Ruth 4

Now Boazוּבֹעַזwent upעָלָהtothe gateהַשַּׁעַרand satוַיֵּשֶׁבthere;שָׁםand look,וְהִנֵּהthe kinsman-redeemerהַגֹּאֵלof whomאֲשֶׁרBoazבֹּעַזhad spokenדִּבֶּרwas passing by.עֹבֵרAnd he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Turn aside,סוּרָהsitשְׁבָהhere,פֹּהso-and-so.”פְּלֹנִי אַלְמֹנִיAnd he turned asideוַיָּסַרand sat down.וַיֵּשֵׁב

Then he tookוַיִּקַּחtenעֲשָׂרָהmenאֲנָשִׁיםof the eldersמִזִּקְנֵיof the cityהָעִירand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Sitשְׁבוּhere.”פֹהAnd they sat down.וַיֵּשֵׁבוּ

He saidוַיֹּאמֶרto the kinsman-redeemer,לַגֹּאֵל“The plotחֶלְקַתof the fieldהַשָּׂדֶהthatאֲשֶׁרbelonged to our brotherלְאָחִינוּElimelechלֶאֱלִימֶלֶךְNaomiנָעֳמִיis selling,מָכְרָהthe one who returnedהַשָּׁבָהfrom the fieldמִשְּׂדֵהof Moab.מוֹאָב

And Iוַאֲנִיsaid to myself:אָמַרְתִּיI will let you know,אֶגְלֶה אָזְנְךָsaying,לֵאמֹר‘Acquire itקְנֵהin the presence ofנֶגֶדthose sitting hereהַיֹּשְׁבִיםand in the presence ofוְנֶגֶדthe eldersזִקְנֵיof my people.עַמִּיIfאִםyou will redeem,תִּגְאַלredeem;גְּאָלbut ifוְאִםone does notלֹאredeem,יִגְאַלtellהַגִּידָהme,לִּיso that I may know,וְאֵדְעָהforכִּיthere is no oneאֵיןbesides youזוּלָתְךָto redeem,לִגְאוֹלand Iוְאָנֹכִיamafter you.’”אַחֲרֶיךָAnd he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Iאָנֹכִיwill redeem.”אֶגְאָל

Then Boazוַ בֹּעַזsaid,יֹּאמֶר“On the dayבְּיוֹםyou acquireקְנוֹתְךָthe fieldהַשָּׂדֶהfrom the handמִיַּדof Naomiנָעֳמִיand fromוּמֵאֵתRuthרוּתthe Moabite,הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּהthe wifeאֵשֶׁתof the dead man,הַמֵּתyou acquire itקָנִיתָהto raise upלְהָקִיםthe nameשֵׁםof the dead manהַמֵּתonעַלhis inheritance.”נַחֲלָתוֹ

The kinsman-redeemerוַ הַגֹּאֵלsaid,יֹּאמֶר“I cannotלֹא אוּכַלredeemלִגְאָלit for myself,לִיlestפֶּןI destroyאַשְׁחִיתmy inheritance.אֶת נַחֲלָתִיYouאַתָּהredeemגְּאַלmy redemptionאֶת גְּאֻלָּתִיfor yourself,לְךָforכִּיI cannotלֹא אוּכַלredeem.”לִגְאֹל1

Now thisוְזֹאתwas doneformerlyלְפָנִיםin Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלconcerningעַלredemptionהַגְּאוּלָּהand concerningוְעַלexchange,הַתְּמוּרָהto confirmלְקַיֵּםanyכָּלmatter:דָּבָרa manאִישׁtook offשָׁלַףhis sandalנַעֲלוֹand gave itוְנָתַןto his companion;לְרֵעֵהוּand thisוְזֹאתwasthe manner of attestingהַתְּעוּדָהin Israel.בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל1

So the kinsman-redeemerוַ הַגֹּאֵלsaidיֹּאמֶרto Boaz,לְבֹעַז“Acquire itקְנֵהfor yourself.”לָךְAnd he took offוַיִּשְׁלֹףhis sandal.נַעֲלוֹ

Then Boazוַ בֹּעַזsaidיֹּאמֶרto the eldersלַזְּקֵנִיםand allוְכָלthe people,הָעָם“YouאַתֶּםarewitnessesעֵדִיםtodayהַיּוֹםthatכִּיI have acquiredקָנִיתִיallאֶת כָּלthatאֲשֶׁרbelonged to Elimelechלֶאֱלִימֶלֶךְand allוְאֵת כָּלthatאֲשֶׁרbelonged to Chilionלְכִלְיוֹןand Mahlonוּמַחְלוֹןfrom the handמִיַּדof Naomi.נָעֳמִי

And alsoוְגַםRuthאֶת רוּתthe Moabite,הַמֹּאֲבִיָּהthe wifeאֵשֶׁתof Mahlon,מַחְלוֹןI have acquiredקָנִיתִיfor myselfלִיas wife,לְאִשָּׁהto raise upלְהָקִיםthe nameשֵׁםof the dead manהַמֵּתonעַלhis inheritance,נַחֲלָתוֹso thatוְthe nameשֵׁםof the dead manהַמֵּתmay notלֹאbe cut offיִכָּרֵתfrom amongמֵעִםhis brothersאֶחָיוand from the gateוּמִשַּׁעַרof his place.מְקוֹמוֹYouאַתֶּםarewitnessesעֵדִיםtoday.”הַיּוֹם1

And allוַ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםwhoאֲשֶׁרwereat the gateבַּשַּׁעַרand the eldersוְהַזְּקֵנִיםsaid,יֹּאמְרוּ“Witnesses.עֵדִיםMay YHWHיְהוָהmakeיִתֵּןthe womanאֶת הָאִשָּׁהwho is comingהַבָּאָהintoאֶלyour houseבֵּיתֶךָlike Rachelכְּרָחֵלand like Leah,וּכְלֵאָהthe twoשְׁתֵּיהֶםwhoאֲשֶׁרbuiltבָּנוּthe houseאֶת בֵּיתof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵלActוַעֲשֵׂהwith worthחַיִלin Ephrathahבְּאֶפְרָתָהand have renownוּקְרָא שֵׁםin Bethlehem.בְּבֵית לָחֶם

And mayוִיהִיyour houseבֵיתְךָbe likeכְּthe houseבֵיתof Perez,פֶּרֶץwhomאֲשֶׁרTamarתָמָרboreיָלְדָהto Judah,לִיהוּדָהthroughמִןthe offspringהַזֶּרַעthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהwill giveיִתֵּןyouלְךָfromמִןthisהַזֹּאתyoung woman.”הַנַּעֲרָה

So Boazוַ בֹּעַזtookיִּקַּחRuth,אֶת רוּתand she becameוַתְּהִיhisלוֹwife;לְאִשָּׁהhe went inוַיָּבֹאto her,אֵלֶיהָand YHWHוַ יְהוָהgrantedיִּתֵּןherלָהּconception,הֵרָיוֹןand she boreוַתֵּלֶדa son.בֵּן

Then the womenוַ הַנָּשִׁיםsaidתֹּאמַרְנָהtoאֶלNaomi,נָעֳמִי“Blessed beבָּרוּךְYHWH,יְהוָהwhoאֲשֶׁרhas notלֹאleft you withoutהִשְׁבִּית לָךְa kinsman-redeemerגֹּאֵלtoday;הַיּוֹםand may his nameוְ שְׁמוֹbe proclaimedיִקָּרֵאin Israel.בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל1

He will beוְהָיָהto youלָךְone who brings backלְמֵשִׁיבthe soulנֶפֶשׁand one who sustainsוּלְכַלְכֵּלyour old age;אֶת שֵׂיבָתֵךְforכִּיyour daughter-in-lawכַלָּתֵךְwhoאֲשֶׁרloves youאֲהֵבַתֶךְhas borne him,יְלָדַתּוּshe whoאֲשֶׁר הִיאis betterטוֹבָהto youלָךְthan sevenמִשִּׁבְעָהsons.”בָּנִים

Then Naomiוַ נָעֳמִיtookתִּקַּחthe childאֶת הַיֶּלֶדand laid himוַתְּשִׁתֵהוּin her bosomבְחֵיקָהּand wasוַתְּהִיthe one who rearedלְאֹמֶנֶתhim.לוֹ

And the neighbor womenוַ הַשְּׁכֵנוֹתgaveתִּקְרֶאנָהhimלוֹa name,שֵׁםsaying,לֵאמֹר“A sonבֵּןhas been bornיֻלַּדto Naomi.”לְנָעֳמִיAnd they calledוַתִּקְרֶאנָהhis nameשְׁמוֹObed.עוֹבֵדHeהוּאwasthe fatherאֲבִיof Jesse,יִשַׁיthe fatherאֲבִיof David.דָוִד

Now theseוְאֵלֶּהarethe generationsתּוֹלְדוֹתof Perez:פָּרֶץPerezפֶּרֶץfatheredהוֹלִידHezron;אֶת חֶצְרוֹן2

HezronוְחֶצְרוֹןfatheredהוֹלִידRam,אֶת רָםand RamוְרָםfatheredהוֹלִידAmminadab;אֶת עַמִּינָדָב

AmminadabוְעַמִּינָדָבfatheredהוֹלִידNahshon,אֶת נַחְשׁוֹןand NahshonוְנַחְשׁוֹןfatheredהוֹלִידSalmah;אֶת שַׂלְמָה

SalmonוְשַׂלְמוֹןfatheredהוֹלִידBoaz,אֶת בֹּעַזand BoazוּבֹעַזfatheredהוֹלִידObed;אֶת עוֹבֵד

ObedוְעֹבֵדfatheredהוֹלִידJesse,אֶת יִשָׁיand JesseוְיִשַׁיfatheredהוֹלִידDavid.אֶת דָּוִד
