵחַat calamityלְאֵידwill notלֹאgo unpunished.יִנָּקֶה
The crownעֲטֶרֶתof the oldזְקֵנִיםare the sonsבְּנֵיof their sons,בָנִיםand the beautyוְתִפְאֶרֶתof sonsבָּנִיםare their fathers.אֲבוֹתָם
A lipשְׂפַתof excellenceיֶתֶרis notלֹאfittingנָאוָהfor a fool,לְנָבָלhow much lessאַף כִּיfor a nobleלְנָדִיבa lipשְׂפַתof falsehood.שָׁקֶר
A stoneאֶבֶןof favorחֵןis a bribeהַשֹּׁחַדin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof its owner;בְעָלָיוwhereverאֶל כָּל אֲשֶׁרhe turns,יִפְנֶהhe prospers.יַשְׂכִּיל
Whoever coversמְכַסֶּהa transgressionפֶּשַׁעseeksמְבַקֵּשׁlove,אַהֲבָהbut whoever repeatsוְשֹׁנֶהa matterבְדָבָרseparatesמַפְרִידclose friends.אַלּוּף
A rebukeגְּעָרָהgoes deeperתֵּחַת מֵinto the discerningבְמֵבִיןthan a hundredמֵאָהblowsהַכּוֹתinto the senseless.כְּסִיל
The evil manרָעseeksיְבַקֶּשׁonlyאַךְrebellion,מְרִיand a cruelאַכְזָרִיmessengerוּמַלְאָךְwill be sentיְשֻׁלַּחagainst him.בּוֹ
Let a manבְּאִישׁmeetפָּגוֹשׁa bearדֹּבrobbed of her cubs,שַׁכּוּלand notוְאַלa senseless manכְּסִילin his folly.בְּאִוַּלְתּוֹ
Whoever returnsמֵשִׁיבevilרָעָהforתַּחַתgood,טוֹבָהevilרָעָהwill notלֹאdepartתָמוּשׁfrom his house.מִבֵּיתוֹ
Like releasingפּוֹטֵרwaterמַיִםis the beginningרֵאשִׁיתof strife;מָדוֹןso beforeוְלִפְנֵיthe disputeהָרִיבbreaks out,הִתְגַּלַּעleave it.נְטוֹשׁ
Whoever declares the wicked righteousמַצְדִּיק רָשָׁעand whoever declares the righteous wicked,וּמַרְשִׁיעַ צַדִּיקan abominationתּוֹעֲבַתto YHWHיְהוָהare bothגַּם שְׁנֵיof them.הֶם
Whyלָמָּהis thisזֶּהpriceמְחִירin the handבְּיַדof the senselessכְּסִילto acquireלִקְנוֹתwisdom,חָכְמָהwhen senseוְלֶבthere is none?אָיִן
At allבְּכָלtimesעֵתthe friendהָרֵעַloves,אֹהֵבand a brotherוְאָחis bornיִוָּלֵדfor distress.לְצָרָה
A manאָדָםlackingחֲסַרin senseלֵבstrikesתּוֹקֵעַthe palm,כָּףbecoming suretyעֹרֵב עֲרֻבָּהbeforeלִפְנֵיhis neighbor.רֵעֵהוּ
Whoever lovesאֹהֵבtransgressionפֶּשַׁעlovesאֹהֵבstrife;מַצָּהwhoever raises highמַגְבִּיהַּhis doorפִּתְחוֹseeksמְבַקֶּשׁa breaking.שָׁבֶר
One crookedעִקֶּשׁof heartלֵבwill notלֹאfindיִמְצָאgood,טוֹבand one perverseוְנֶהְפָּךְin his tongueבִּלְשׁוֹנוֹwill fallיִפּוֹלinto evil.בְּרָעָה
Whoever fathersיֹלֵדa senseless sonכְּסִילdoes it to his grief,לְתוּגָה לוֹand the fatherאֲבִיof a foolנָבָלwill notוְלֹאrejoice.יִשְׂמַח
A gladשָׂמֵחַheartלֵבmakes goodיֵיטִבmedicine,גֵּהָהbut a crushedנְכֵאָהspiritוְרוּחַdries upתְּיַבֶּשׁthe bone.גָּרֶם
A bribeשֹׁחַדfrom the bosomמֵחֵיקthe wickedרָשָׁעtakes,יִקָּחto turn asideלְהַטּוֹתthe pathsאָרְחוֹתof justice.מִשְׁפָּט
Wisdomחָכְמָהis beforeאֶת פְּנֵיthe discerning,מֵבִיןbut the eyesוְעֵינֵיof the senselessכְסִילare on the endsבִּקְצֵהof the earth.אָרֶץ
A senselessכְּסִילsonבֵּןis vexationכַּעַסto his fatherלְאָבִיוand bitternessוּמֶמֶרto the one who bore him.לְיוֹלַדְתּוֹ
Also,גַּםto fineעֲנוֹשׁthe righteousלַצַּדִּיקis notלֹאgood,טוֹבor to strikeלְהַכּוֹתnoblesנְדִיבִיםforעַלtheir uprightness.יֹשֶׁר
Whoever holds backחוֹשֵׂךְhis sayingsאֲמָרָיוknowsיוֹדֵעַknowledge,דָּעַתand one coolיְקַרof spiritרוּחַis a manאִישׁof insight.תְּבוּנָה
Evenגַּםa foolאֱוִילwho keeps silentמַחֲרִישׁis consideredיֵחָשֵׁבwise;חָכָםwhoever shutsאֹטֵםhis lips,שְׂפָתָיוdiscerning.נָבוֹן
