And it came about,וַיְהִיwhenכַּאֲשֶׁרallכָלthe nationהַגּוֹיhad finishedתַּמּוּcrossingלַעֲבוֹרthe Jordan,אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּןthat YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלJoshua,יְהוֹשֻׁעַ
“Takeקְחוּfor yourselvesלָכֶםfromמִןthe peopleהָעָםtwelveשְׁנֵים עָשָׂרmen,אֲנָשִׁיםone manאִישׁ אֶחָד אִישׁ אֶחָדfrom each tribe,מִשָּׁבֶט
and commandוְצַוּוּthem,אוֹתָםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘Carryשְׂאוּfor yourselvesלָכֶםfrom here,מִזֶּהfrom the middleמִתּוֹךְof the Jordan,הַיַּרְדֵּןfrom the place whereמִמַּצַּבthe feetרַגְלֵיof the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםstood firm,הָכִיןtwelveשְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵהstones,אֲבָנִיםand bring them acrossוְהַעֲבַרְתֶּם אוֹתָםwith youעִמָּכֶםand leave themוְהִנַּחְתֶּם אוֹתָםin the lodging placeבַּמָּלוֹןwhereאֲשֶׁר בוֹyou spend the nightתָּלִינוּtonight.’”הַלָּיְלָה
So Joshuaוַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַcalledיִּקְרָאtoאֶלthe twelveשְׁנֵים הֶעָשָׂרmenאִישׁwhomאֲשֶׁרhe had preparedהֵכִיןfrom the sonsמִבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלone manאִישׁ אֶחָד אִישׁ אֶחָדfrom each tribe.מִשָּׁבֶט
And Joshuaוַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַsaidיֹּאמֶרto them,לָהֶם“Pass onעִבְרוּbeforeלִפְנֵיthe arkאֲרוֹןof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםintoאֶלthe middleתּוֹךְof the Jordan,הַיַּרְדֵּןand lift up,וְהָרִימוּ לָכֶםeach of you,אִישׁoneאַחַתstoneאֶבֶןonעַלhis shoulder,שִׁכְמוֹaccording to the numberלְמִסְפַּרof the tribesשִׁבְטֵיof the sonsבְנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל
so thatלְמַעַןthisזֹאתmay beתִּהְיֶהa signאוֹתamong you.בְּקִרְבְּכֶםWhenכִּיyour sonsבְּנֵיכֶםaskיִשְׁאָלוּןin time to come,מָחָרsaying,לֵאמֹר‘What areמָהtheseהָאֵלֶּהstonesהָאֲבָנִיםto you?’לָכֶם
then you shall tellוַאֲמַרְתֶּםthemלָהֶםthatאֲשֶׁרthe watersמֵימֵיof the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּןwere cut offנִכְרְתוּbeforeמִפְּנֵיthe arkאֲרוֹןof the covenantבְּרִיתof YHWH;יְהוָהwhen it crossedבְּעָבְרוֹinto the Jordan,בַּיַּרְדֵּןthe watersמֵיof the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּןwere cut off.נִכְרְתוּSo theseוְ הָאֵלֶּהstonesהָאֲבָנִיםshall beהָיוּa memorialלְזִכָּרוֹןfor the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלforever.”עַד עוֹלָם
The sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלdidוַיַּעֲשׂוּso,כֵןjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַhad commanded,צִוָּהand carriedוַיִּשְׂאוּtwelveשְׁתֵּי עֶשְׂרֵהstonesאֲבָנִיםfrom the middleמִתּוֹךְof the Jordan,הַיַּרְדֵּןjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad spokenדִּבֶּרtoאֶלJoshua,יְהוֹשֻׁעַaccording to the numberלְמִסְפַּרof the tribesשִׁבְטֵיof the sonsבְנֵיof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלand they brought them acrossוַיַּעֲבִרוּםwith themעִמָּםtoאֶלthe lodging placeהַמָּלוֹןand left themוַיַּנִּחוּםthere.שָׁם
And twelveוּשְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵהstonesאֲבָנִיםJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַset upהֵקִיםin the middleבְּתוֹךְof the Jordan,הַיַּרְדֵּןwhereתַּחַתthe feetרַגְלֵיof the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםcarryingנֹשְׂאֵיthe arkאֲרוֹןof the covenantהַבְּרִיתhad stood;מַצַּבand they areוַיִּהְיוּthereשָׁםtoעַדthisהַזֶּהday.הַיּוֹם
The priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםcarryingנֹשְׂאֵיthe arkהָאָרוֹןwere standingעֹמְדִיםin the middleבְּתוֹךְof the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּןuntilעַדeverythingכָּל הַדָּבָרwas completedתֹּםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad commandedצִוָּהJoshuaאֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַto speakלְדַבֵּרto the people,אֶל הָעָםaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהhad commandedצִוָּהJoshua.אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַAnd the peopleהָעָםhurriedוַיְמַהֲרוּand crossed.וַיַּעֲבֹרוּ
And it came about,וַיְהִיwhenכַּאֲשֶׁרallכָּלthe peopleהָעָםhad finishedתַּםcrossing,לַעֲבוֹרthat the arkאֲרוֹןof YHWHיְהוָהand the priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםcrossedוַיַּעֲבֹרbeforeלִפְנֵיthe people.הָעָם
The sonsבְּנֵיof Reuben,רְאוּבֵןthe sonsוּבְנֵיof Gad,גָדand halfוַחֲצִיthe tribeשֵׁבֶטof Manassehהַמְנַשֶּׁהcrossedוַיַּעַבְרוּin battle formationחֲמֻשִׁיםbeforeלִפְנֵיthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהhad spokenדִּבֶּרto them.אֲלֵיהֶם
About fortyכְּאַרְבָּעִיםthousandאֶלֶףarmed menחֲלוּצֵיof the armyהַצָּבָאcrossedעָבְרוּbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהfor battleלַמִּלְחָמָהtoאֶלthe plainsעַרְבוֹתof Jericho.יְרִיחוֹ
On thatבַּ הַהוּאdayיּוֹםYHWHיְהוָהmade Joshua greatגִּדַּל אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof allכָּלIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלand they feared himוַיִּרְאוּ אֹתוֹjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרthey had fearedיָרְאוּMoses,אֶת מֹשֶׁהallכָּלthe daysיְמֵיof his life.חַיָּיו
Then YHWHוַ יְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלJoshua,יְהוֹשֻׁעַ
“Commandצַוֵּהthe priestsאֶת הַכֹּהֲנִיםcarryingנֹשְׂאֵיthe arkאֲרוֹןof the testimonyהָעֵדוּתto come upוְיַעֲלוּout ofמִןthe Jordan.”הַיַּרְדֵּן
So Joshuaוַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַcommandedיְצַוthe priests,אֶת הַכֹּהֲנִיםsaying,לֵאמֹר“Come upעֲלוּout ofמִןthe Jordan.”הַיַּרְדֵּן
And it came about,וַיְהִיwhenכַּthe priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםcarryingנֹשְׂאֵיthe arkאֲרוֹןof the covenantבְּרִיתof YHWHיְהוָהcame upעֲלוֹתfrom the middleמִתּוֹךְof the Jordan,הַיַּרְדֵּןand the solesכַּפּוֹתof the feetרַגְלֵיof the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםwere pulled upנִתְּקוּontoאֶלthe dry land,הֶחָרָבָהthat the watersמֵיof the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּןreturnedוַיָּשֻׁבוּto their placeלִמְקוֹמָםand wentוַיֵּלְכוּas beforeכִתְמוֹל שִׁלְשׁוֹםoverעַלallכָּלits banks.גְּדוֹתָיו
The peopleוְהָעָםcame upעָלוּout ofמִןthe Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּןon the tenthבֶּעָשׂוֹרof the firstהָרִאשׁוֹןmonth,לַחֹדֶשׁand they campedוַיַּחֲנוּat Gilgal,בַּגִּלְגָּלon the easternמִזְרַחedgeבִּקְצֵהof Jericho.יְרִיחוֹ
And thoseוְאֵת הָאֵלֶּהtwelveשְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵהstonesהָאֲבָנִיםthatאֲשֶׁרthey had takenלָקְחוּfromמִןthe JordanהַיַּרְדֵּןJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַset upהֵקִיםat Gilgal.בַּגִּלְגָּל
And he saidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל“Whenאֲשֶׁרyour sonsבְּנֵיכֶםaskיִשְׁאָלוּןtheir fathersאֶת אֲבוֹתָםin time to come,מָחָרsaying,לֵאמֹר‘What areמָהtheseהָאֵלֶּהstones?’הָאֲבָנִים
then you shall make knownוְהוֹדַעְתֶּםto your sons,אֶת בְּנֵיכֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘On dry groundבַּיַּבָּשָׁהIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלcrossedעָבַרthisהַזֶּהJordan.’אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּן
ForאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםdried upהוֹבִישׁthe watersאֶת מֵיof the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּןbefore youמִפְּנֵיכֶםuntilעַדyou had crossed,עָבְרְכֶםjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםdidעָשָׂהto the Seaלְיַםof Reeds,סוּףwhichאֲשֶׁרhe dried upהוֹבִישׁbefore usמִפָּנֵינוּuntilעַדwe had crossed,עָבְרֵנוּ
so thatלְמַעַןallכָּלthe peoplesעַמֵּיof the earthהָאָרֶץmay knowדַּעַתthe handאֶת יַדof YHWH,יְהוָהthatכִּיitהִיאis strong,חֲזָקָהso thatלְמַעַןyou may fearיְרָאתֶםYHWHאֶת יְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםallכָּלthe days.”הַיָּמִים
