ThusכֹּהAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWHיְהוִהshowed me:הִרְאַנִיand look,וְהִנֵּהhe was formingיוֹצֵרlocustsגֹּבַיat the beginningבִּתְחִלַּתof the sproutingעֲלוֹתof the late grass;הַלָּקֶשׁand look,וְהִנֵּהit was the late grassלֶקֶשׁafterאַחַרthe mowingsגִּזֵּיof the king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
And it happened,וְהָיָהwhenאִםthey had finishedכִּלָּהeatingלֶאֱכוֹלthe grassעֵשֶׂבof the land,הָאָרֶץthat I said,וָאֹמַר“AdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהforgive,סְלַחplease!נָאHowמִיwill Jacobיַעֲקֹבstand?יָקוּםForכִּיheהוּאis small.”קָטֹן
YHWHיְהוָהrelentedנִחַםconcerningעַלthis.זֹאת“It will notלֹאhappen,”תִהְיֶהsaidאָמַרYHWH.יְהוָה
ThusכֹּהAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWHיְהוִהshowed me:הִרְאַנִיand look,וְהִנֵּהAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWHיְהוִהwas callingקֹרֵאto contendלָרִבby fire;בָּאֵשׁand it devouredוַתֹּאכַלthe greatרַבָּהdeepתְּהוֹםand was devouringוְאָכְלָהthe portion.הַחֵלֶק
And I said,וָאֹמַר“AdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהstop,חֲדַלplease!נָאHowמִיwill Jacobיַעֲקֹבstand?יָקוּםForכִּיheהוּאis small.”קָטֹן
YHWHיְהוָהrelentedנִחַםconcerningעַלthis.זֹאת“Thisהִיאtooגַּםwill notלֹאhappen,”תִהְיֶהsaidאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH.יְהוִה
Thusכֹּהhe showed me:הִרְאַנִיand look,וְהִנֵּהAdonaiאֲדֹנָיwas standingנִצָּבbyעַלa wallחוֹמַתbuilt with a plumb line,אֲנָךְand in his handוּבְיָדוֹa plumb line.אֲנָךְ
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרto me,אֵלַי“Whatמָהdo youאַתָּהsee,רֹאֶהAmos?”עָמוֹסAnd I said,וָאֹמַר“A plumb line.”אֲנָךְAnd Adonaiוַ אֲדֹנָיsaid,יֹּאמֶר“Look at me:הִנְנִיI am settingשָׂםa plumb lineאֲנָךְin the midstבְּקֶרֶבof my peopleעַמִּיIsrael;יִשְׂרָאֵלI will noלֹאlongerאוֹסִיף עוֹדpass byעֲבוֹרhim.לוֹ
And the high placesוְ בָּמוֹתof Isaacיִשְׂחָקwill be made desolate,נָשַׁמּוּand the sanctuariesוּמִקְדְּשֵׁיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwill be laid waste,יֶחֱרָבוּand I will riseוְקַמְתִּיagainstעַלthe houseבֵּיתof Jeroboamיָרָבְעָםwith the sword.”בֶּחָרֶב
Then Amaziah,וַ אֲמַצְיָהthe priestכֹּהֵןof Bethel,בֵּית אֵלsentיִּשְׁלַחtoאֶלJeroboam,יָרָבְעָםkingמֶלֶךְof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלsaying,לֵאמֹר“Amosעָמוֹסhas conspiredקָשַׁרagainst youעָלֶיךָin the midstבְּקֶרֶבof the houseבֵּיתof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלthe landהָאָרֶץis notלֹאableתוּכַלto bearלְהָכִילallכָּלhis words.דְּבָרָיו
ForכִּיthusכֹהAmosעָמוֹסhas said,אָמַר‘By the swordבַּחֶרֶבJeroboamיָרָבְעָםwill die,יָמוּתand Israelוְיִשְׂרָאֵלwill surely go into exileגָּלֹה יִגְלֶהaway fromמֵעַלhis land.’”אַדְמָתוֹ
And Amaziahוַ אֲמַצְיָהsaidיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלAmos,עָמוֹס“Seer,חֹזֶהgo,לֵךְfleeבְּרַח לְךָtoאֶלthe landאֶרֶץof Judah,יְהוּדָהand eatוֶאֱכָלbreadלֶחֶםthere,שָׁםand thereוְשָׁםprophesy.תִּנָּבֵא
But at Bethelוּבֵית אֵלyou will notלֹאagainתוֹסִיף עוֹדprophesy,לְהִנָּבֵאforכִּיitהוּאis the king'sמֶלֶךְsanctuary,מִקְדַּשׁand a houseוּבֵיתof the kingdomמַמְלָכָהit is.”הוּא
And Amosוַ עָמוֹסansweredיַּעַןand saidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלAmaziah,אֲמַצְיָה“Iאָנֹכִיam notלֹאa prophet,נָבִיאand Iוְ אָנֹכִיam notלֹאa prophet'sנָבִיאson;בֶןbutכִּיIאָנֹכִיam a herdsmanבוֹקֵרand a dresserוּבוֹלֵסof sycamore figs.שִׁקְמִים
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהtook meיִּקָּחֵנִיfrom behindמֵאַחֲרֵיthe flock,הַצֹּאןand YHWHוַ יְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרto me,אֵלַי‘Go,לֵךְprophesyהִנָּבֵאtoאֶלmy peopleעַמִּיIsrael.’יִשְׂרָאֵל
And now,וְעַתָּהhearשְׁמַעthe wordדְּבַרof YHWH.יְהוָהYouאַתָּהsay,אֹמֵר‘Do notלֹאprophesyתִנָּבֵאagainstעַלIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלand do notוְלֹאpreachתַטִּיףagainstעַלthe houseבֵּיתof Isaac.’יִשְׂחָק
ThereforeלָכֵןthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָה‘Your wifeאִשְׁתְּךָwill be a prostituteתִּזְנֶהin the city,בָּעִירand your sonsוּבָנֶיךָand your daughtersוּבְנֹתֶיךָwill fallיִפֹּלוּby the sword,בַּחֶרֶבand your landוְאַדְמָתְךָwill be dividedתְּחֻלָּקby the measuring line;בַּחֶבֶלand youוְאַתָּהwill dieתָּמוּתonעַלuncleanטְמֵאָהground,אֲדָמָהand Israelוְיִשְׂרָאֵלwill surely go into exileגָּלֹה יִגְלֶהaway fromמֵעַלhis land.’”אַדְמָתוֹ
