Waiting on God

7-day plan: Waiting on God

Learning to wait on God without hurry: in silence, in his time, with others, and without giving up.

One passage a day, with a question to think it over. Your progress stays on this device, no account needed.

  1. Day 1 · Waiting in silence

David lets his soul be quiet, because his salvation comes from God

For the director. On Jeduthun. A psalm of David. Only toward Elohim my soul is in silence; from him comes my salvation. Only he is my Rock and my salvation, my high refuge; I will not be greatly moved.

  2. Day 2 · God's timing

There is a time for everything under heaven

For everything there is an appointed time, and a time for every matter under the heavens: a time to give birth and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted; a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to break down and a time to build; a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance; a time to throw away stones and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace and a time to keep far from embracing; a time to seek and a time to lose; a time to keep and a time to throw away; a time to tear and a time to sew; a time to keep silent and a time to speak; a time to love and a time to hate; a time of war and a time of peace.

  3. Day 3 · Patience with others

Paul asks us to bear with one another in love, with humility and patience

I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace:

Paul writes, "do not let the sun go down on your anger" (v. 26). With whom could you talk calmly today to make something right?

  4. Day 4 · Perseverance

James points to the farmer waiting for rain and to Job's endurance

Be patient, then, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Look, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it until it receives the early and the late rain. You also be patient; make firm your hearts, because the coming of the Lord has drawn near. Do not complain, brothers, against one another, so that you may not be judged. Look, the Judge is standing at the doors. As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Look, we count happy those who endured. You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and you have seen the outcome given by the Lord, that the Lord is full of compassion and merciful.

  5. Day 5 · Waiting in silence

Be still before YHWH and do not burn with envy at the one who prospers

Be silent before YHWH and wait longingly for him; do not get heated because of the one who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out plans.

  6. Day 6 · God's timing

Habakkuk keeps watch and is told the vision has its time: if it delays, wait

At my guard post I will stand, and station myself on the fortification, and I will watch to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my reproof. And YHWH answered me and said: “Write the vision, and engrave it clearly on the tablets, so that the one who reads it may run. For the vision is yet for the appointed time; and it hastens toward the end, and it will not lie. If it delays, wait for it, for it will surely come; it will not be late.
