From twentyמִבֶּן עֶשְׂרִיםyearsשָׁנָהold and upward,וָמַעְלָהeveryoneכָּלin Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלwho goes outיֹצֵאto the army,צָבָאyou shall countתִּפְקְדוּthemאֹתָםby their armies,לְצִבְאֹתָםyouאַתָּהand Aaron.וְאַהֲרֹן
And with youוְאִתְּכֶםthere shall beיִהְיוּa manאִישׁ אִישׁfrom each tribe,לַמַּטֶּהeach manאִישׁheadרֹאשׁof his fathers’ house.לְבֵית אֲבֹתָיו הוּא

But the Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּםby the tribeלְמַטֵּהof their fathersאֲבֹתָםwere notלֹאcountedהָתְפָּקְדוּamong them.בְּתוֹכָם
For YHWHוַ יְהוָהhad spokenיְדַבֵּרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁהsaying,לֵּאמֹר
“Onlyאַךְthe tribeאֶת מַטֵּהof Leviלֵוִיyou shall notלֹאcount,תִפְקֹדandוְyou shall notלֹאtake a census of themאֶת רֹאשָׁם תִשָּׂאamongבְּתוֹךְthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
But youוְאַתָּהappointהַפְקֵדthe Levitesאֶת הַלְוִיִּםoverעַלthe dwellingמִשְׁכַּןof the testimony,הָעֵדֻתand overוְעַלallכָּלits utensils,כֵּלָיוand overוְעַלallכָּלthatאֲשֶׁרbelongs to it.לוֹTheyהֵמָּהshall carryיִשְׂאוּthe dwellingאֶת הַמִּשְׁכָּןand allוְאֶת כָּלits utensils,כֵּלָיוand theyוְהֵםshall minister to it,יְשָׁרְתֻהוּand aroundוְסָבִיבthe dwellingלַמִּשְׁכָּןthey shall camp.יַחֲנוּ
When the dwellingהַמִּשְׁכָּןsets out,וּבִנְסֹעַthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםshall take it down,יוֹרִידוּ אֹתוֹand when the dwellingוּ הַמִּשְׁכָּןcamps,בַחֲנֹתthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםshall set it up.יָקִימוּ אֹתוֹAnd the strangerוְהַזָּרwho comes nearהַקָּרֵבshall be put to death.יוּמָת
The sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלshall camp,וְחָנוּeach manאִישׁin his campעַל מַחֲנֵהוּand each manוְאִישׁby his banner,עַל דִּגְלוֹby their armies.לְצִבְאֹתָם
But the Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּםshall campיַחֲנוּaroundסָבִיבthe dwellingלְמִשְׁכַּןof the testimony,הָעֵדֻתso that there may be noוְלֹא יִהְיֶהwrathקֶצֶףonעַלthe communityעֲדַתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלand the Levitesהַלְוִיִּםshall keepוְשָׁמְרוּthe chargeאֶת מִשְׁמֶרֶתof the dwellingמִשְׁכַּןof the testimony.”הָעֵדוּת
And the sonsוַ בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלdidיַּעֲשׂוּaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad commandedצִוָּהMoses;אֶת מֹשֶׁהsoכֵּןthey did.עָשׂוּ
