ForγὰρifεἰIἐγὼgrieveλυπῶyou,ὑμᾶςthenκαὶwhoτίςisthe one who makes gladὁ εὐφραίνωνmeμεexceptεἰ μὴthe one who is grievedὁ λυπούμενοςbyἐξme?ἐμοῦ
AndκαὶI wroteἔγραψαthis very thingτοῦτο αὐτὸso thatἵναwhen I cameἐλθὼνI would notμὴhaveσχῶsorrowλύπηνfromἀφ’thoseὧνin whomI oughtἔδει μεto rejoice,χαίρεινbeing confidentπεποιθὼςaboutἐπὶallπάνταςof youὑμᾶςthatὅτιmy joyἡ ἐμὴ χαρὰisἐστινthe joyof allπάντωνof you.ὑμῶν
Forγὰρout ofἐκmuchπολλῆςafflictionθλίψεωςandκαὶanguishσυνοχῆςof heartκαρδίαςI wroteἔγραψαto youὑμῖνthroughδιὰmanyπολλῶνtears,δακρύωνnotοὐχso thatἵναyou would be grievedλυπηθῆτεbutἀλλὰso thatἵναyou would knowγνῶτεthe loveτὴν ἀγάπηνthatἣνI haveἔχωespeciallyπερισσοτέρωςforεἰςyou.ὑμᾶς
ButδέifΕἰanyoneτιςhas caused grief,λελύπηκενhe has grievedλελύπηκενnotοὐκmeἐμὲbutἀλλὰin some measureἀπὸ μέρους—so that I do notἵνα μὴlay it on too heavily—ἐπιβαρῶallπάνταςof you.ὑμᾶς
Sufficientἱκανὸνfor such a oneτῷ τοιούτῳisthisαὕτηpunishmentἡ ἐπιτιμίαinflictedbyἡ ὑπὸthe majority,τῶν πλειόνων
so thatὥστεon the contraryτοὐναντίονyou should ratherμᾶλλον ὑμᾶςforgiveχαρίσασθαιandκαὶcomfort him,παρακαλέσαιlest somehowμή πωςsuch a oneὁ τοιοῦτοςbe swallowed upκαταποθῇby excessiveτῇ περισσοτέρᾳsorrow.λύπῃ
ThereforeδιὸI urgeπαρακαλῶyouὑμᾶςto confirmκυρῶσαιyourloveἀγάπηνforεἰςhim.αὐτὸν
Forγὰρtoεἰςthis endτοῦτοI alsoκαὶwrote,ἔγραψαso thatἵναI might knowγνῶyour proven character,τὴν δοκιμὴν ὑμῶνwhetherεἰinεἰςeverythingπάνταyou areἐστεobedient.ὑπήκοοί
Andδέto whomᾧyou forgiveχαρίζεσθεanything,τιI also forgive;κἀγώforγὰρwhatὃIἐγὼtooκαὶhave forgiven,κεχάρισμαιifεἴI have forgivenκεχάρισμαιanything,τιhas beenforδι’your sakeὑμᾶςinἐνthe presenceπροσώπῳof the Messiah,Χριστοῦ
so thatἵναwe may notμὴbe outwittedπλεονεκτηθῶμενbyὑπὸSatan,τοῦ Σατανᾶforγὰρwe are notοὐunawareἀγνοοῦμενof hisαὐτοῦschemes.τὰ νοήματα
Nowδὲwhen I cameἘλθὼνtoεἰςTroasτὴν Τρῳάδαforεἰςthe good newsτὸ εὐαγγέλιονof the Messiah,τοῦ Χριστοῦandκαὶa doorθύραςhad been openedἀνεῳγμένηςfor meμοιinἐνthe Lord,κυρίῳ
I hadἔσχηκαnoοὐκrestἄνεσινin my spiritτῷ πνεύματί μουbecauseτῷIμεdid notμὴfindεὑρεῖνTitusΤίτονmy brother;τὸν ἀδελφόν μουbutἀλλὰsaying goodbyeἀποταξάμενοςto them,αὐτοῖςI went outἐξῆλθονtoεἰςMacedonia.Μακεδονίαν
Butδὲthanksχάριςbeto God,Τῷ θεῷwhoτῷalwaysπάντοτεleads us in triumphθριαμβεύοντι ἡμᾶςinἐνthe Messiah,τῷ Χριστῷandκαὶmakes knownφανεροῦντιthroughδι’usἡμῶνthe aromaτὴν ὀσμὴνof the knowledgeτῆς γνώσεωςof himαὐτοῦinἐνeveryπαντὶplace;τόπῳ
forὅτιwe areἐσμὲνthe fragranceεὐωδίαof the MessiahΧριστοῦto Godτῷ θεῷamongἐνthose who are being savedτοῖς σῳζομένοιςandκαὶamongἐνthose who are perishing:τοῖς ἀπολλυμένοις
to the onesοἷς μὲνan aromaὀσμὴfromἐκdeathθανάτουtoεἰςdeath,θάνατονto the othersοἷς δὲan aromaὀσμὴfromἐκlifeζωῆςtoεἰςlife.ζωήνAndκαὶforπρὸςthese thingsταῦταwhoτίςissufficient?ἱκανός
Forγάρwe areἐσμενnotοὐlikeὡςthe many,οἱ πολλοὶpeddlingκαπηλεύοντεςthe wordτὸν λόγονof God,τοῦ θεοῦbutἀλλ’asὡςfromἐξsincerity,εἰλικρινείαςbutἀλλ’asὡςfromἐκGod,θεοῦbeforeκατέναντιGodθεοῦwe speakλαλοῦμενinἐνthe Messiah.Χριστῷ
