Places in this verse
1Jerusalem
Today: Old City of Jerusalem
A city in the hills of Judea, about 22 miles (35 km) west of the Dead Sea and 35 miles (55 km) east of the Mediterranean.
David took it and made it his city (2 Sam 5:7); Solomon built the temple there (1 Kgs 8:1). Jesus was presented there, and the apostles' witness began from it (Luke 2:22; Acts 1:8).
2Samaria
Today: northern West Bank (Sebastia, Samaria hills)
A city and region in central Israel, between Judea and Galilee.
Omri founded the city as capital of the northern kingdom (1 Kgs 16:24); the Assyrians conquered it (2 Kgs 17:6). Jesus passed through the region, and Philip preached there (John 4:4; Acts 8:5).
3Galilee
Today: northern Israel, around the Sea of Galilee
The northern region of Israel, around the Sea of Galilee.
Most of Jesus' ministry took place there; he taught, healed and called his disciples (Matt 4:23; Mark 1:14).

1. What it says
Of the ten lepers who are cleansed, how many come back to give thanks, and what does Jesus say to him? (vv. 12-19)
2. What it means
Jesus points out that the one who returned was a Samaritan, a foreigner (vv. 16-18). What does that say about who recognizes what God has done?
3. How I live it
Jesus says to forgive a brother who changes his mind, even seven times a day (vv. 3-4). Whom do you need to forgive this week?
