Jordan
Today: Jordan River: Israel, West Bank, Jordan, Dead Sea
Israel's main river; it flows from Mount Hermon in the north, through the Sea of Galilee, to the Dead Sea.
Israel crossed it on dry ground to enter the promised land (Josh 3:17). Naaman was healed in it (2 Kgs 5:14), and Jesus was immersed in it (Matt 3:13).
The context
8The sons of Israel did so, just as Joshua had commanded, and carried twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, just as YHWH had spoken to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel; and they brought them across with them to the lodging place and left them there.
9 · This verse (above)
10The priests carrying the ark were standing in the middle of the Jordan until everything was completed that YHWH had commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua. And the people hurried and crossed.
