Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָטkingמֶלֶךְof Judahיְהוּדָהreturnedוַיָּשָׁבtoאֶלhis houseבֵּיתוֹin peace,בְּשָׁלוֹםto Jerusalem.לִירוּשָׁלִָם
Jehuיֵהוּאsonבֶןof Hananiחֲנָנִיthe seerהַחֹזֶהwent outוַיֵּצֵאto meet himאֶל פָּנָיוand saidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלKingהַמֶּלֶךְJehoshaphat,יְהוֹשָׁפָט“Should you helpהֲ לַעְזֹרthe wickedלָרָשָׁעand loveתֶּאֱהָבthose who hateוּלְשֹׂנְאֵיYHWH?יְהוָהBecause of thisוּבָזֹאתthere is wrathקֶּצֶףon youעָלֶיךָfrom beforeמִלִּפְנֵיYHWH.יְהוָה
Butאֲבָלgoodטוֹבִיםthingsדְּבָרִיםare foundנִמְצְאוּin you,עִמָּךְforכִּיyou have removedבִעַרְתָּthe Asherahsהָאֲשֵׁרוֹתfromמִןthe landהָאָרֶץand have setוַהֲכִינוֹתָyour heartלְבָבְךָto seekלִדְרֹשׁElohim.”הָאֱלֹהִים
Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָטlivedוַיֵּשֶׁבin Jerusalem;בִּירוּשָׁלִָםand he went out againוַיָּשָׁב וַיֵּצֵאamong the peopleבָעָםfromמִBeershebaבְּאֵר שֶׁבַעtoעַדthe hill countryהַרof Ephraim,אֶפְרַיִםand brought them backוַיְשִׁיבֵםtoאֶלYHWH,יְהוָהElohimאֱלֹהֵיof their fathers.אֲבוֹתֵיהֶם
He appointedוַיַּעֲמֵדjudgesשֹׁפְטִיםin the land,בָּאָרֶץin allבְּכָלthe fortifiedהַבְּצֻרוֹתcitiesעָרֵיof Judah,יְהוּדָהcityלְעִירby city,וָעִיר
and saidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלthe judges,הַשֹּׁפְטִים“Considerרְאוּwhatמָהyouאַתֶּםare doing,עֹשִׂיםforכִּיyou do notלֹאjudgeתִּשְׁפְּטוּfor a human beingלְאָדָםbutכִּיfor YHWH,לַיהוָהand he is with youוְעִמָּכֶםin the matterבִּדְבַרof judgment.מִשְׁפָּט
And now,וְעַתָּהlet the dreadיְהִי פַחַדof YHWHיְהוָהbe on you;עֲלֵיכֶםtake careשִׁמְרוּand do it,וַעֲשׂוּforכִּיwithעִםYHWHיְהוָהour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּthere is noאֵיןinjusticeעַוְלָהor partialityוּמַשֹּׂא פָנִיםor takingוּמִקַּחof bribes.”שֹׁחַד
And alsoוְגַםin JerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִַםJehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָטappointedהֶעֱמִידsome ofמִןthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםand the priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםand ofוּמֵthe headsרָאשֵׁיof the fathers’ housesהָאָבוֹתof Israel,לְיִשְׂרָאֵלfor the judgmentלְמִשְׁפַּטof YHWHיְהוָהand for disputes.וְלָרִיבAnd they returnedוַיָּשֻׁבוּto Jerusalem.יְרוּשָׁלִָם
He commandedוַיְצַוthem,עֲלֵיהֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר“Thusכֹּהyou shall do:תַעֲשׂוּןin the fearבְּיִרְאַתof YHWH,יְהוָהwith faithfulnessבֶּאֱמוּנָהand with a wholeוּבְ שָׁלֵםheart.לֵבָב
In everyוְכָלdisputeרִיבthatאֲשֶׁרcomesיָבוֹאto youעֲלֵיכֶםfromמֵyour brothersאֲחֵיכֶםwho liveהַיֹּשְׁבִיםin their cities,בְּעָרֵיהֶםbetweenבֵּיןbloodדָּםand blood,לְדָםbetweenבֵּיןlawתּוֹרָהand commandment,לְמִצְוָהstatutesלְחֻקִּיםand rules,וּלְמִשְׁפָּטִיםyou shall warnוְהִזְהַרְתֶּםthem,אֹתָםso that they do notוְלֹאincur guiltיֶאְשְׁמוּbefore YHWHלַיהוָהand wrath comeוְהָיָה קֶצֶףon youעֲלֵיכֶםand onוְעַלyour brothers.אֲחֵיכֶםThusכֹּהyou shall do,תַעֲשׂוּןand you will notוְלֹאincur guilt.תֶאְשָׁמוּ
And look,וְהִנֵּהAmariahאֲמַרְיָהוּthe head priestכֹהֵן הָרֹאשׁis over youעֲלֵיכֶםin everyלְכֹלmatterדְּבַרof YHWH,יְהוָהand Zebadiahוּזְבַדְיָהוּsonבֶןof Ishmael,יִשְׁמָעֵאלthe leaderהַנָּגִידof the houseלְבֵיתof Judah,יְהוּדָהin everyלְכֹלmatterדְּבַרof the king;הַמֶּלֶךְand the Levitesוְ הַלְוִיִּםwill be supervisorsשֹׁטְרִיםbefore you.לִפְנֵיכֶםBe strongחִזְקוּand do it,וַעֲשׂוּand may YHWHוִיהִי יְהוָהbe withעִםthe good.”הַטּוֹב
