And the boyוְהַנַּעַרSamuelשְׁמוּאֵלwas ministeringמְשָׁרֵתto YHWHאֶת יְהוָהbeforeלִפְנֵיEli.עֵלִיAnd the wordוּדְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהwasהָיָהrareיָקָרin thoseבַּ הָהֵםdays;יָּמִיםthere was noאֵיןvisionחָזוֹןbreaking through.נִפְרָץ
And it happenedוַיְהִיon thatבַּ הַהוּאday,יּוֹםas Eliוְעֵלִיwas lying downשֹׁכֵבin his placeבִּמְקֹמוֹ(and his eyesוְעֵינָיוhad begunהֵחֵלּוּto grow dim;כֵהוֹתhe could notלֹא יוּכַלsee),לִרְאוֹת
and the lampוְנֵרof Elohimאֱלֹהִיםhad not yetטֶרֶםgone out,יִכְבֶּהand Samuelוּשְׁמוּאֵלwas lying downשֹׁכֵבin the templeבְּהֵיכַלof YHWH,יְהוָהwhereאֲשֶׁר שָׁםthe arkאֲרוֹןof Elohim was,אֱלֹהִים
YHWHיְהוָהcalledוַיִּקְרָאtoאֶלSamuel,שְׁמוּאֵלand he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Here I am.”הִנֵּנִי
And he ranוַיָּרָץtoאֶלEliעֵלִיand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Here I am,הִנְנִיforכִּיyou calledקָרָאתָme.”לִּיBut he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“I did notלֹאcall;קָרָאתִיgo back,שׁוּבlie down.”שְׁכָבSo he wentוַיֵּלֶךְand lay down.וַיִּשְׁכָּב
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהcalledיֹּסֶף קְרֹאagain,עוֹד“Samuel!”שְׁמוּאֵלAnd Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלgot upוַיָּקָםand wentוַיֵּלֶךְtoאֶלEliעֵלִיand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Here I am,הִנְנִיforכִּיyou calledקָרָאתָme.”לִיBut he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“I did notלֹאcall,קָרָאתִיmy son;בְנִיgo back,שׁוּבlie down.”שְׁכָב
Now Samuelוּשְׁמוּאֵלdid not yetטֶרֶםknowיָדַעYHWH,אֶת יְהוָהandוְthe wordדְּבַרof YHWHיְהוָהhad not yetטֶרֶםbeen revealedיִגָּלֶהto him.אֵלָיו
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהcalledיֹּסֶף קְרֹאSamuelשְׁמוּאֵלagain, the third time.בַּשְּׁלִשִׁיתAnd he got upוַיָּקָםand wentוַיֵּלֶךְtoאֶלEliעֵלִיand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Here I am,הִנְנִיforכִּיyou calledקָרָאתָme.”לִיThen Eliוַ עֵלִיunderstoodיָּבֶןthatכִּיYHWHיְהוָהwas callingקֹרֵאthe boy.לַנָּעַר
And Eliוַ עֵלִיsaidיֹּאמֶרto Samuel,לִשְׁמוּאֵל“Go,לֵךְlie down;שְׁכָבand it will beוְהָיָהthat ifאִםhe callsיִקְרָאyou,אֵלֶיךָyou shall say,וְאָמַרְתָּ‘Speak,דַּבֵּרYHWH,יְהוָהforכִּיyour servantעַבְדֶּךָis listening.’”שֹׁמֵעַSo Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלwentוַיֵּלֶךְand lay downוַיִּשְׁכַּבin his place.בִּמְקוֹמוֹ
And YHWHיְהוָהcameוַיָּבֹאand stood thereוַיִּתְיַצַּבand calledוַיִּקְרָאas at other times,כְפַעַם בְּפַעַם“Samuel!שְׁמוּאֵלSamuel!”שְׁמוּאֵלAnd Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלsaid,וַיֹּאמֶר“Speak,דַּבֵּרforכִּיyour servantעַבְדֶּךָis listening.”שֹׁמֵעַ
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלSamuel,שְׁמוּאֵל“Look,הִנֵּהIאָנֹכִיam doingעֹשֶׂהa thingדָבָרin Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלat whichאֲשֶׁרbothשְׁתֵּיearsאָזְנָיוof everyoneכָּלwho hears itשֹׁמְעוֹwill tingle.תְּצִלֶּינָה
On thatבַּ הַהוּאdayיּוֹםI will carry outאָקִיםagainstאֶלEliעֵלִיallאֵת כָּלthatאֲשֶׁרI have spokenדִּבַּרְתִּיconcerningאֶלhis house,בֵּיתוֹfrom beginningהָחֵלto end.וְכַלֵּה
And I have toldוְהִגַּדְתִּיhimלוֹthatכִּיIאֲנִיam judgingשֹׁפֵטhis houseאֶת בֵּיתוֹforeverעַד עוֹלָםfor the iniquityבַּעֲוֺןthatאֲשֶׁרhe knew,יָדַעbecauseכִּיhis sonsבָּנָיוwere bringing a curseמְקַלְלִיםon themselves,לָהֶםand he did notוְלֹאrestrainכִהָהthem.בָּם
ThereforeוְלָכֵןI have swornנִשְׁבַּעְתִּיto the houseלְבֵיתof Eliעֵלִיthatאִםthe iniquityעֲוֺןof the houseבֵּיתof Eliעֵלִיshall not be expiatedיִתְכַּפֵּרby sacrificeבְּזֶבַחor by offeringוּבְמִנְחָהforever.”עַד עוֹלָם
And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלlayוַיִּשְׁכַּבuntilעַדthe morning;הַבֹּקֶרthen he openedוַיִּפְתַּחthe doorsאֶת דַּלְתוֹתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָהAnd Samuelוּשְׁמוּאֵלwas afraidיָרֵאto tellמֵהַגִּידthe visionאֶת הַמַּרְאָהtoאֶלEli.עֵלִי
But Eliוַ עֵלִיcalledיִּקְרָאSamuelאֶת שְׁמוּאֵלand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Samuel,שְׁמוּאֵלmy son.”בְּנִיAnd he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Here I am.”הִנֵּנִי
And he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Whatמָהisthe wordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרhe spokeדִּבֶּרto you?אֵלֶיךָDo notאַלhide itתְכַחֵדfrom me,מִמֶּנִּיplease.נָאSoכֹּהmay Elohimאֱלֹהִיםdoיַעֲשֶׂהto youלְּךָand moreוְכֹהalso,יוֹסִיףifאִםyou hideתְּכַחֵדfrom meמִמֶּנִּיa wordדָּבָרof allמִכָּלthe wordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרhe spokeדִּבֶּרto you.”אֵלֶיךָ
So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלtoldוַיַּגֶּדhimלוֹallאֶת כָּלthe wordsהַדְּבָרִיםand did notוְלֹאhide anythingכִחֵדfrom him.מִמֶּנּוּAnd he said,וַיֹּאמַר“HeהוּאisYHWH;יְהוָהlet him doיַעֲשֶׂהwhat is goodהַטּוֹבin his eyes.”בְּעֵינָו
And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלgrew up,וַיִּגְדַּלand YHWHוַיהוָהwasהָיָהwith himעִמּוֹand let noneוְלֹא מִכָּלof his wordsדְּבָרָיוfallהִפִּילto the ground.אָרְצָה
And allוַ כָּלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלfrom DanמִדָּןtoוְעַדBeershebaבְּאֵר שָׁבַעknewיֵּדַעthatכִּיSamuelשְׁמוּאֵלwas confirmedנֶאֱמָןas a prophetלְנָבִיאof YHWH.לַיהוָה
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהappearedהֵרָאֹהagainיֹּסֶף לְat Shiloh,בְשִׁלֹהforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהrevealed himselfנִגְלָהtoאֶלSamuelשְׁמוּאֵלat Shilohבְּשִׁלוֹby the wordבִּדְבַרof YHWH.יְהוָה
