But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
At dawn he came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to him, and he sat down and was teaching them.
The scribes and the Pharisees bring a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the middle,
they say to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of committing adultery.
Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?”
They were saying this to test him, so that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus bent down and was writing with his finger on the ground.
And as they kept on asking him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let whoever of you is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
And bending down again, he was writing on the ground.
When they heard it, they went out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and he was left alone, with the woman standing in the middle.
Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on sin no more.”
