Conflict and Reconciliation

7-day plan: Conflict and Reconciliation

How to put out fights, cool anger, give up revenge, and become one again.

One passage a day, with a question to think it over. Your progress stays on this device, no account needed.

  1. Day 1 · Seeking Peace

Turn from evil, do good, seek peace and pursue it

Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

What does this passage say about what God is like?

  2. Day 2 · Settling Things with Your Brother

If you remember someone has something against you, reconcile first

So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

Jesus says, “Love your enemies” (v. 44). What small gesture could you offer today to someone you find hard to like?

  3. Day 3 · Anger

A gentle answer turns away fury; a harsh word stirs up anger

A soft answer turns back wrath, but a hurtful word stirs up anger.

  4. Day 4 · Do Not Take Revenge

Do not take revenge: overcome evil with good

Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to the wrath; for it is written: Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord. But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for by doing this you will heap coals of fire on his head. Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.

  5. Day 5 · Reconciled to God and to Each Other

God reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation

And all things are from God, who reconciled us to himself through the Messiah and gave us the service of reconciliation, namely, that God was in the Messiah reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the word of reconciliation. So on behalf of the Messiah we are ambassadors, as though God were appealing through us; we beg you on behalf of the Messiah, be reconciled to God.

  7. Day 7 · Settling Things with Your Brother

Jesus teaches to speak first, alone, with the one who wronged you

And if your brother sins against you, go, reprove him between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take with you one or two more, so that by the mouth of two witnesses or three every word may be established. And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the assembly; and if he refuses to listen even to the assembly, let him be to you as the Gentile and the tax collector.
