7-day plan: Faithfulness
God keeps his word and his covenant, even when his people fail.
One passage a day, with a question to think it over. Your progress stays on this device, no account needed.
Day 1 · He Keeps His Promises
Balaam admits God is not a man that he should lie or change his mind
El is not a man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should relent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

Day 2 · His Covenant
After the flood, God makes a covenant with Noah and every living creature
And Elohim spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, “And I, look, I am establishing my covenant with you and with your offspring after you, and with every living being that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every animal of the earth with you, of all that came out of the ark, to every animal of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you: and never again will all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” And Elohim said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I am giving between me and you and every living being that is with you, for generations forever: my bow I have put in the cloud, and it will be for a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. And it will happen, when I bring clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the cloud, that I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living being of all flesh; and the waters will never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow will be in the cloud, and I will see it to remember the eternal covenant between Elohim and every living being of all flesh that is on the earth.” And Elohim said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

Day 3 · Faithful When We Are Not
Even in the land of their enemies, God says he will not break his covenant
Yet even for all this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them and I will not loathe them so as to destroy them completely and break my covenant with them; for I am YHWH their Elohim. But I will remember for them the covenant with their forefathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, to be their Elohim. I am YHWH.

Day 4 · His Mercies Are New
Amid the ruins, the poet recalls: they are new every morning
This I will bring back to my heart; therefore I will await. The loyal loves of YHWH: indeed we have not been consumed, for his mercies have not come to an end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. My portion is YHWH, says my soul; therefore I will await him.

Day 5 · He Keeps His Promises
To childless Abram, God shows the stars and promises descendants
After these things the word of YHWH came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram; I am a shield to you; your reward will be very great.” But Abram said, “Adonai YHWH, what will you give me, while I go on childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said, “Look, to me you have not given offspring; and look, one born in my house will be my heir.” And look, the word of YHWH came to him, saying, “This one will not be your heir; but one who will come out from your own body, he will be your heir.” He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And he said to him, “So will your offspring be.” And he believed in YHWH, and he counted it to him as righteousness.

Day 6 · His Covenant
God establishes his covenant with Abram and changes his name
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, YHWH appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am El Shaddai; walk before me and be blameless. I will set my covenant between me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly.” Abram fell on his face, and Elohim spoke with him, saying, “As for me, look, my covenant is with you, and you will be the father of a multitude of nations. No longer will your name be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. I will make you fruitful exceedingly, and I will make you into nations, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations as an eternal covenant, to be Elohim to you and to your offspring after you.

Day 7 · Faithful When We Are Not
Israel confesses its stubbornness and recalls that God did not abandon them
But they and our fathers acted with arrogance and hardened their neck, and did not listen to your commandments. They refused to listen, and did not remember your wonders that you had done with them; and they hardened their neck and appointed a head to return to their servitude in their rebellion. But you are an Eloah of pardons, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in loyal love, and you did not abandon them. Even when they made for themselves a calf of cast metal and said, ‘This is your god who brought you up out of Egypt,’ and committed great acts of contempt, you, in your many mercies, did not abandon them in the wilderness: the pillar of cloud did not depart from over them by day, to lead them on the way, nor the pillar of fire by night, to light for them the way in which they should go. And your good spirit you gave to give them understanding, and your manna you did not withhold from their mouth, and water you gave them for their thirst. Forty years you sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing; their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell.
