thatὅτιI haveμοί ἐστινgreatμεγάληsorrowλύπηandκαὶunceasingἀδιάλειπτοςanguishὀδύνηin myτῇ μουheart.καρδίᾳ
ForγὰρI could wishηὐχόμηνthat I myselfαὐτὸς ἐγὼwereεἶναιaccursed,ἀνάθεμαcut offfromἀπὸthe Messiahτοῦ Χριστοῦfor the sake ofὑπὲρmy brothers,τῶν ἀδελφῶν μουmy relativesτῶν συγγενῶν μουaccording toκατὰthe flesh,σάρκα
whoοἵτινέςareεἰσινIsraelites;Ἰσραηλῖταιto them belongὧνthe adoption as sons,ἡ υἱοθεσίαandκαὶthe glory,ἡ δόξαandκαὶthe covenants,αἱ διαθῆκαιandκαὶthe giving of the law,ἡ νομοθεσίαandκαὶthe worship,ἡ λατρείαandκαὶthe promises;αἱ ἐπαγγελίαι
to them belongὧνthe fathers,οἱ πατέρεςandκαὶfromἐξthem,ὧνaccording toτὸ κατὰthe flesh,σάρκαcamethe Messiah,ὁ χριστὸςwhoὁisὢνoverἐπὶall,πάντωνGodθεὸςblessedεὐλογητὸςforever.εἰς τοὺς αἰῶναςAmen.ἀμήν
Butδὲit is notΟὐχas thoughοἷον ὅτιthe wordὁ λόγοςof Godτοῦ θεοῦhas failed.ἐκπέπτωκενForγὰρnotοὐallπάντεςthoseοἱdescendedfromἐξIsraelἸσραήλareIsrael;Ἰσραήλ
norοὐδ’arethey allπάντεςchildrenτέκναbecauseὅτιthey areεἰσὶνAbraham’sἈβραάμoffspring;σπέρμαbut:ἀλλ’ThroughἘνIsaacἸσαὰκyourσοιoffspringσπέρμαwill be called.κληθήσεταί
Thatτοῦτ’is,ἔστινit isnotοὐthe childrenτὰ τέκναof the fleshτῆς σαρκὸςwho arechildrenτέκναof God,τοῦ θεοῦbutἀλλὰthe childrenτὰ τέκναof the promiseτῆς ἐπαγγελίαςare countedλογίζεταιasεἰςoffspring.σπέρμα
Forγὰρthisοὗτοςisthe wordὁ λόγοςof promise:ἐπαγγελίαςAtΚατὰthisτοῦτονtimeτὸν καιρὸνI will come,ἐλεύσομαιandκαὶSarahτῇ Σάρρᾳwill haveἔσταιa son.υἱός
Andδέnotοὐonly this,μόνονbutἀλλὰalsoκαὶRebekah,Ῥεβέκκαhaving conceivedκοίτην ἔχουσαbyἐξone man,ἑνὸςIsaacἸσαὰκourἡμῶνfather—τοῦ πατρὸς
forγὰρwhen they werenot yetμήπωbornγεννηθέντωνnorμηδὲhad doneπραξάντωνanythingτιgoodἀγαθὸνorἢbad,φαῦλονso thatἵναthe purposeἡ πρόθεσιςof Godτοῦ θεοῦaccording toκατ’electionἐκλογὴνmight remain,μένῃ
notοὐκbyἐξworksἔργωνbutἀλλ’byἐκthe one who calls—τοῦ καλοῦντοςit was saidἐρρέθηto her:αὐτῇThe olderὉ μείζωνwill serveδουλεύσειthe younger.τῷ ἐλάσσονι
Asκαθὼςit is written:γέγραπταιJacobΤὸν ἸακὼβI loved,ἠγάπησαbutδὲEsauτὸν ἨσαῦI hated.ἐμίσησα
WhatΤίthenοὖνshall we say?ἐροῦμενThere isnoμὴunrighteousnessἀδικίαwithπαρὰGod,τῷ θεῷis there?By no means!μὴ γένοιτο
Forγὰρto Mosesτῷ Μωϋσεῖhe says:λέγειI will have mercyἘλεήσωon whomeverὃν ἂνI have mercy,ἐλεῶandκαὶI will have compassionοἰκτιρήσωon whomeverὃν ἂνI have compassion.οἰκτίρω
Soἄραthen,οὖνit dependsnotοὐon the one who wantsτοῦ θέλοντοςnorοὐδὲon the one who runs,τοῦ τρέχοντοςbutἀλλὰon Godτοῦ θεοῦwho has mercy.ἐλεῶντος
Forγὰρthe Scriptureἡ γραφὴsaysλέγειto Pharaoh:τῷ ΦαραὼForΕἰςthis very purposeαὐτὸ τοῦτοI raisedἐξήγειράyou up,σεso thatὅπωςI may showἐνδείξωμαιinἐνyouσοὶmy power,τὴν δύναμίν μουandκαὶso thatὅπωςmy nameτὸ ὄνομά μουmay be proclaimedδιαγγελῇinἐνallπάσῃthe earth.τῇ γῇ
Soἄραthen,οὖνhe has mercyἐλεεῖon whomὃνhe wants,θέλειandδὲhe hardensσκληρύνειwhomὃνhe wants.θέλει
You will sayἘρεῖςto meμοιthen,οὖνWhyΤίthenοὖνdoes he still find fault?ἔτι μέμφεταιForγὰρwhoτίςhas resistedἀνθέστηκενhis will?τῷ βουλήματι αὐτοῦ
On the contrary,μενοῦνγεwhoτίςareεἶyou,σὺOὦhuman being,ἄνθρωπεwho answer backὁ ἀνταποκρινόμενοςto God?τῷ θεῷThe thing formedτὸ πλάσμαwill notμὴsayἐρεῖto the one who formed it,τῷ πλάσαντιwill it:WhyΤίdid you makeἐποίησαςmeμεlike this?οὕτως
Orἢhasἔχειthe potterὁ κεραμεὺςnoοὐκauthorityἐξουσίανover the clay,τοῦ πηλοῦto makeποιῆσαιfromἐκthe sameτοῦ αὐτοῦlumpφυράματοςoneὃvesselσκεῦοςforεἰςhonorτιμὴνandδὲanotherὃforεἰςdishonor?ἀτιμίαν
ButδὲwhatifεἰGod,ὁ θεὸςwantingθέλωνto showἐνδείξασθαιhis wrathτὴν ὀργὴνandκαὶto make knownγνωρίσαιhis power,τὸ δυνατὸν αὐτοῦenduredἤνεγκενwithἐνmuchπολλῇpatienceμακροθυμίᾳvesselsσκεύηof wrathὀργῆςpreparedκατηρτισμέναforεἰςdestruction,ἀπώλειαν
andκαὶso thatἵναhe might make knownγνωρίσῃthe richesτὸν πλοῦτονof his gloryτῆς δόξης αὐτοῦonἐπὶvesselsσκεύηof mercy,ἐλέουςwhichἃhe prepared beforehandπροητοίμασενforεἰςglory—δόξαν
us,ἡμᾶςwhomοὓςhe alsoκαὶcalled,ἐκάλεσενnotοὐonlyμόνονfrom amongἐξthe JewsἸουδαίωνbutἀλλὰalsoκαὶfrom amongἐξthe nations?ἐθνῶν
Asὡςhe saysλέγειalsoκαὶinἐνHosea:τῷ ὩσηὲI will callΚαλέσωthe one who was notτὸν οὐmy people,λαόν μουMy people;λαόν μουandκαὶher who was notτὴν οὐκloved,ἠγαπημένηνLoved.ἠγαπημένην
Andκαὶit will beἔσταιthatinἐνthe placeτῷ τόπῳwhereοὗit was saidἐρρέθηto them,αὐτοῖςYouὑμεῖςarenotΟὐmy people,λαός μουthereἐκεῖthey will be calledκληθήσονταιsonsυἱοὶof the livingζῶντοςGod.θεοῦ
AndδὲIsaiahἨσαΐαςcries outκράζειconcerningὑπὲρIsrael:τοῦ ἸσραήλThoughἘὰνthe numberὁ ἀριθμὸςof the sonsτῶν υἱῶνof IsraelἸσραὴλbeᾖlikeὡςthe sandἡ ἄμμοςof the sea,τῆς θαλάσσηςthe remnantτὸ ὑπόλειμμαwill be saved;σωθήσεται
forγὰρthe Lordκύριοςwill carry outποιήσειhis wordλόγονonἐπὶthe earth,τῆς γῆςcompleting itσυντελῶνandκαὶcutting it short.συντέμνων
AndκαὶasκαθὼςIsaiahἨσαΐαςsaid beforehand:προείρηκενIfΕἰthe LordκύριοςTsevaotΣαβαὼθhad notμὴleftἐγκατέλιπενusἡμῖνoffspring,σπέρμαwe would have becomeἂν ἐγενήθημενlikeὡςSodom,Σόδομαandκαὶwould have been madeἂν ὡμοιώθημενlikeὡςGomorrah.Γόμορρα
WhatΤίthenοὖνshall we say?ἐροῦμενThatὅτιnationsἔθνηthat did notτὰ μὴpursueδιώκονταrighteousnessδικαιοσύνηνobtainedκατέλαβενrighteousness,δικαιοσύνηνnamely,δὲthe righteousnessδικαιοσύνην τὴνthat isfromἐκfaith;πίστεως
butδὲIsrael,Ἰσραὴλpursuingδιώκωνa lawνόμονof righteousness,δικαιοσύνηςdid notοὐκattainἔφθασενtoεἰςthat law.νόμον
Why?διὰ τίBecauseὅτιthey didnot pursue itοὐκbyἐκfaith,πίστεωςbutἀλλ’as ifὡςbyἐξworks.ἔργωνThey stumbledπροσέκοψανover the stoneτῷ λίθῳof stumbling,τοῦ προσκόμματος
asκαθὼςit is written:γέγραπταιLook,ἸδοὺI am layingτίθημιinἐνZionΣιὼνa stoneλίθονof stumblingπροσκόμματοςandκαὶa rockπέτρανof offense,σκανδάλουandκαὶwhoeverὁbelievesπιστεύωνinἐπ’himαὐτῷwill notοὐbe put to shame.καταισχυνθήσεται
