The Holy Spirit

7-day plan: The Holy Spirit

Who God's Spirit is, what he promises, and how he works in those who believe

One passage a day, with a question to think it over. Your progress stays on this device, no account needed.

  1. Day 1 · The Spirit in the Old Testament

From the first chapter, God's spirit is already there, hovering over the waters

Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the spirit of Elohim was hovering over the surface of the waters.

How can you treat the people around you today, remembering that every one of them was created in the image of Elohim?

  2. Day 2 · The Father's promise

God promises to pour out his spirit on all flesh: sons, daughters and slaves

And it will happen afterward that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. And even on the male slaves and on the female slaves in those days I will pour out my spirit.

  3. Day 3 · What he does in us

Jesus says being born of the Spirit is like the wind: you hear it, but can't tell where it comes from

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I tell you, unless someone is born of water and Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born from above.’ The wind blows where it wants, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from and where it goes. So it is with everyone who has been born of the Spirit.”

Jesus speaks of those who come to the light and those who prefer darkness (vv. 19-21). What helps you live with more clarity and truth?

  4. Day 4 · The fruit of the Spirit

Walking by the Spirit, and the inner struggle with the desire of the flesh

But I say: walk by the Spirit, and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are opposed to one another, so that you do not do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

  5. Day 5 · Gifts for serving

Many kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit, given for the good of all

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, and the same Lord; and there are varieties of workings, but the same God who works all things in all. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the benefit of all. For to one through the Spirit is given a word of wisdom, and to another a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another workings of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discernment of spirits, to another kinds of tongues, to another interpretation of tongues. But all these things the one and the same Spirit works, distributing to each one individually just as he wills.

God fills Bezalel with his spirit to work in gold, silver and wood

And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, “See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the spirit of Elohim, with wisdom, and with understanding, and with knowledge, and with all kinds of work, to devise designs, to work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze, and in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in all kinds of work.
