And this wasוַיְהִיthe lotהַגּוֹרָלfor the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Manasseh,מְנַשֶּׁהforכִּיheהוּאwasthe firstbornבְּכוֹרof Joseph.יוֹסֵףAs for Machir,לְמָכִירthe firstbornבְּכוֹרof Manasseh,מְנַשֶּׁהthe fatherאֲבִיof Gilead,הַגִּלְעָדbecauseכִּיheהוּאwasהָיָהa manאִישׁof war,מִלְחָמָהhe hadוַיְהִי לוֹGileadהַגִּלְעָדand Bashan.וְהַבָּשָׁן
And the allotment wasוַיְהִיfor the restהַנּוֹתָרִיםof the sonsלִבְנֵיof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהaccording to their families:לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָםfor the sonsלִבְנֵיof Abiezer,אֲבִיעֶזֶרfor the sonsוְלִבְנֵיof Helek,חֵלֶקfor the sonsוְלִבְנֵיof Asriel,אַשְׂרִיאֵלfor the sonsוְלִבְנֵיof Shechem,שֶׁכֶםfor the sonsוְלִבְנֵיof Hepher,חֵפֶרand for the sonsוְלִבְנֵיof Shemida.שְׁמִידָעTheseאֵלֶּהarethe sonsבְּנֵיof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהsonבֶּןof Joseph,יוֹסֵףthe males,הַזְּכָרִיםaccording to their families.לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם
But Zelophehadוְלִצְלָפְחָדsonבֶּןof Hepher,חֵפֶרsonבֶּןof Gilead,גִּלְעָדsonבֶּןof Machir,מָכִירsonבֶּןof Manasseh,מְנַשֶּׁהhadהָיוּ לוֹnoלֹאsons,בָּנִיםbutכִּי אִםdaughters;בָּנוֹתand theseוְאֵלֶּהarethe namesשְׁמוֹתof his daughters:בְּנֹתָיוMahlah,מַחְלָהNoah,וְנֹעָהHoglah,חָגְלָהMilcah,מִלְכָּהand Tirzah.וְתִרְצָה
And they came nearוַתִּקְרַבְנָהbeforeלִפְנֵיEleazarאֶלְעָזָרthe priest,הַכֹּהֵןand beforeוְלִפְנֵיJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבִּןof Nun,נוּןand beforeוְלִפְנֵיthe chiefs,הַנְּשִׂיאִיםsaying,לֵאמֹר“YHWHיְהוָהcommandedצִוָּהMosesמֹשֶׁהto giveלָתֶתusלָנוּan inheritanceנַחֲלָהamongבְּתוֹךְour brothers.”אַחֵינוּSo he gaveוַיִּתֵּןthem,לָהֶםaccording to the commandאֶל פִּיof YHWH,יְהוָהan inheritanceנַחֲלָהamongבְּתוֹךְthe brothersאֲחֵיof their father.אֲבִיהֶן
And tenוַ עֲשָׂרָהallotmentsחַבְלֵיfellיִּפְּלוּto Manasseh,מְנַשֶּׁהbesidesלְבַדthe landמֵאֶרֶץof Gileadהַגִּלְעָדand Bashan,וְהַבָּשָׁןwhichאֲשֶׁרisbeyondמֵעֵבֶרthe Jordan,לַיַּרְדֵּן
becauseכִּיthe daughtersבְּנוֹתof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהreceivedנָחֲלוּan inheritanceנַחֲלָהamongבְּתוֹךְhis sons;בָּנָיוand the landוְאֶרֶץof Gileadהַגִּלְעָדbelongedהָיְתָהto the restלִ הַנּוֹתָרִיםof the sonsבְנֵיof Manasseh.מְנַשֶּׁה
And the borderוַ גְבוּלof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהwentיְהִיfrom Asherמֵאָשֵׁרto Michmethath,הַמִּכְמְתָתwhichאֲשֶׁרiseastעַל פְּנֵיof Shechem;שְׁכֶםand the borderוְ הַגְּבוּלwentהָלַךְtoאֶלthe south,הַיָּמִיןtoאֶלthe inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵיof En-tappuah.עֵין תַּפּוּחַ
The landאֶרֶץof Tappuahתַּפּוּחַbelongedהָיְתָהto Manasseh,לִמְנַשֶּׁהbut Tappuahוְתַפּוּחַonאֶלthe borderגְּבוּלof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהbelongedto the sonsלִבְנֵיof Ephraim.אֶפְרָיִם
And the borderוְ הַגְּבוּלwent downיָרַדto the Brookנַחַלof Kanah,קָנָהsouthנֶגְבָּהof the brook.לַנַּחַלTheseהָאֵלֶּהcitiesעָרִיםbelongedto Ephraimלְאֶפְרַיִםamongבְּתוֹךְthe citiesעָרֵיof Manasseh.מְנַשֶּׁהAnd the borderוּגְבוּלof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהwason the northמִצְּפוֹןof the brook,לַנַּחַלand its endsוַ תֹצְאֹתָיוwereיְהִיat the sea.הַיָּמָּה
The southנֶגְבָּהwasEphraim’sלְאֶפְרַיִםand the northוְצָפוֹנָהManasseh’s,לִמְנַשֶּׁהand the seaוַ הַיָּםwasיְהִיits border;גְּבוּלוֹand they reachedוּ יִפְגְּעוּןAsherבְאָשֵׁרon the northמִצָּפוֹןand Issacharוּבְיִשָּׂשכָרon the east.מִמִּזְרָח
And in Issacharוַ בְּיִשָּׂשכָרand in AsherוּבְאָשֵׁרManassehלִמְנַשֶּׁהhadיְהִיBeth-sheanבֵּית שְׁאָןand its towns,וּבְנוֹתֶיהָand Ibleamוְיִבְלְעָםand its towns,וּבְנוֹתֶיהָandוְthe inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵיof Dorדֹארand its towns,וּבְנוֹתֶיהָand the inhabitantsוְיֹשְׁבֵיof En-dorעֵין דֹּרand its towns,וּבְנֹתֶיהָand the inhabitantsוְיֹשְׁבֵיof Taanachתַעְנַךְand its towns,וּבְנֹתֶיהָand the inhabitantsוְיֹשְׁבֵיof Megiddoמְגִדּוֹand its towns:וּבְנוֹתֶיהָthe threeשְׁלֹשֶׁתheights.הַנָּפֶת
But the sonsוְ בְּנֵיof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהcould notלֹא יָכְלוּdispossessלְהוֹרִישׁthoseהָאֵלֶּהcities,הֶעָרִיםand the Canaaniteוַ הַכְּנַעֲנִיwas determinedיּוֹאֶלto liveלָשֶׁבֶתin thisהַזֹּאתland.בָּאָרֶץ
And whenוַיְהִי כִּיthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלgrew strong,חָזְקוּthey putוַיִּתְּנוּthe Canaaniteהַכְּנַעֲנִיto forced labor,לָמַסbut they did notוְ לֹאdispossess himהוֹרִישׁוֹcompletely.הוֹרֵשׁ
And the sonsוַ בְּנֵיof Josephיוֹסֵףspokeיְדַבְּרוּto Joshua,אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַsaying,לֵאמֹר“Whyמַדּוּעַhave you givenנָתַתָּהmeלִּיas an inheritanceנַחֲלָהoneאֶחָדlotגּוֹרָלand oneוְ אֶחָדallotment,חֶבֶלwhen Iוַאֲנִיama numerousרָבpeople,עַםsinceעַד אֲשֶׁרup to nowעַד כֹּהYHWHיְהוָהhas blessed me?”בֵּרְכַנִי
And Joshuaוַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַsaidיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵיהֶם“Ifאִםyouאַתָּהarea numerousרַבpeople,עַםgo upעֲלֵהto the forestהַיַּעְרָהand clear groundוּבֵרֵאתָfor yourselfלְךָthereשָׁםin the landבְּאֶרֶץof the Perizziteהַפְּרִזִּיand the Rephaim,וְהָרְפָאִיםsinceכִּיthe hill countryהַרof Ephraimאֶפְרָיִםis too narrowאָץfor you.”לְךָ
And the sonsוַ בְּנֵיof Josephיוֹסֵףsaid,יֹּאמְרוּ“The hill countryהָהָרis notלֹאenoughיִמָּצֵאfor us,לָנוּandוְthere areironבַּרְזֶלchariotsרֶכֶבamong allבְּכָלthe Canaaniteהַכְּנַעֲנִיwho liveהַיֹּשֵׁבin the landבְּאֶרֶץof the valley,הָעֵמֶקboth thoseלַאֲשֶׁרin Beth-sheanבְּבֵית שְׁאָןand its townsוּבְנוֹתֶיהָand thoseוְלַאֲשֶׁרin the Valleyבְּעֵמֶקof Jezreel.”יִזְרְעֶאל
And Joshuaוַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַsaidיֹּאמֶרto the houseאֶל בֵּיתof Joseph,יוֹסֵףto Ephraimלְאֶפְרַיִםand to Manasseh,וְלִמְנַשֶּׁהsaying,לֵאמֹר“Youאַתָּהarea numerousרַבpeople,עַםand you haveוְ לָךְgreatגָּדוֹלstrength;כֹחַyou shall notלֹאhaveיִהְיֶה לְךָonly oneאֶחָדlot,גּוֹרָל
butכִּיthe hill countryהַרshall beיִהְיֶהyours;לָּךְforכִּיitהוּאisforest,יַעַרand you will clear it,וּבֵרֵאתוֹand its endsוְ תֹּצְאֹתָיוshall beהָיָהyours;לְךָforכִּיyou will dispossessתוֹרִישׁthe Canaanite,הַכְּנַעֲנִיthoughכִּיhe hasלוֹironבַּרְזֶלchariots,רֶכֶבthoughכִּיheהוּאisstrong.”חָזָק
