Hearשִׁמְעוּthe wordדְבַרof YHWH,יְהוָהchildrenבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלforכִּיYHWH hasלַיהוָהa disputeרִיבwith the inhabitantsעִם יוֹשְׁבֵיof the land;הָאָרֶץforכִּיthere is noאֵיןtruth,אֱמֶתand noוְאֵיןloyal love,חֶסֶדand noוְאֵיןknowledgeדַּעַתof Elohimאֱלֹהִיםin the land.בָּאָרֶץ
Cursing,אָלֹהand lying,וְכַחֵשׁand murdering,וְרָצֹחַand stealing,וְגָנֹבand committing adultery;וְנָאֹףthey break out,פָּרָצוּand bloodshedוְדָמִיםtouchesנָגָעוּbloodshed.בְּדָמִים
Thereforeעַל כֵּןthe landהָאָרֶץwill mourn,תֶּאֱבַלand everyoneוְ כָּלwho livesיוֹשֵׁבin itבָּהּwill languish,אֻמְלַלwith the animalsבְּחַיַּתof the fieldהַשָּׂדֶהand with the birdsוּבְעוֹףof the heavens;הַשָּׁמָיִםand evenוְגַםthe fishדְּגֵיof the seaהַיָּםwill be taken away.יֵאָסֵפוּ
Yetאַךְlet no oneאִישׁ אַלcontend,יָרֵבand let noוְאַלoneאִישׁreprove;יוֹכַחfor your peopleוְעַמְּךָare like those who contendכִּמְרִיבֵיwith a priest.כֹהֵן
And you will stumbleוְכָשַׁלְתָּby day,הַיּוֹםand the prophetנָבִיאalsoגַּםwill stumbleוְכָשַׁלwith youעִמְּךָby night;לָיְלָהand I will destroyוְדָמִיתִיyour mother.אִמֶּךָ
My peopleעַמִּיare destroyedנִדְמוּfor lackמִבְּלִיof knowledge;הַדָּעַתbecauseכִּיyouאַתָּהhave rejectedמָאַסְתָּknowledge,הַדַּעַתI will reject youוְאֶמְאָסְאךָfrom being priestמִכַּהֵןto me;לִיand because you have forgottenוַתִּשְׁכַּחthe lawתּוֹרַתof your Elohim,אֱלֹהֶיךָIאָנִיalsoגַּםwill forgetאֶשְׁכַּחyour children.בָּנֶיךָ
As they multiplied,כְּרֻבָּםsoכֵּןthey sinnedחָטְאוּagainst me;לִיtheir gloryכְּבוֹדָםI will changeאָמִירinto disgrace.בְּקָלוֹן
The sinחַטַּאתof my peopleעַמִּיthey eat,יֹאכֵלוּand towardוְאֶלtheir iniquityעֲוֺנָםthey lift upיִשְׂאוּtheir soul.נַפְשׁוֹ
And it will beוְהָיָהlike people,כָעָםlike priest;כַּכֹּהֵןand I will call him to accountוּפָקַדְתִּי עָלָיוfor his ways,דְּרָכָיוand his deedsוּמַעֲלָלָיוI will pay backאָשִׁיבto him.לוֹ
And they will eatוְאָכְלוּbut notוְלֹאbe satisfied;יִשְׂבָּעוּthey will prostitute themselvesהִזְנוּbut notוְלֹאincrease,יִפְרֹצוּforכִּיthey have abandonedעָזְבוּYHWH,יְהוָהceasing to keep him.לִשְׁמֹר
Prostitution,זְנוּתand wine,וְיַיִןand new wineוְתִירוֹשׁtake awayיִקַּחthe heart.לֵב
My peopleעַמִּיconsultיִשְׁאָלtheir piece of wood,בְּעֵצוֹand their staffוּמַקְלוֹanswersיַגִּידthem;לוֹforכִּיa spiritרוּחַof prostitutionsזְנוּנִיםhas led them astray,הִתְעָהand they have prostituted themselvesוַיִּזְנוּaway fromמִתַּחַתtheir Elohim.אֱלֹהֵיהֶם
On the topsעַל רָאשֵׁיof the mountainsהֶהָרִיםthey sacrifice,יְזַבֵּחוּand onוְעַלthe hillsהַגְּבָעוֹתthey burn incense,יְקַטֵּרוּunderתַּחַתoakאַלּוֹןand poplarוְלִבְנֶהand terebinth,וְאֵלָהforכִּיtheir shadeצִלָּהּis good.טוֹבThereforeעַל כֵּןyour daughtersבְּנוֹתֵיכֶםprostitute themselves,תִּזְנֶינָהand your daughters-in-lawוְכַלּוֹתֵיכֶםcommit adultery.תְּנָאַפְנָה
I will notלֹאcallאֶפְקוֹדyour daughtersבְּנוֹתֵיכֶםto accountעַלwhenכִּיthey prostitute themselves,תִזְנֶינָהorוְyour daughters-in-lawעַל כַּלּוֹתֵיכֶםwhenכִּיthey commit adultery;תְנָאַפְנָהforכִּיthey themselvesהֵםgo asideיְפָרֵדוּwith prostitutesעִם הַזֹּנוֹתand sacrificeיְזַבֵּחוּwith sacred prostitutes;וְעִם הַקְּדֵשׁוֹתand a peopleוְעָםthat does notלֹאunderstandיָבִיןwill come to ruin.יִלָּבֵט
Thoughאִםyou,אַתָּהIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלprostitute yourself,זֹנֶהlet notאַלJudahיְהוּדָהbecome guilty;יֶאְשַׁםand do notוְאַלcomeתָּבֹאוּto Gilgal,הַגִּלְגָּלand do notוְאַלgo upתַּעֲלוּto Beth-aven,בֵּית אָוֶןand do notוְאַלswear,תִּשָּׁבְעוּ“As YHWH lives.”חַי יְהוָה
Forכִּיlike a stubbornסֹרֵרָהheiferכְּפָרָהIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלhas been stubborn;סָרַרnowעַתָּהwill YHWHיְהוָהpasture themיִרְעֵםlike a lambכְּכֶבֶשׂin a broad place?בַּמֶּרְחָב
Joinedחֲבוּרto idolsעֲצַבִּיםis Ephraim;אֶפְרָיִםleaveהַנַּחhim alone.לוֹ
Their drink is gone;סָר סָבְאָםthey give themselves wholly to prostitution;הַזְנֵה הִזְנוּher shieldsמָגִנֶּיהָpassionately loveאָהֲבוּ הֵבוּdisgrace.קָלוֹן
A windרוּחַhas wrappedצָרַרherאוֹתָהּin its wings,בִּכְנָפֶיהָand they will be ashamedוְיֵבֹשׁוּof their sacrifices.מִזִּבְחוֹתָם
